All Things 2021 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Do the Vikings ever stop a team going for 2? Without looking it up, seems like it never happens.

As for the Vikes going for 2, didn't have a problem with it in 1st half when penalty nudged it to the 1. Going for it up 18-17 with 4 minutes in the 3rd Q, felt like to much time to chase it.

Anyway, nice win. Good to get back to .500 heading into the bye week.

Don't look now, Kirk Cousins playing a pretty damn high level, and also leading them on multiple game-winning drives (not to mention a few "should have been" GW drives) in the last several weeks.

Nice to see Darrisaw getting the start today, gotta learn trial by fire at some point.

He’s been playing great despite the reins put on the offense by Zim- wish Kc would get vaxxed but that’s a completely different topic.

It looks like Peterson will be out for awhile. Hopefully not, but a hamstring is usually multiple weeks.

Vic Fangio's not going to survive in Denver. Time for George Paton to offer his buddy Spielman a 7th round pick for Zim. Maybe even two 7th rounders. He won't be able to resist. They've already got Teddy and Pat Shurmer in place. Zim would be thrilled.

Wyatt Davis must be horrible. Udoh is a complete bum, but he keeps playing.

That's another indictment of Spielman's drafting.

Replacing the regime in place cannot happen soon enough.

Fangio thought Teddy would be steady enough (over the potential higher upside of Lock) to win just enough games to keep his job and address the QB situation after the season but they're in a brutal division. The going is going to get a lot tougher the rest of the way, there's a reason Teddy has been a backup almost everywhere he's been. He's one of the best backup QBs you can have, when you look at the whole package, but it's just hard for him to win enough games.

Fangio is just in a really tough spot. Hard to evaluate him as a HC without really having a QB during his tenure there.

Just admit it was an awful take, and stop embarrassing yourself.

Agree. Going for 2 in the 3rd quarter is dicey at best. The game would be been much different if we just kicked the extra-point in the 3rd quarter.

The rush to condemn the draft class, especially lineman, is ridiculous. Brian O'Neal didn't play much as a rookie and he was a 2nd round pick.

That said, Udoh and Cleveland have both been bad. Davis doesn't have a very high bar to clear. Hopefully we see him soon.

per Shama:

Zimmer Won’t Be Fired Any Time Soon

Mike Zimmer has survived his critics so far. With the Vikings headed into a bye week and not playing again until October 31, the embattled head coach won’t be dismissed mid-year.

Fans, many of whom have been frustrated with Zimmer for years, are howling for his termination. Despite a two-game winning streak that has pulled the season record to 3-3, the criticism is intense mostly because Minnesota has missed the playoffs two of the last three years and continues to play conservative offense.

Only a deep run into the postseason, perhaps necessitating a trip to the Super Bowl, will pacify the large number of Zimmer critics. While the Vikings have the potential to be a playoff team, the inconsistency shown so far won’t even be enough to make the playoffs.

Ahead on the schedule are two games against the 5-1 Packers. Other 5-1 teams to contend with are the Cowboys, Ravens and Rams. Minnesota must also play the 4-2 Chargers.

A deeply disgruntled fan-base can hit the Vikings ownership hard, both financially and emotionally. Angry patrons stop buying tickets and boycott other revenue sources of the franchise. When boos fill U.S. Bank Stadium, it sends a message to ownership that customers are very unhappy.

Skol Vikes!!

Udoh hasn't given up a sack all year and is damn good in the run game.

Holding happens on every single play. They chose to pick on him yesterday. The one hold was criminal by the way.

Just heard Darrisaw graded out as a top 5 left tackle for this week.
Let's go...
Number 3 in his first game against a good defensive end. If this guy is for real and is a lockdown tackle, we are going to be a good offense for a few years.

Skol Vikes!!

That, friends and neighbors, is the Dreaded Vote of Confidence.

The Vikings have the most offensive holding calls in the NFL and it's not close. In 6 games, they have been called 17 times. The next closest team has 12.

Green Bay has 4, with various injuries and first year starters on their line. OK, NFL!

You can call offensive holding whenever you want.

Objectively correct.

Darrisaw started every snap this season, except for an uncontrollable groin injury, that had zero to do with the Vikings and their eval of him.

Udoh had a lot of penalties. Picked a really unfortunate game (with all his family there) to do that. I don't recall if he got straight up badly beat.

What are you basing this off of. I'm guessing PFF grades.

If the Vikings somehow manage to get through this next 5 games (well, maybe just 4, AT the 49ers may not be that brutal), the remainder of their schedule is suddenly looking pretty manageable at this point. It wouldn't be out of the question. Things would sure look a lot different if they manage to beat the Cowboys after the Bye.

They need to split the next 4, but I feel like Dallas is almost a must in. I can't see them beating the Chargers or Ravens on the road, especially without Peterson. It's too bad they're not playing this week, as Dak Prescott would likely be out.

Chargers are good, but I would also venture to predict as many Purple fans in LA as there will be for the home team in that game. Just sayin'.
