All Things 2021-2022 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Actually, he is.

We have Vando out their starting, no one guards him. He's too small.

DLO sucks balls and always will.

Beverly is not really an offensive threat.

Yet we can play.

We are the weakest and littlest team in the league, yet we can compete. I'd say that's on Finch.
Can't say that his four corners offensive is very good. There's almost no cutting in his offensive. Inexcusable

Looks like we are the city of losers tonight.

EDIT: I stand corrected! Way to go, Twins!

Anyone else wondering where the T-Wolves would be had they stayed put at #10 in the draft and picked Brandon Clarke rather than moving up to select Culver? I seem to recall prior to the draft a lot of buzz surrounding Clarke as a possible pick.
Yes considering Culver was just trash in the championship game you knew he was gonna be a twolve.

Compared to Ryan Saunders, he's a great coach.

Compared to an average NBA coach, he sucks.
Ok, but Beverly and Vando come off the bench for most any good team. And again, DLO sucks balls.

Brandon Clarke had 7 offensive rebounds in the 4th quarter alone. Holy shit, that's your ballgame.

Finch said so in the postgame.

Neither did Memphis. Their guy can break you down. We don't have anyone who can outside of Ant occasionally.

Morant just throwa his body at people to get calls.

Meanwhile Memphis turned it into a hack fest at the wnd ans just DARED the officials to call them, which they did not
I wish it was even that. Then there'd at least be contact. Half the time he just falls down or falls sideways without much contact to speak of. That's the insult.

The Grizzlies got the calls and the wolves reverted to late game hero ball. Their only possession in the last three minutes or so with ball movement was the ATO with eight seconds left that led to the Ant three. Then Ant played hero ball by going for the steal on the high side on the last play, leaving Ja a clear path to the hoop.

In a perfect world, they would bring in somebody like Chris Paul during the off season (not the actual Chris Paul--too old and expensive). A leader who is smart, respected and understands late game execution. The perfect world doesn't exist. Hopefully, they can improve the pg and pf situations, Ant will continue to mature and KAT will stay healthy.

The future is bright but, damn, last night was a killer.

They'll win at home!

Hey, no matter how much it sucked, it was an entertaining, very close game in Memphis. Give themselves a shot, you never know.

Some were saying it was going to be 4-1. Maybe it will end up 4-2, but also could well be 4-3.

Ant drove me crazy last night. He hit the big shot, but he was a disaster on offense and defense the last five minutes. He and D-Lo were terrible at the end.

Interesting that wolves don't do much pick and roll at the end of the game like most teams.

Ant and KAT should be a deadly duo

It was a fun game to watch. By the way they showed that clip this morning and Dan Patrick asked "Wasn't that a charge?"

Yeah Dan, it was.

Just as they did in Game 1, the Timberwolves came into FedExForum and made the case that they, not the higher-seeded Grizzlies, were the flat-out better team in the most electric series of the opening round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. Minnesota pressed that case in the third, racing to a double-digit lead behind the hot shooting of Karl-Anthony Towns, frigid shooting from the Grizzlies, and a paint-packing defense that had clipped Ja Morant’s wings. After Malik Beasley’s banking runner put the Wolves up 13, the typically raucous cheers of the Memphis faithful were replaced by more muted murmurs—the unmistakable sound of a crowd beginning to think dire thoughts, to worry that they were witnessing the beginning of the end to a miraculous season.

With the season feeling like it might be slipping away, it fell to Morant—who’d been bottled up for a third straight game, with five missed free throws, five turnovers, and just 10 points on 12 shots at that juncture—to breathe new life into the Grizzlies using little more than a ball screen and a live dribble. And, as he has all season, holy s**t, did he ever deliver:

It was the first dunk in four games for Morant, who’s had notably less burst since taking a knee to the left leg on a Towns screen in Game 2. It was also one of the coolest goddamn throwdowns in recent playoff history. It was a hardwood explosion, reducing Beasley to cinder. (“Poor guy,” Desmond Bane said after the game. “Just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”) It was a shot of adrenaline straight into Memphis’s heart, and it broke the mounting tension in the building, giving the capacity crowd something to rally around—fresh hope that the Grizz, who climbed out of separate 25-point holes to win Game 3 just five nights earlier, might have another big comeback in them..

Reasonable people can disagree over whether Morant got all those trips on merit—it looked to me like he got the benefit of the whistle once or twice on plays where he created contact before going to the ground—but that’s where the styles-make-fights aspect of the series comes to the forefront..

These are two young teams learning their limits in real time, playing like their hair’s on fire, and occasionally screwing up, and having to try to overcome their mistakes through the judicious application of their mammoth talent. Sometimes, those efforts don’t look so hot. Sometimes, though, the result—like Ja’s end-of-the-third devastation—will take your breath away.

They don't cut and they don't roll, with the occasional exception of Vando. Part of it is that DLo sits on the damn ball. He plays his little cat and mouse game in the key, which rarely seems to work, and there's no spacing for anybody to cut or roll--except from the dunker's spot.

I'd be fine not upgrading the pf position if they could bring a top 8-10 pg in here. Top 5 is asking too much. MN sports fans are not worthy!

Russell is the one guard that can create hos own shot. At 30 mil per year, he should be the guy to count on when the game needs half court offense like last night. But to your point he dinks around.

Edwards needs to learn that mid range game, pull up jumpers. If he doesn't get all the way to the rim, hes worthless right now

I just wish towns would be happier playing closer to the basket. Wolves are short on easy points

This has been rattling around in my brain--while Beverley has added a much needed dose of toughness to the team, he's mercurial and as the only veteran presence with a track record of playoff basketball, there's a gaping void there. Would have been interesting to see what a healthy Ricky Rubio on the second unit and perhaps end of game would have provided in these last two losses. Other names that rattle around in my brain--PJ Tucker, Jae Crowder, Bobby Portis, as examples--seem pretty attainable and add an element of toughness and level-headedness that I'm not seeing on the team right now.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I wish KAT would stop being so immature during games. Ant is a much more mature person and player than KAT, and it is not even close.

Game 4:
Memphis - 33 Fouls, 25 FTA
Wolves - 23 Fouls, 40 FTA

Taylor Jenkins whines about the refs, gets fined $15,000

Game 5:
Memphis - 19 Fouls, 39 FTA
Wolves - 29 Fouls, 24 FTA

Make your own conclussion.

I don't think you are in the minority at all. KAT was pretty well behaved last night, though.

I think all the guys you named are at about the same talent level as PatBev. They really need a highly talented player who's also a leader and who's smart and respected. Like a younger Chris Paul. Those guys are crazy hard to find.

this is what bugs me about the NBA now. It's like the entire point of the game is for the offensive player to create or force some contact in hopes of getting fouls called against the defense.

whatever happened to just playing good basketball? Like running actual sets and plays, instead of hero ball or endless pick-and-roll variations?

maybe they should just award the game to the team that managed to get more fouls called against their opponents.

and if I was the commissioner, I would tell the refs to call technical fouls on anyone who complained about a call. maybe if half the players got ejected, they would stop whining and putting on a show after every call.

excuse me, I have to go outside and yell at a cloud now.
