Scott Frost FIRED & Updates on Nebraska Coaching Search Thread

Why would Campbell move to that dumpster fire? He is already paid well and is basically a King at Ames right now. Why make a lateral move to try and restore a program with unreasonable expectations? Not worth the headache.

Trev will pay a man millions he hasn’t earned, and after torpedoing a program…seems like he wants to be known as a “good boss”. Sometimes it’s the little things.

Plus he's already at a place that can beat iowa.

My wild guess is that Nebraska fans want a big hire. Like an Urban Meyer, or perhaps an SEC assistant like Kirby Smart was when Georgia hired him.

Someone who will clearly lead them back to the national title post-haste.

Tracey Claeys! He is rested and ready to go. That would literally be a big hire!

It’s not a lateral move, it’s a step up.

But why would he go there
44-34 at Iowa state with zero 10 win seasons in 6 years gets you the Nebraska job.
44-34 at Nebraska with zero 10 win seasons gets you on the hot seat.

But why would he go there because at some point jobs much easier to win at then Nebraska open up and he will be a candidate if he keeps putting up 7-9 wins at Iowa state.
I would think he would be a candidate for a bunch of jobs easier to win at than Nebraska.

The Scott Frost era at Nebraska is an excellent demonstration of how much easier it is to have an undefeated season in a G5 conference than it is to achieve a .500 in the Big Ten.
Especially when you have the best talent in the G5 conference

I think he'd be crazy to take that job, when he has it so good (relatively) at Iowa State and can potentially wait for better offers.

Would give the same advice to Kliemann.
This is why I actually think the most realistic good candidates are Lance Leopold or Gary Patterson

Kliemann can wait for another offer.
As can Campbell. I think Kliemannwould be more likely to take it than Campbell

I don't know who at a tier higher would want to hire Kliemann or Campbell. They are great fundamental coaches who do more with less but do not have the recruiting reputation that the next tier of school desire. I say that acknowledging that Alberts said he wanted someone strong in fundamentals, though I assume he know's he needs someone who can recruit and leverage Nebraska's NLI program.

I think they should poach Dave Doeren from NC State. ACC can't compete with B1G in terms of money and it would be a great payday for Doeren. My dark horse would be Ryan Walters from Illinois -- though you probably don't want to go with no HC experience when you were just burned by a guy who didn't know how to manage a program.

They should go with someone know who’s that defense and OL are important in the big ten

Quality O- and D-lines were Nebraska's calling card back in the day. I'm trying to think when that started to erode. They've recruited the O-line unit fairly well in terms of star rankings, but it hasn't translated to the playing field.

Nebraska Football: Ugly accusations surface after Scott Frost’s departure

What is currently happening around the Nebraska football program is a tale that is, unfortunately, as old as time. Especially when the larger story is one of rot inside an organization or in this case, a college football team.

Now that Scott Frost is officially in the Nebraska football program’s rearview mirror, certain people around the program and even in Nebraska media are starting to spill little secrets here and there. These particular stories paint a quite different picture than the one the general public heard about the Golden Boy’s regime over the last 4+ years.

Certainly, the internet is always going to be full of rumors and innuendo. Some of those rumors were even going to be born in an ounce of truth. Some are full on, 100 percent accurate. And still others are entirely false, put out there by people who want to be seen as having some “inside scoop.”

Unless someone is extremely tied into the Nebraska football program, it can be hard to tell what’s true, what’s sour grapes and what is just people trying to look bigger and more important than they are.

Having said that, there’s a reason the saying “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” is such a popular one. It’s a truism of course. And when it comes to the things that have started seeping out about the Nebraska football program under Scott Frost, it seems as if the narrative pushed by far too many in the local media; that Scott Frost worked harder and longer and wanted success more than anyone else in the state, was not entirely true.

The whispers have been there before, they’ve been there since the beginning. But during a Sunday interview that just exploded on Tuesday afternoon, one local sports radio talk show host came close to blowing the lid off the house of cards that was Frost’s reputation.

Mike’l Severe appeared on the Hurrdat Sports video podcast on Sunday, not long after Nebraska announced it had parted ways with its head coach. During a long conversation mostly focused on who Severe thought should be the next head coach (spoiler: Matt Campbell), the radio host launched into a lengthy diatribe about why Frost was fired.

“Just know this, it’s not about the losses, or the lack of wins; you can call it that. There so much … if someone wanted to write a book about this tenure … first of all it would allow Trev (Alberts) to walk away and go, ‘this is why.'”
Severe then detailed things that he said the Cornhuskers Athletic Director couldn’t talk about but were very clearly major contributing factors to why the former Huskers coach was fired just three games into the season and just a few weeks before his buyout would have been greatly reduced.

“He can’t talk about his head coach showing up late to practice every day,” Severe continued. “He can’t talk about his head coach not making recruiting phone calls.” The radio host also made it clear that now that the regime change has officially happened, he’s freer to talk about these things.

“There’s a whole bunch of stuff …” he added. “It was a mess up there.” He then dropped one of the bigger bombshells of the entire appearance and one that really should have raised red flags. To the point where it’s a surprise things were indeed kept so quiet around the Nebraska football program.

“You had assistant coaches going to the athletic department, the AD and saying ‘hey, this is happening, help us.’ That should no happen, you should not have to have your assistant coaches complaining about your head coach because he’s not doing what he’s supposed to be doing.”

Be curious to know what Kliemann’s dream job would be. He’s from Northern Iowa (Waterloo) and played then coached at UNI for a while, so maybe Hawks? Or maybe they are not big fans of Iowa up there?

He’s 54 and making $3.5M at K-State. So maybe he’s content.

I suppose the 3 weeks are important if they are seriously looking at the interim coach to really take over...he would be cheap and pretty sure that Alberts had a hand in hiring him so he may Trev's guy all along...

Yeah. Really depends on what you think of life style. K state is a pretty decent job. I wouldn’t want to live there though. Maybe he wants to be the next Iowa coach, ok state coach, Missouri coach, etc

It’s a good enough job where I wouldn’t be shocked if he ended his career there even if successful

Check out their rivals board, they want Urban BIG TIME. And of course, the sensible people who say "no way he's coming" get roasted by the nut job fans.

Scott Frost's body language and manner of dress in last year's Trev Albert presser about the NCAA investigation are very telling.

I'm pretty sure Brian has the Iowa job on lock down.

Also prior to this season, it was reported that Trev Albert told Frost to stay clear of calling plays for both offense and defense. Not many big egos can take that kind of neutering.

Trev: "Scott, don't worry about play calling. We got it handled."
Scott: "But, but, Trevie!!!!"
Trev: "OK, you can call kickoffs"
Scott: "Thanks Trevie, I won't let you down. I promise. I have a play call that'll beat Northwestern. They won't know what hit 'em. Trust me."

But remember, Fleck is the bad guy.
Not sure anything said there makes Frost a “bad guy”. Certainly a slacker and poor coach, but bad guy?

I hadn’t heard any of this before but as I was reading it all I could think of was likely a drinking problem. Then I read the Reddit link. If true, makes sense why Nebby needed to distance themselves ASAP. Like a ticking time bomb. Good riddance.

Mike'l ... who?

Clickbait gossip.

Actually, from the comments on the Nebraska rivals board, he's pretty respected. Here's one poster, "Severe is the best around. He needs his own drive time show.". That post got 15 likes, and there is a whole 8 page thread about what Mike'l said.
Getting clicks and views is the job.

When the Neb coach gets fired like this, all kinds of BS is going to get thrown out, because people want/need something to believe. It's their (media) job to give people something to talk about and/or address what people are talking about.

I dismiss it as nothing more than that. And I don't even like Frost.

Lots of stories coming out about him but was really making fun of all the Nebraska fans that act like Fleck is some kind of horrible person.
