Twins/Vikings/Wild/Wolves Championship appearance drought tracker

There's also the little problem of having their star player unsigned...

True, my assumption is that's going to get worked out. In the Twin Cities such a thought can wind up as foolhardy.

I'll be somewhat disappointed if the streak ends with the Wild winning it.
They should barely count in this drought tracker.
Niche sport.

Agreed. It wouldn't be as bad as saying it's over because of the Loons, but it would be closer to that than one of the other three breaking it.

And they (Wild) were not around at the start of the streak (91 Twins), so it somewhat skews things in that sense ... though 2000 was 21 years ago.

I don't disagree regarding the niche aspect, but given Minnesota's rich hockey tradition I would like to say at some point the Wild have been to the Stanley Cup Final more recently than the state of Florida (or North Carolina, or Texas, or Nevada, etc...). I really hope they get there before Washington (the state not the District).

Wait a second ...... have we always had this level of competition in the sense of winning championships?????

Yes, granted the thread is just about making it to the championship, not winning it. So they obviously have us beat in that sense.

But ....

Atlanta, heartbreak city

The sports fans of Atlanta have arguably endured a more frustrating 21st century than fans in any other U.S. city.

Yes, its Major League Soccer team has won a championship, in 2018. But neither Atlanta’s N.B.A. team nor its W.N.B.A. team nor its N.F.L. team has won a title, in any century. Baseball’s Atlanta Braves have not won a World Series in 26 years, and high-profile college teams have struggled, too. The N.H.L. hockey team left town in 2011.

“The inferiority of Atlanta’s sports teams is nothing less than astounding,” Ben Bussard, an Atlanta native, wrote 13 years ago — and many losses ago — in Bleacher Report. Bussard noted that the rap song “Welcome to Atlanta,” by Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris, managed to celebrate the city without mentioning its sports teams.

But now Atlanta has a chance to change the story. The Braves have made the World Series, with an underdog team that has overcome injuries. Last night, they lost to the Houston Astros, and the best-of-seven series is now tied at one game apiece. Atlanta is only three wins from a very rare celebration.

Minnesota has only had 1 NHL team pack up for another market, while Atlanta has had 2, so I suppose we got that going for us.

Boo hoo. They've now experienced a recent Super Bowl and World Series. We've been waiting 30 years.

Agree...their teams are usually always more relevant in the respective sport than ours. Not to mention they have the Georgia Bulldogs.

As a Vikings fan, would you rather go to the Super Bowl and blow a 28-3 lead or not go at all?

Definitely Super Bowl. I've already seen way too many hilariously bad ways to lose in the regular season and early playoffs. Time to take the next step.

Just think...if the next Vikings Super Bowl would be against the Bills, before they get to another one as well. Clash of the 0-4 teams, have Bud Grant and Marv Levy come out for the coin toss, good lord willing.

I think at this point it's far more likely Bud passes away prior to us playing another playoff game.

Get rid of the ridiculous Wild name, and return it to the North Stars.........then it would count.

It is a dumb nebulous name. Lightning, Heat & Majic also stink.

I thought that Polars would have been good, but the marketing groups didn't think a colorless bear could move product.

No faith in our Sean McVay clone?
I did say I believed in Kwesi's ability to get us over the hump, didn't I? Well, I do believe KAM is a good evaluator of talent and capability, so I'm going with KO being the right choice of their finalists.

I just can't help but wonder how much ownership is involved in today's debacle and how that bodes going forward.

Would Timberwolves winning the title be the most ironic?

Most likely to end the streak in order:

1. Wild (it's hockey and random)
1A. MNUFC
2. Timberwolves
3. Vikings
4. Twins

The Wolves are too high unless you think the Vikings/Twins %'s for the current year are 0%.

It's most certainly this thread that they all saw and made them realize they weren't doing enough to win championships.

Sorry but for me, the United winning it would be like the Lynx winning it.

Even NHL, again my personal opinion, but more of a niche sport compared to football, basketball, and baseball.

I don't know about that. While the odds are not great on the Wolves there is at least some hope that a small market/non-traditional power can get to the Finals (based on teams getting there in the past few years like Miami, Phoenix and Milwaukee). If Golden St/Phoenix gets bogged down with an injury or two, why not.

FiveThirtyEight gives them a 3% chance this year. Doesn't sound like much, but when they have been in the Blutarsky (zero point zero) range for nearly 2 decades, that's a huge leap forward.

The core is young, so perhaps it's sustainable for a few years as well. My ranking would be the same as Facts.

1. Wild
2. Wolves
3. Vikings
4. Twins

For the Wild though, I think it rests with the hopes this year. Game on.

The Vikings are hard to slot with the unknowns of Free Agents being finalized and the Draft.
