EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – A look at the Field of 68 as we head into the penultimate weekend of the college basketball regular season. We’ll slap another one on ya’ Sunday night before the final verdict of my 30th Field of 68 (previously 64) projection is rendered in the wee hours of the morning on Selection Sunday (March 13).

Automatic qualifiers from multiple-bid conferences are noted with an *. Auto qualifiers own the best conference record or are the highest remaining seed in their conference tournament. NET rankings are noted in parentheses.

You're calling the American a one-team (Houston) conference. Maybe so, but either of BYU or Rutgers could ene up being replaced by SMU or Memphis, all depending on the conf tourneys.

I think BYU has to beat San Fransicso tonight to get in. And if SMU can get to the tourney final vs. Houston, that may be enough for them. I also think there are conferences where the current leader is far from a shoe-in to win their conf tourney eg. Montana State.
 

You're calling the American a one-team (Houston) conference. Maybe so, but either of BYU or Rutgers could ene up being replaced by SMU or Memphis, all depending on the conf tourneys.

I think BYU has to beat San Fransicso tonight to get in. And if SMU can get to the tourney final vs. Houston, that may be enough for them. I also think there are conferences where the current leader is far from a shoe-in to win their conf tourney eg. Montana State.
The whole thing is based on assuming the conference leader with the tournament and gets the auto bid. Obviously not guaranteed. SS releases his final teams just like Palm and Lunardi. Usually is about as correct as them if not ahead of them.
