I saw that Kristian Williams from Memphis in HS transferred from Oregon to Missouri. The name rang a bell because he looked like he was going to MN and as I remembered pretty highly rated. When I looked back at his HS profile, I see that he was aBove a .8800 and there were 21 guys rated above a .8700 from the State of Tennessee in 2019. I wanted to see how many of these guys were a success for their team. If they transferred away and/or did not get to be a key contributor by their 3 rd year, I would consider it a failure.

1. .9432 went to LSU, quit football to concentrate on baseball and is now transferring Fail
2. .9412 went to SC transferred to Purdue FAIL
3. .9412 went to Oregon WR never caught a pass in 3 years. FAIL
4. .9326 went to Georgia 3 years , 13 games and 2 solo tackles FAIL
5. .9244 went to Tennessee 2 years, transferred to Oklahoma good potential and production but Fail due to transfer
6. .9225 Oklahoma multi year starter Success.
7. .9129 Arkansas became a starter third year. Success
8. .9124 Tennessee became a rotation guy on the OL Success?
9. .8986 South Carolina. Still in transfer portal. FAIL
10. .8962 transferred from Clemson to Vandy FAIL
11. .8941 Georgia, not a starter but significant snaps for best D in US. Success
12. .8906 Miss State transfer portal still FAIL
13. KWilliams .8897Oregon transfer to Mizzou FAIL
14. .8870. Georgia transfer portal still FAIL
15. .8850 Nebraska to Tennessee FAIL

i got bored of it, but only 20% of the low 4 star and high 3 stars had any success for the school that signed them out of HS. If someone else wants to, they could look at the same 2019 TN high schoolers and see the success of the .8300 and .8500 guys. I can’t imagine the success would be much less.

I live in TN obviously.. what made you choose that state.... Just from Williams ??

Yes. I was trying to remember how highly he was rated. I looked it up and saw how little he played in Oregon and with all of the talk about high and low 3 stars, I looked at the other highly rated guys and how they did. Is signing Moss by the Gophers that much different than signing Monroe? I don’t know, but feel like recruiting is more of an art than a science. Some are better at finding fits. I would still rather get higher rated 4/5 stars, but some coaches can do well with mostly mid range 3 stars.

So much for the "predictive" religious cult.

There might be cases where the high rating actually contributes to lack of success. This would be in a kid who thinks he doesn't need to work as hard as teammates because he sees himself "already good". Or he might not accept coaching well because he has already been anointed.

I often wonder if some of that was not in play with Dunlap.
