I do not believe there can be too many topics on this subject. If you disagree, navigate away.

Georgia lost again; looks like Mark Richt will be available. My first choice would be Mike Tice, but apparently he won't work because he lacks the requisite college degree.

Everyone says Brewster is a terrible in-game coach...now you want Mike Tice, did you watch the Vikings under him?

Mike Tice? Yeah, lets get another professional coach in here.

Best option: Give Jim Harbaugh an open checkbook.

Jim Harbaugh can have his pick of college jobs or could jump to the NFL as a head coach after this season....but yeah, the head coaching job at Minnesota would be a dream come true.

Shouldn't you be on your hands and knees begging Mase to come back?

We need a successful mid-major coach to come in here. Somebody that is used to recruiting and getting beat out by the big boys, then getting the less coveted players, but making them compete at a high level.

Yeah- Tice went 9-7 with half the payroll that Chilly has. Chilly couldn't even get there until Favre got here.

Harbaugh is not coming here. Stanford is 4-0 and will do whatever they have to do to keep him.

No chance Harbaugh leaves Stanford to come here. Jon Gruden would be my first choice, $3 million per year might be enough to get his attention.

Gruden is an interesting choice but seems to me he would hold out for another NFL gig? I personally do not understand folks who are opposed to a guy from the pro game like Tice or Gruden. Ferentz came from the pros...

Not saying Harbaugh will/would come here because I personally think there is no way. But he will be going somewhere. It's been shown several times that Stanford doesn't have what it takes to hold onto an up and coming coach.

Gruden would be a great choice in my opinion. He's great with the media, would provide us more national exposure, and could probably recruit as good as anyone...what high school kid wouldn't want to play for a Super Bowl Champion? I'm willing to bet that he was entertained NFL head coaching positions this past off season, if so, he clearly passed on them. I don't think it's out of the realm of a possiblilty that he wouldn't consider a highly paid college head coaching position. Let alone at a school in the Big Ten, in a brand new football stadium, in a major metropolitan area with a large sports market.

If you guys are going to realistically think that Gruden will come here...

I'll see your Gruden and raise you a Bill Cowher.

(I don't think either guy would even consider us, but I've been wrong before)

Yeah Baby, now we are talking!

The last 2 weeks in his weekly Monday chat somebody has asked Tom Dienhart on Rivals who the Gophers could hire if they made a coaching change.

Last week he said:

Bowling Green's Dave Clawson
Nebraska OC Shawn Watson (was HC at Southern Illinois)
Illinois State's Brock Spack
Ex-BC coach Jeff Jagodzinski

I think Temple's Al Golden, Air Force's Troy Calhoun and Houston's Kevin Sumlin would politely decline.

More later.

Week before that he said this:

I think Minny has to hire a PROVEN head coach this time.

Here is who I would have on my list:

Al Golden
Dave Christensen
Todd Graham
Kevin Sumlin (he was an assistant there)
Troy Calhoun
Rick Stockstill
Larry Fedora

gruden would also be my choice. he has a ton of fire and nobody would transfer if he was named the future coach. I have to believe he could be a beast of a recruiter. and he can coach defense! something we haven't seen since the 1999 penn st game! I think we throw out as much money as it takes to get him. we can hire a mid major guy or a good d1aa but if this season gets worse we need a sure thing to keep the stadium full and I think gruden could do that!

Bowling Green's Dave Clawson - I don't like the Clawfense.
Nebraska OC Shawn Watson (was HC at Southern Illinois) - maybe
Illinois State's Brock Spack - maybe
Ex-BC coach Jeff Jagodzinski - no f'n way. That guy is a disaster. He's done nothing and got fired for a reason.

Richt may be on the hot seat right now, but they have 4 games in a row that they "should" win. After that, they'll have Florida & A.J. Green will be well back to playing. We'll have a good idea about Richt's "availability" in the next 4 weeks, I'm guessing. And I've advocated him from the start. But if I was in charge, I'd start putting my list of candidates that didn't include his name, just to be safe. BCS coordinators or head coaches at just below BCS level or would possibly move up, amongst the other names.

He's going to give up the hour long specials that ESPN gives him, any college job he wants or a return as an NFL head coach to lead the Golden Gophers?

I have no problems with Gruden (I can't believe his eyes aren't brown from all the BS he tosses about). He knows his stuff and would be a dynamic hire. However, I place him a close second behind Tony Dungy in the pipe-dream sweepstakes.

Chilly got there with Jackson if you recall. Everyone says he is not an elite coach so he won't take us to the superbowl. Who cares if he is not elite because he almost got us there last year and we probably would have won if we had if it weren't for a few missed calls and a couple of petersons fumbles.

big time coaches have big time egos. let's say gruden is hired and completely turns this program around, wins rose bowls, maybe someday wins a national title....at that point would gruden be remembered as the greatest coach who ever lived? maybe, for sure top 10. yes I'm dreaming but money and legacy is something that could sell the job! the guy that turns this around will be a legend not only here but nationally!

again its a pipe dream, but the answer is always no unless we ask!

As a Texas fan, I beg you... please please please offer the head coaching job to Greg Davis. Please?

As far as pipe-dreams, how about Gary Patterson (TCU)?

Well, the rumor is that GP turned the U down last time so I'm not sure if they'd go back to him again.

They could pimp the new stadium/lockerroom and offer him a ton of cash. Literally. Offer him 2,000 pounds of various bills.

But like I said, it's a pipe-dream. I'd be very surprised to see him leave the program he's built.

I didn't know they'd offered him the job before. Interesting.

Josh Heupel! He was mentioned a few times as offesive coordinator candidate... Aberdeen native.... Assistant Coach and Quarterback coach with Oklahoma....

Have the Gophers ever produced a head coaching candidate in recent memory beside Bud Grant, Tony Dungy, DeWayne Walker? You'd figure we could produce an alum who wants to live and coach here, is anyone out there as a coordinator? Don't mention the arena league coach.
