Gymnastics 2022-23 Season

Mya Hooten Floor 9.900 || Best of Minnesota Meet || January 6, 2023

Gophers in Utah representing Minnesota.

UCLA at the meet will be a Big Ten competitor starting 2024.

Again we ran into the same issue we had last year, the dreaded beam. Respectable scores on the FX and Bars. Vault which is usually one of our better rotations, had some missteps tonight.

Freshman Seria Johnson named Big Ten Freshman of the Week!

"The Woodstock, Ga. native finished the meet with an all-around score of 39.350 in her first all-around performance. In her very first collegiate appearance on floor, she recorded a score of 9.900, placing her in a tie for sixth place just behind Olympic Medalist Jordan Chiles of UCLA."

Freshman Seria Johnson's floor debut last week that won her Big Ten Freshman of the Week!

A bright future ahead for Johnson and the Minnesota Gophers gymnastics program.

A 9.925 from Mya Hooten! Look at that landing. Wow.

What a shot. An award should go to that photographer too!

I knew what was gonna happen on beam that was why I switched over to NFL playoffs. A 48.3 on beam.

The Achilles heal of this team, as you explained. They need one more athlete with a strong score there, it appears.

Some consider that event the toughest.

Lots of highlights to watch on Twitter. This team is loaded with talent!

Probably would be a great ticket to see in person!

Mya Hooten scoring a perfect 10 last year!

A 196.875 is good enough to beat B1G opponents, but you need to consistently score 197 or higher if you wanna compete on the national stage. With Michigan coming up, that meet will be a good measuring stick of this team's potential.

As you pointed out, they are weak on the beam. One player today fell off. I felt bad because she's a talent. Another player wobbled.

I was impressed by the uneven parallel bars event, the way they precisely fly from one to another. I've never seen that in person before.

I was there and enjoyed watching it. Great crowd there, too.

Michigan's lowest score was a 49.250 and they also had 2 scores higher than 49.600, you ain't losing a lot of meets with those numbers. Proud of the way the Gophers battled, first meet all season they scored 49.000 or higher in every rotation.

Gophers set a season team score record. Great job by both teams. Michigan is top elite. Great job bringing the scores close. Looking at the university history, Minnesota Gymnastics is doing historically well.
