So, I made a mistake on turning on the radio while it was tuned to 1500, and Souhan is filling in for D0uchery. I kept listening because he announced he was going to have Phil Miller, who he described as the Gopher's football writer, or words to that effect.

Item 1 - Let's talk about the Twins and what trades they need to make.

Item 2 - Let's talk about David Kahn and the Wolves.

Item 3 - Gophers...Only asked one thing "wins this year, more or less than 2". What a jack-hole.

Item 2 - Let's talk about David Kahn and the Wolves. (Miller thinks that they will be a lot better this year)
Item 3 - Gophers...Only asked one thing "wins this year, more or less than 2". (Miller said 5 wins) What a jack-hole.

I heard the interview also and to be fair Unregistered, Souhan did say that Miller shouldn't mention his name or Ruesse's. I choose to avoid the context of that suggestion (;)) but I'd think you'd agree that the suggestion itself is a damn great idea!

Heard it as well just tuned in to listen to GL. Souhan is unlistenable for me.

Here's the deal with Souhan and Reusse: They aren't football guys. Their "expertise" lies in baseball. This team could go 13-0 for every year for the next decade and they still wouldn't care. For example, Reusse has said on the air that his three favorite sports are: 1.Baseball 2. Golf 3. Half-pipe snowboarding. Not making that up.

Reusse hates football

I have heard reusse say several times on the air that he HATES football. It shows.

I've heard Souhan say once that he doesn't like college football, particularily Big Ten football.

My jaw almost dropped. It amazes me that a guy can hate Tim Brewster and the Minnesota Gophers Football team as a whole while admitting he doesn't like the sport. So why does he give a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#? You can tell the guy doesn't know what he's taking about, but yet he keeps on and on and on about how bad they are. Makes no sense.

I'm sure my school would love it if I started talking about how I hated my students or hated some of the topics I had to teach upon. Wait, I know, they'd probably fire me.

He did admit on the show that his "role" in Twin's broadcasts with Coomer is for Coomer to make the fans happy and it's his to piss them off. Not a direct quote. What a horrible way to go through life, to just keep looking under rocks for slugs. I remember when he first took over a column on the Strib, and I truly enjoyed his writing, because at that time his soul had not turned as black as a wisconsin fan's heart. He slowly lost any love or appreciation for sport, and now busies himself in churning out uninformed, unimaginative schlock. Surely there must be a "Crap Column Generator" similar to a nickname generator out there to save him even more time.

Well, Souhan won't be talking Gophers football for long. Now that the Twins have beaten the mighty KC Royals twice in a row, I'm sure he's hard at work on a column detailing why the Twins are destined to be World Series Champs. Of course, if they lose today, he'll be hard at work detailing what a miserable no-talent team the Twins are and why they are at best 3rd place in the AL Central. Such is the life of a hack.

I really don't know why this guy has a job, he's not even a very good writer. At least Ruesse can write even if i don't like what he writes.

No, he's busy working on another piece that's designed to run Delmon Young out of town because he hates him.

And here I had the idea that someone who works covering sports just might be expected to be interested in sports. And in Big Ten country, you might expect that they might be a little interested in the Big Ten. If he finds such a major part of his job so distasteful, there would be 500 resumes sent in if he decided to do something less distasteful.

It just shows how poisoned the local sports media is. Things are done the way they are here, simply because that is the way they have been done for some time now. People pay attention to the sports media because they want sports information, they aren't reading or listening to see how many cheap potshots can be made. But people can only take what is actually offered. They keep saying that they provide balance, but balance to what? Where is this massive media cheerleading that somehow needs to be balances with an unending stream of potshots?

Some in this media are only interested in some sports, but not others, and resent that part of their job is to cover the sports that they don't like. Others have just drank the media Kool-Aid, and think all this to be normal.

I'm not usually one to join the media-bashing here, but Souhan really has fallen off badly. He was a Twins beat writer and they'll always be #1 to him. I get that. Fine. But his utter unwillingness to even do his job when it comes to the other teams is pathetic. His late-season coverage of Gopher basketball this year was even worse. He spent all winter covering the Vikings and the Olympics with nary a peep about Gopher hoops. Then suddenly, come March with nothing better to write about, he's writing moronic columns mocking Xavier prior to the NCAA tournament (even though they were better then us) and throwing out completely baseless BS about Tubby leaving. I can almost guarantee you that he didn't see 3/4 of the Gopher basketball games and couldn't name more then 7-8 players on the entire Gopher football roster. Even in a town with all the pro sports, there's no excuse for that.

Ruesse, no matter what you think of him, is a talented writer (when he feels like it.) And generally, he doesn't go around spouting off about things he's clueless about (I haven't listened to his new radio show, so he may do it on there.) His only real crime in the eyes of Gopher fans is that he made his mind up about Brewster in the 1st 5 minutes and refused to change it. But as yet, it's hard to say he was wrong about that.

I don't like the lack of/ignorant coverage of the Gopher FB as much as anybody so it got me wondering, what if there were a few people willing to start a Gopher FB podcast? There is one on iTunes with two guys who have a decent idea of what they're talking about but they have a pretty small amount of podcasts.

I think it could really be successful and they could probably get 15-20 minutes of access per week from guys like Marcus Fuller and Phil Miller who currently appear on TC radio maybe more than once a year. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to do it. They could probably even get some airtime with Gopher coaches and players, I can't imagine Brew wouldn't love to have some positive/fair coverage, even if it's as minor as a podcast.

Just a thought.

I've never really been a fan or hater of Souhan. But I will say this: His coverage of the NCAA Tournament and of the rumors regarding Tubby Smith was below amateurish. He made a complete jackass of himself as it relates to Xavier and then threw a tantrum when called out on it. On top of that, he complicated the matter by trying to prove how smart he is by spreading rumors that Tubby was headed anywhere but back to the U. Thankfully, after looking like a complete fool for several of his stories, he finally stopped talking about basketball altogether, which was a great benefit to every basketball fan in the state.
