Gophers v Penn State 10 & 11 November 2022

PSU is a decent team but I look for a sweep on home ice here.

I never played hockey so I'm not a genius when it comes to hockey analysis... but is Thomas offering much help on the blue line? Stats say no and I also haven't seen anything from him that's blown me away. Would like to hear thoughts from people that know the game better than I do.

IMO Thomas shows a lot of flashes of why he is a fairly highly regarded prospect, but he definitely has some ugly moments. I think he will turn into a pretty reliable D man by the end of the season.

I think by the end of the season Mittelstadt will emerge as the sixth D and Thomas, while still suiting up most of the time, will get less ice time to allow more standard D pairings in big games.

If you want to build buzz for hockey on here add the game times and info if you start a thread.
Game 1: Tonight at 7pm, Bally Sports (aka FSN)
Game 2: Tomorrow at 7pm, Bally Sports Extra (aka FSN+)

Agreed with this. Faber, Chesley, Lacombe, Johnson, Koster all locks. Mittelstadt has been a pleasant surprise and Thomas a serviceable 7th D. Staudacher in case of emergency.

Not that I want us to become Mankato, but with the expected departures on the blue line after this year, using Staudacher's extra year of eligibility next year would be nice.

Would imagine he’s getting seasoning to help with next year as well as if/when guys miss time. He’ll be fine. Flashes are there but clearly is a learning curve

A lot of the people pining for Staudacher are forgetting that while he is a solid d man, he was plenty prone to turnovers and taking bad penalties. It's not like Thomas is seeing ice time over Jordan Leopold here.

Another disappointing loss. This time on home ice. Not that talented of a roster to win games against decent teams without showing up for 60 minutes.

I would usually be pissed but it's so typical for this program to crap the bed in at least like five games a year. Pathetic effort.

Their inability to string pressure together is an issue. It’s just throw the puck in skate around and then go retrieve the puck from your end. I know the top line is great but you might have to go back to the way the year started and split up Knies just to jump start another line.

That's the problem when you lose Cruikshank, Lucius, Lucius, and Broz.

The Gophers were flummoxed by the the PSU pressure in the first period. But it was the five quickly developing two-on-ones that put us behind three goal eight ball.

Special teams need work. To give up a odd man rush with 5 seconds left after a power play expires is inexcusable. I thought they would have learned their lesson at Ohio State giving up 2 short handed breakaways, but that is obviously not the case.

Think it was a poor decision for the d-man to pinch there instead of retreat. I didn't hear anything on TV, was Close banging the stick at the end of the penalty? If not, mental lapse on his part.

With the defense that is back there should be no mental breakdowns. There was also little back pressure so the luck handler could skate all the way along the boards and then cut all the way across the ice to wait out Close. Where the hell were the other 4 guys on the ice.

Woke up this morning and found out that they lost last night. I mean it's still early in the season, but my god if this is the path we're going down.

Generally speaking I'd rather not see a defenseman defending on his belly.

This is the season in a nutshell. Miss the net and the picks instantly out of the net and you give up a goal.

Not thrilled with the play this weekend but I guess a split against a good not great team is not the end of the world. We should probably calm down with the panic about how this season is going. We had a way worse start to last year and made the frozen four.

Also LOL at the idea that we miss Brinkman on this team.

"Way worse start" last year...

7-5 last year
8-4 this year

The team with the most talent in the country is coming to town.

Tougher schedule this year. We absolutely should be better than 8-4, but none of our losses are terrible losses.
