Teams vs Expectations

Being absent all these lists tells me this:

Despite many gopher fans thinking we were contenders (including myself)

What we really are this year was a team predicted to have between 6-10 wins that’s going to have between 6-10 wins
I think that's probably right.

No one expected the Gophers to be world beaters this year, they just set themselves up so nicely after 4 games it was hard not to dream. Now we are throwing our 40 years of disappointment in MN sports toward Fleck for losing the 3rd game out of 4 against Iowa where his players played better but still lost. Fleck has the team right where most of us thought he would when he got here - yearly contenders against the best in the West. He just hasn't taken that next level leap, where we are the best in the West. Covid and NIL slowed his momentum. Hope we can reclaim some against the Badgers, bowl game and 2024 recruiting.

I think a six win season for Nebby was unreasonable from the start...

Yup. For the second year in a row I made a little money betting under 7.5 wins for them. 6...I guess I could've seen it actually. But 8...no chance.

Sitting at a 2-3 record against a very mediocre (a.k.a. putrid) West this year? That's below expectations. There is no arguing that.

Whose?
Yours? Yes
Mine? Yes
Societies? Hell no

I don't know about that. They have three wins and were expected to beat Georgia Southern and Northwestern. And winning one of Illinois, Purdue, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota wouldn't have been a surprise at the beginning of the season.

I don’t care what the national media thinks because there was a feeling of positivity because of the easy schedule and returning players. To now say that our record is okay is bailing out a coach who still has to prove he is no more than mediocre.

What if you already said it at the beginning of the year? Is it fine then

With the exception of 19 and even that they lost to Iowa and got smoked my Wisconsin at home, this team is a super average big ten team. Just because folks were ready to take on bama after beating up on 4 crappy teams means nothing. Like others have said how they were looked at nationally is basically spot on. Maybe people they played thought they were the weak spot on the schedule. As far as the schedule goes Iowa and Wisconsin were down but Purdue and Illinois better that expected so it’s about a wash. And again you can’t put this on pj completely.

NIL I can agree with but MN lost two OT games in 2020. If we win those and had been 5-2 instead of 3-4 everyone around here would never mention it as a lost season
