Not looking good. GI saying he's not with the team.

It must have just happened. His name is still on the roster.

I've been a big supporter of his, simply because he brought something to the WR room that most of the other players didn't have, he's bigger/more physical. But the fact of the matter is the juice isn't worth the squeeze any more. Time to move on.

So if it’s excused absences for a family issue or something you’d just move on? When I was in college I missed two weeks of school immediately following spring break. Had a death in the immediate family. Maybe Wright has a similar issue? I’ll wait to pass judgment.

Thanks for the heads up, disappointing news if true (no reason to doubt it).

But doesn't this get you kicked out of GI for making this thread? I guess if your username here is different than your usernames there, not sure what they can do.

That’s fair, and we’ll learn with time. Agreed that if there’s extenuating circumstances let’s cut the kid some slack, however, we’d be naive to ignore context when looking ahead (context = his history, status of the roster).

Of course not. Color me just a tad skeptical that's the case here.

Plenty of reliable guys on the roster now that can really play.

Thankfully / Unfortunately not too reliant on Wright anymore.

Yeah, I've heard various rumors about how Wright hasn't necessarily been the best "fit" here, suffice to say it. No need to get into more detail than that, they're rumors anyway.

But here again .... such weird timing.

This makes me think that the staff didn't actually talk to these guys until very recently. Which is just absurd, if true. Let them enroll in spring semester, go through winter workouts, THEN tell them a week or two before spring ball starts that it's not going to work out for them here and they should transfer.

I made that up. I have no idea if that's how it went.

Just saying, IF it did ... that's just wrong of Fleck and the staff.

So if I follow your post.....IF.....Fleck and staff did what you are just completely guessing might have happened (with no clue on what actually went down) then they did the players wrong......got it :)

There really is zero point in getting caught up in when guys enter the portal these days. There could be any one of a million reasons why guys make the decisions when they do.

We could pretty much put this disclaimer on 95% of your posts :)

You are 100% correct.

I'm just sayin. IF the reason all these guys are leaving just now in the last couple weeks is because the staff told them something like "you know, I just don't see you being a significant contributor here this fall, and if you want more playing time we'd be happy to help you find a new team through the portal" ..... why wouldn't you tell them that in early Jan?? Why wait until early March to tell them that??

I'm sorry but do you really think they were blindsided? You can't really believe that right? Tyler, Crooms and Spencer have all been committed for a while as transfers coming in. All three are vets and unlikely to go somewhere they didn't expect to get immediate playing time. In the case of the WR room CRAB is also coming back from injury so that is 3 "new" faces that are likely to be key parts of the rotation next year.

None of us know exactly how things went down but I don't think it would be too hard for Potts, MBS, maybe Wright to see the writing on the wall and to realize they were unlikely to be a major factor on the field this fall.

And of course that is all working under the assumption that the transfers are playing time related...they might not be....we have no clue....all we know as fans is that tons of players transfer these days for any number of reasons.

The only I know for sure, is that none of us know for sure.

However, this says that football players are only actually allowed to enter the portal in Dec-Jan or May: https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ortal-windows-modernizes-infractions-process/

The transfer windows, which will go into effect in time for the 2022-23 season, will allow 60 days per year for athletes to enter the portal and maintain immediate eligibility for first-time transfers. For fall sports like football, the period will be split into two periods. The first, a 45-day period, will start the day after championship selections are made. A second window will be instituted from May 1-15 so players can enter the transfer portal after spring camp.

Now granted that this thread isn't saying anything about Wright entering the portal. It's saying he didn't come back from spring break, which implies he was with the team for winter workouts. That's quite a bit different than MBS and Potts portal announcements.

But I'm assuming he will do so. I'm assuming his original transfer here from TA&M won't count against him because of covid.

To clarify, it sounds like Wright not returning from spring break is a surprise to the staff, not an excused or planned thing. It does not sound like he will be practicing in spring ball when it starts next week.

Furthermore, if he transfers, he likely needs to sit out a year or go down a level to FCS - but obviously that info is not 100% yet.

Wright just strikes me as one of those guys that can't get out of his own way. There is no doubt he has a ton of athletic ability but there always seems to be something going on with him away from the field.

Probably at a point where a change of scenery for him would be best for everyone.

Fair enough, thanks.

Completely different then, than MBS and Potts.

If it was excused they likely would have announced it in some capacity.

How about? They go home for spring break…or just take a break and have time to think about their situation and they come to the conclusion on their own they need a new environment?

I highly doubt that they announce all excused absences from practices. I have never seen a single announcement of the sort--especially Spring ball

Still listed on the roster as of now. Unless something official comes out, I'm assuming he'll be participating in spring ball.

They are usually pretty quick to adjust the roster when guys transfer so agree that if he was gone for sure they probably would have removed him from the roster already.

Guess we will have to see how it all plays out. Good thing is that we should be fine at WR either way with the new guys coming in, younger guys developing, and CRAB returning.

Just FYI, It's feasible he could still be on the roster next week and NOT be practicing in spring ball. Ala Mike Brown-Stephens absence from the team for the bowl game and a month or so surrounding that.

it's life. stuff happens.

I had a co-worker once who took off for the weekend to go golfing with some buddies. He didn't show up for work on Monday, then called the boss and said he wasn't coming back.

people don't always act in a logical or rational manner. and the last time I checked, football players are people, too.
