STrib: Gophers men's basketball on pace for lowest attendance in five decades; average tickets scanned is 3,313

This team is so painful right now you could make every ticket 5 dollars and you still wouldn’t sell out

This team isn’t worth 3 hours of most people’s time.
I live in Hennepin county but just barely. I’m 30 minutes from Williams. So if it’s an 11am game I need to leave around 10 to be in my seat for tip-off. And that’s hustling from the 4th street ramp and assuming ticket lines are short-ish.

Game ends at 1pm. I’m home around 2pm. 4 hours of a Saturday is a lot to watch this product.

Now—8pm games? Not a chance im doing this consistently anymore.

I was a season ticket holder and use to make every game. Life changed. But the team just doesn’t interest me really and the game day experience is awful

Just wait a bit, for those of us out of state they of course want us to sign up for BTN, then to pay yet even more for garbage games on BTN+, in near future Hockey, Football and Basketball will all be pay per view with only minor sports on BTN. May be we should boycott to send a message, say no to BTN+ before it's too late (well it is too late for this lost "season".
This is about as incorrect as possible.

Mnjay Edgar Hoover has been notified. Get your affairs in order.

Back to the subject, 3,313 is abysmally low. I remember when there was a waiting list.

This is what I just can't get out of my head. Holy shit, how this is even possible. For a B1G conference game in Williams Arena. It was still a great ticket after the death sentence, during the Monson years, the absolute bottom of the program (or so we thought I guess).

That number is literally unconscionable

When you hire clock watchin check cashin bums this is what you get. It is no different in business where you fly out to nj because the new office has almost no sales in comparison to the closest office. You listen, document and then fly back to mn to report ‘fire everyone’

It’s all part of the plan for success, the worse it gets the more successful the plan is.

I feel like I have a nonzero hearing loss from those days.

I couldn't care less if so-called 'scanned' tickets are 3300 or 5000. Our attendance isn't much different than at other times.

In fact, I've been suggesting (about to turn to urging soon) that you guys NOT attend or watch the games. This board is unreadable with all the whining & trash-talking. And trolling from fans of other teams. Only a small handful of you realize that we're in rebuild mode. With freshmen & recruiting.

I take it that you are NOT a season ticket holder. I am. It's not a little different. It's a lot different.

Everyone knows we are in rebuild mode. Everyone. 4-20 in our last 24 Big Ten games is about as down to the studs as a rebuild gets.

The board will be a lot more readable when you start bumping posts because we win. We'll all be happy!

I understand that this board is therapeutic for venting. But it should be directed at our administration. And it should be calling for Musselman (who was practically begging to come here and who's buyout is nothing) if our rebuild fails. Stuff like that.

But as always...all the blame is falsely being put on the coach. After each loss, pages & pages of disparaging remarks about the coach go up...and I can't read all that crap.

I think a whole lot of the complainers here, (me for one) likes Ben, thinks he will be a fine coach someday, likes his recruiting (other than roster construction) and thinks that Ben was put in a really tough situation by the administration because he is a rookie in the toughest league there is coaching a lower division team. It's not personal, for me, on Ben. I have met him and I like him.

It's a tough situation and I hope he succeeds. Our administration? It stinks. The fish rots from the head.

Agreed. I don’t care if no one shows up and we lose every game til 2030.

The demographics of those 8500 is really old. We have done very little to build a new younger fan base since '97. It will take some sustained success to do so. I hope Ben can do it. The window is short.
This a 1000%. Many years ago you used to see families at the games all the time when there were reasonably priced tickets in certain parts of the building. How do u create new fans by getting fun experiences with your kids. They do become adults. I know it’s hard to believe. That is how I became a fan my dad took us as kids. Cheap tickets up by the roof.

A family can no longer afford to go. Go with buddies instead.

Free agency has also will have a big impact on fans. Very few people enjoy this part of it. Good chance half the roster does not come back.

Coyle think he was hiring for a MIAC school?

No this actually very true. When the new teams are added and moved to Fox less games on TV. I wanna watch buy BTN+. Somebody hasn’t done his homework
LOL. You think they’ll stop showing football, basketball and hockey on BTN and show minor sports instead? Because that is what I was responding to.

I think it’s time you step away for awhile. If you can’t handle people being upset with loss after loss then you should step away from GH until next year.

This is reason #1 by a mile.
If we're talking hours of time then there is almost no entertainment or sporting event worth your time and the higher the ticket cost, the lower the benefit actually is.
For instance, going to see Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks is an absolute waste of money for the time you spend and the inability to speak to your neighbor...well...that isn't going to happen. Moreso, the music is regurgitated from 40 years ago.
So the #1 reason to not go is actually increased by higher ticket prices.
After the snowfall we just received and the temps being perfect for sking and other outdoor activities, it's a good bet people went outside to enjoy the weather.

Welcome to the Joey King era...

I have season tickets (group of 4). If anyone cancels it is because they just don't care enough to move things around and make it. I know the same is true for the people sitting around me as well. Apathy for a losing team. Ticket price is for sure a thing for non-season ticket holders but it isn't for those who already paid.

You are not bright. Like not even just a little bit. You are flat out wrong in this case.

You're describing a simple cost-benefit analysis.
That's on you as to whether the benefit outweighs the cost. No sense complaining to anyone except yourself.
