Commitment! Darius Taylor

They will have:

Potts
Bryce Williams (technically has another year if he wants to come back)
Evans (likely a redshirt frosh)
Taylor (true frosh)
Marquese Williams (true frosh)
Jordan Nubin (walk-on getting carries this year)
Max Grand (walk-on getting carries this year)

I'd say whether you take a transfer depends on whether Bryce Williams returns, but that's an awful lot of young talent getting bumped down if you take a transfer. Given what happened with Ky and Bucky, any transfer would have to be a one-year only guy, IMO
Ky Thomas is playing every game in Kansas with a few carries. He is averaging about 2 yards per carry. Makes me thing that our offensive line needs to get a lot of credit for how incredibly well our running backs do here. If I were a recruit, I'd head to Minnesota.

Yeah....I'm not sure how people think we'll have a hole at running back after this year. Seems like we've had nothing but depth at the position.
No one said we’d have a hole, just thought experienced depth could be in question when we will only have Potts, Bryce and a redshirt frosh and 2 true frosh. Five scholarship rbs isn’t a lot. Last year we started with six with Irving being a true frosh. Probably can get by with what we have, but I wouldn’t mind adding an experienced transfer portal guy if the right prospect comes up.

I mean....somebody will step up to split carries with Potts. Zach Evans could very much be that guy. I just don't like the idea of recruiting one year rentals at a position that we have depth. Irving and Thomas showed that you don't need a ton of experience to be successful. Just thinking that if we want to keep bringing in higher rated backs....and not lose them to the transfer portal....then transfer guys doesn't seem like the right route.

I get what you are saying but I wouldn't really use last year as an example because that was the exception far more than the rule.

Possible that in 2023, with Athan at QB, we rely a bit less in the run and inch more in the direction of run-pass balance (55/45?). If so, 5 scholarship backs, plus LeCaptain, Nubin and recent W/Os are plenty.

I don’t think we can call it a position of depth at this point. If we assume the two commits and Evans are like on the level of Irving and Ky Thomas, then yeah we have great depth. Not sure we can assume that though, Irving was a four star kid after all. I personally am kind of assuming those three will be a pretty solid group.

Darius on a visit last night at Michigan:

Go Gophers!!

If he's gone, don't be surprised if NIL has something to do with it.
Every recruit that is lost (and he isn't yet) is for a multitude of reasons. NIL obviously is a factor nowadays, but kids can make money anywhere, from anyone with NIL. National brands pay kids to simply send out a tweet. I highly doubt NIL was a factor in a Michigan HS kid going to Michigan vs Michigan State game free of charge.

He didn't tweet anything about it. Wonder if he just rode along with a buddy to the game or if he was actually doing a game day invite. Did he really want this out there?

As the World Turns....

If I was 17 and got free tickets to the MSU/Michigan game a few miles from my house and probably a bunch of other stuff I would go.

Unclear if he has a solid offer from them or interest in de-committing.
Yeah, need to be careful about reading too much into it for sure. He doesn't appear to have a Michigan offer according to 247 and they already have 2 RBs in their current class.

He has had an MSU offer for a while so if he was interested in going there he wouldn't have committed to us.

Him simply being at the game with a bunch of other recruits doesn't mean he is gone.

He wanted this out there enough to RT it.

I don't mind getting transfer guys as depth, but not as a featured back. Unless of course you can find a star.

On one hand I wouldn't read too much into the RT. People do that for all kinds of things, sometimes just out of habit. But just the fact alone that he was there is more what I'd be concerned about.

I don’t feel safe until the 1000% committed tweet comes. 100 to 110 is a sinking boat commitment
