Pitino thus far 6-4 at New Mexico

Pitino's New Mexico Lobo team now 7-6 after beating Norfolk.

Don’t jynx us man! (3-15 probably isn’t out of the question…)

You're right, of course, especially if there is even one injury to a critical member of this team. Absent that, I have enough faith in this team to avoid kind of slump.

Monson was a joke.
Monson The Great! Who knew Mark Few was pulling the strings behind the curtain all along. Then Monson somehow has lasted at Long Beach State for 15 years with a less than 500 overall record.
He lives on the ocean in California and coaches basketball in anonymity. True magician.

I always liked Monson's teams on the offensive end of the court, when he had the talent he utilized it but they always had the problem of outscoring the apposing team, with his defenses that ended up being a tall task most of the time. I also got the impression at times that his teams were doing what they wanted not giving a crap about what the coaching staff desired and didn't really try to hide it.

Few is great, but I’ll argue that Gonzaga is still good under Monson too. He built the foundation and Mark ran with it.

Yes, Gonzaga was good when Monson was there, but why? If he had a major part in Gonzaga's launch how do you explain away the records Monson has logged at Minnesota and Long Beach St with him as the leader. Did Monson forgot how after he left Gonzaga?

Considering what Monson had to deal with and clean up here, he did fine. He also had some a nice run at Long Beach State, but recently has fallen flat. If he had stayed at Gonzaga they would’ve been good still. Mark took it to a new level, but it wasn’t like he didn’t have a nice head start given to him or that Monson had Gonzaga in the dumpster. Monson also should get some credit for bringing on Few and finding Tommy Lloyd for him.

Watching New Mexico play Nevada and I am so thankful we have a new coach.
NM has no ball movement and individuals playing hero ball. They are now getting pummeled by nearly 20 points. Mashburn shooting 3 point bricks early in the shot clock and teammates standing around watching others try to break the game into a one on one game. Nevada is being gifted the game.

I am so very glad I don't have to watch such bad basketball here at Minnesota anymore.

Not to wish bad on RP or his team, but I watched the entire NM vs Nevada game, man I smiled watching Alford make the halftime adjustments and taking a 5 pt lead to 20 quick. Still looks like a mess. Mashburn also wasn't great most of the game

I hope all my ex-girlfriends spend 1/2 the amount of time stalking and thinking about me, as this board spends on our ex’s.
The rule is it take half as long to get over a relationship as the relationship itself. So we have 3 more years of this. But those complaining about Monson really need to move on now. Time is up.

Pitino! It makes so mad!
Why on just Pitino? The athletic directors and the other school leadership had the oversight of the program and had a much longer record of failure. In retrospect, the last 25 years have been one blunder after another from lack of oversight to coaches to administrative decisions. The cynical side of me wonders how the school leadership will try to screw this up if Johnson finally brings to the program to compete on a high level in the big10.

I wouldn't say Monson built Gonzaga either. Dan Fitzgerald was their previous coach and AD and he stayed on as the AD until his death. Monson and Few were assistants under Fitz and Monson was only the HC for two years before coming here. Not saying he doesn't deserve credit for that run in 1999, but the architect was still in the AD chair and he just moved Few into the head seat when Monson came here

Yeah Norwood struck out on about 13 people before essentially throwing a Dart by calling Billy D and begged for a name. Crazy thing is Ben Johnson the youngest coach in the big ten and if Pitino was still here in year nine he'd still be the youngest coach in the league

Sad story with one of Pitino's former Lobos, Gethro Muscadin who was mentioned in Reusse's column.

Damn that is terrible, I was hoping Pitino was going to sign that guy when he was at MN. Maybe Pitino is just cursed?
