College Basketball 2021-2022 Thread

I’m with you, specifically in leagues that are only 1 bid. WCC has moved past that though.

Right. The WCC gets three....maybe four bids. I see this as a way to get their #5/6 teams another potential win.

Marcus Carr-Leads the Longhorns (21-8) in minutes .392 FG % and .321 on 3's, averaging 11.1 pts and 3.2 assists with 2 turnovers
Jamal Mashburn-Leads the Lobos (12-17) in minutes .433 FG% and .333 on 3's, averaging 17.9 pts and 2.2 assists and 2.1 turnovers
Brandon Johnson- Averaging 33.6 minutes for DePaul (14-14) .410 FG% and .306 on 3's, averaging 10.3 pts and 7.1 rebounds
Not going to do Tre. Really, really rough stats. Has been getting around 15 minutes or so the last 5 games
Liam Robbins-Has played in the last 7 games for Vanderbilt
Minutes were 14-11-12-24-26-25-15
Point totals were 0-1-0-8-14-16-3
Rebounds 2-0-4-3-8-2-7
Had 4 blocks in his second game back
Sam Freeman has played in 28 of 29 games for Pacific (8-21), averaging 12.2 minutes and 4 pts along with 3 rebounds
Both Gach has been averaging 24.5 minutes for Utah (11-18), averaging 9.3 pts, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.2 turnovers. Started in 8 of 28 games played
Gabe Kalscheur-Has started every game for Iowa State (20-9) averaging 30.6 minutes, 9.3 pts, 1.8 assists, 2.5 turnovers, 2.2 rebounds, .350 FG% and .248 from 3 and leads the team in 3 pt attempts with 4.9 a game

Thanks for posting that update. I know it's spilled milk, but I keep thinking how nice it would have been to have kept Johnson and Kalscheur with the Gophers. I feel that both would have fit the culture Johnson is building and certainly could have helped ease the burden on the main 6 this season.

I realize that Gabe's 3-point shooting is still subpar, but the fact that he's averaging 30+ minutes for a 20 win team just amplifies the fact that his main strength is all the intangibles, that it seems only coaches and teammates notice, he brings to the team.

Overall, I'm happy to see these guys (for the most part) thriving in a place they wanted to be. I'm sure the decision to transfer, not knowing for certain if it was going to work out or not, was stressful.

Yeah, it really does seem that they are doing well.
Carr and Gabe on NCAA tourney teams.
Johnson with more minutes and more shot attempts, closer to home.
Mashburn is the go to guy with his team.
Gach with more minutes, points, attempts this year.
Freeman almost doubled his minutes at Pacific.
Robbins was able to follow his uncle and probably secure him a job while rehabbing and coming back.

I don't see the problem with the WCC bracket. You play a whole season. What's wrong with giving the teams who deserve it and were the best in the conference an advantage? If you didn't earn it in the regular season, you really need to earn it in the postseason. I like it.
I don't mind it from that standpoint, it's just an odd tournament set-up. I'd be all for giving the regular season champ an automatic bid in the final or just awarding them the bid as the Ivy does.

I would be interested in stats of all players the gophers offered in the last 2 seasons . You seem to have an over abundance of free time. We can look at everything we don't have

Anyone know if Kerwin Walton is hurt? I’m watching UNC players throw up bricks and air balls from 3 and Walton hasn’t seen the floor. I knew his minutes were down but didn’t realize he was buried that far on the bench.

Those play out to very low efficiency ratings.

He isn’t hurt. Has barely played the last three games.

Carr is at 14.49 PER
Mashburn 15.96
Johnson 13.24
Kalscheur 6.25
Just for reference, the leader in the nation is Zach Edey with 42.81

Gophers
Willis 23.53
Battle 17.96
Sutherlin 15.85
Curry 14.25
Stephens 14.05
Loewe 10.40

Marcus Carr and Texas playing Baylor right now-- I think Texas just went 3 possessions where Marcus never touched the ball once. and now another one where he brought it across halfcourt and never touched it again. Definitely playing a different style than last year

Chris Beard will never be confused with Richard Pitino.

He’s been steady tonight against a truly elite defensive team.

Matt Bradley San Diego is a stud. So strong and patient. Leading Wyoming. Maldonado can’t stop him. Really like Mountain West hoops

Baylor takes a timeout at mid court with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. 3:15 to go in a 7 point game. Seems like something the gophers of yesteryears would have done.

Lil Richards team losses another close one in spite of Mashburns 28 pts at Fresno St. All too familiar in crunch time as House and Mashburn force it and RP has the all too familiar angry face. Sure glad we are beyond all that.

This is quite true but Texas is woefully underachieving this season.
Michigan wonderfully underachieving. Texas underachieving but still was in the top 25 and top 4 in their conference. Big difference between that and being a bubble team with a tough few games left.

I'll cut him a little slack, they were over ranked to start the year. First year in Texas with a variety of players from every where. I think they have been underwhelming too, but I wouldn't want to face Beard in the tourney.

Big Ten games today

Nebraska @ Ohio State
Michigan State @ Michigan
Purdue @ wisconsin

For Big East Fans, Providence @ Villanova. Wildcats are 11-1 at home.
Pac12 Arizona @ USC
MAC Toledo @ Buffalo, Kent State @ Northern Illinois (Golden Flashes on a 10 game win streak)
A10 with a couple decent ones. Dayton @ Richmond and St Bonaventure @ VCU

Davis was unreal in the first meeting @ Purdue. Took 24 shots and had 14 rebounds. Crowl, Wahl and Vogt all fouled out in that one. Every big man foul pretty much used.
Should be a good game.
I'd expect similar foul problems for WI given Purdue's bigs. WI is not deep, so that could be a really big issue for them. I can't imagine Johnny Davis having the same type of game, he was so good in that one and would be tough to replicate. Agreed, should be a good game, but if the Badgers do get in foul trouble Purdue could win comfortably. Mich St. vs. Mich could be interesting too. Any game with Nebraska is bleh.

After absolutely beating down Penn State on Sunday night in University Park.....Nebraska is now leading OSU 43-39 at half in Columbus.
