Weightroom Strength Question

What types-of-numbers are people putting-up? There are some programs that frequently provide updated website information in terms of weightroom records. How many people are benching 400lbs+, squating 600lbs+, cleaning 350lbs+?
 

Count me in as someone who is also very interested in this.

I know some other programs post the top weight room performers, and the only reason I can think of is that the Gopher coaches think it benefits them to keep this stuff on the down low.

I do remember something about a lifting club that rewards an athlete who benches, cleans and squats a certain amount, but I haven't heard anything on that front in at least a year. (I think it ws Hoese, Moen and Burris, but not sure).
 

Its a good question and I too wonder about it. But at the same time I wonder if its an over rated question. Reason being is that after Brewster took over the numbers jumped up, or rather sky rocketed from the Mason Years. When I saw that, wow, were going to have a solid year in his first year here. We all know what happened in his first year. Before we go too far...I am a Brewster fan and hope we have an awesome year this year.
 

Same old question

In a former incarnation, I question why they don't tout the records, publish it on line as a standard, reward those who set records with a roped off area. But no, we rely on comments as a guide to the progress in the weight room. Now I have gone further with who has the best vertical, 10 yard time, and 40.

My conclusion is that it is one of two only things. First, Coach Brewster doesn't want the result in the public domain. Doesn't want opponents aware of where we are in the strength and conditioning. Second, the U, athletic department, and or webdudes cannot, will not, or have unilaterally decided its not important.

I think both are short sighted. First put it out there to potential recruits. This is what it takes to play here. The heck with oppents, we have to play with what we have so why not publish. And finally reward those who have set records at the U.

Even for lineman it is pretty over-rated. A majority of the strength comes from the bottom half of the body.

Coincidentally, those just happen to be the numbers required for membership in the "Big Man's Club" (aka "It's a Big Man's Game"). Last year, there were only four members (Moen, Small, Burris, Jacobs). Two graduated (Moen and Small) and, so far, only one new member has joined the club, Ra'Shede Hageman, to go along with Jacobs and Burris.

Nice info. Do you have anymore nuggets about the offseason workouts, like strength numbers, 40 times, who's improved the most, and who's been lazy, etc.?
 

You are correct, GophersinIowa, strength comes from the ground up. A solid foundation is a must. Not only true in buildings, but football players too. Squats are very important.

The kid is a beast! Those are impressive numbers for a RS Freshman. I thought I heard that Ra'Shede needed to get stronger because the Washburn weight program wasn't great. If that's true, he's made quite an improvement. I'm excited to see what he can do this year.
