per Chris:

Singer-songwriter-guitarist David Crosby, a founding member of two popular and enormously influential ’60s rock units, the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash (later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), has died. He was 81 years old.

His wife released a statement to Variety, writing, “It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”

Amazing musician and lived much longer then anticipated.

Saw him with Crosby, Stills and Nash in 2012 back when they came to Minneapolis to play at the Orpheum. They were bad for the first few songs. Nobody was in good voice and the harmonies were awful. Then they huddled at the back of the stage. Stills seemed to be chewing someone out.

They resumed playing and the voices and harmonies were back.

Hope that at least some of the feuds he had with the remaining members of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, were laid to rest before he died.

R.I.P. Mr.Crosby

RIP. Really a bummer.

With Jason Isbell, Wooden Ships.

Lookin forward to hearing the record guy on the bumper show. Ode to a dead guy …so irreverent. It’s like Dan doesn’t know he is old.

Seems like C was on good terms with S at least, and N had some kind words. Can't find anything from Y, yet.

When I saw the Harvest Time documentary (shot 50 yrs ago but just released last month) it was heartwarming to see him pop up on the screen, lending back up vocals on Alabama.

That would be good. Though at least back in July Crosby and Nash said that they were done with each other. Young wrote Crosby off when Crosby said some pretty terrible things about his wife Daryl Hannah back in 2018.

I saw them at the X about a decade earlier. By far the best arena show I've ever attended. Locked-in in everyway. Perhaps my unexpected favorite was their organist who killed on some extended organ solos.

A guy sitting near kept yelling "play Wooden Ships!" and then would sing "four dead in Ohio". A recurring chuckle of mine. Like...did he know those were two different songs? Were those the only two CSN(Y) references he knew?

Neil Young weighs in. Turns out they stopped speaking in 2014. Here he speaks about the early days.

"We had so many great times, especially in the early years. Crosby was a very supportive friend in my early life, as we bit off big pieces of our experience together. David was the catalyst of many things," Young said. "'Almost Cut My Hair' and 'Deja Vu,' and so many other great songs he wrote were wonderful to jam on, and [Stephen] Stills and I had a blast as he kept going on and on. His singing with Graham [Nash] was memorable, their duo spot a highlight of so many of our shows."

I'm a huge fan of that whole Southern California time period: The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, etc.. Crosby was there from the beginning. RIP!

I was talking to my Timberwolves buddy last night about Crosby. He basically said, "F-David Crosby, guy was a dick."
I never understood why people get so bent out of shape when a famous person, especially a rock star, is/was known to be a jerk. Who cares? Unless they did something to you personally or were a murderer, etc. why would it matter?

Right? CSN(Y) is one of my favorite bands from the era. And this thread is the first I've heard Crosby was a jerk. Just never interested in their personal lives I guess.

This is also the first I'm hearing that Neil Young is married to Darryl Hannah. WHAT?! Good for ol' Neil I guess, but...mismatch!

Crosby was always a jerk according to almost everyone that worked with him. Neil (known to be a bit of a jerk as well) Stills and Nash all stopped talking to him many times over the years (until a tour was needed).

I like my rock stars damaged to some degree.

The whole Darryl Hannah thing is what made Neil break off communication with Crosby the last time.

I caught the very tail end of the show. Had no idea Crosby had died or that Oak was on the show.
All I heard was, "despite him being disliked by former band members...." I knew it was about Crosby.

The entire Young/Stills dynamic is interesting, with Neil getting out just before they went big with Buffalo Springfield only to get back together with CSN&Y just a few years later. Through it all, just amazing music.

All of CSN&Y at one time or another have been jerks to each other.

Crosby seemed to be angry and a jerk throughout his career. Then he removed his music from Spotify, with the Joe Rogan controversy, and put it back on after a short time, that just added to this reputation. IMHO

All of the CSNY guys did. They all backtracked pretty quickly as well. Wonder why...

I know I saw CSN in concert in the Twin Cities, but I can't remember what year it was. after checking some tour dates, I think it was the October 1977 show.

Imma gonna head out to a bar in Navarre and see if Ray Davies is doing alright.

At a time when so many people choose to like sports figures or entertainers based on whether they agree with them politically or not it isn't surprising that there are people who can't separate their musicians off stage behavior from their work.

This checks out, he was a notoriously sh!tty person who also allegedly slept with a 15 year old kid.

So yeah, he pretty much checks all the boxes. You didn't have to tell me he was fangirling over Greta and hate tweeting Republicans on his death bed. I could tell by the everything about him.

Why? Jealousy? Darryl Hannah is one of the few celebrities that truly seems out of my league. :)
