All Things Gopher Baseball

What do u hear about transfers into the program?
I think they are trying but I don't think they have a lot of $$$$ to give out. With the numbers in the portal I'd imagine they bring in a guy or two but I don't know how quick we will see a commitment.

I just watched a current Gopher pitcher in a town ball game this weekend. He's been at the U a few years. It looked like Anderson's crew completely screwed him up. He was missing targets and beaning batters for the two innings he pitched. His control was awful. In high school the kid always hit his spots. It was rather sad to see.

Who was it? I thought everyone that was coming back was playing college summer leagues this year didn't think we had any guys coming back playing town ball this summer?

You could be right with this kid. His name was Ryan Duffy and he technically was a senior this year. Someone said he was coming back to the U for one more season, but maybe he called it quits. In any case, both he and Sam Bridges took a nose dive with their pitching while at the U. Both threw low 90s. Bridges is done. Duffy looked really shaky. It was sad to see the digression.

Duffy was in Waterloo of the northwoods earlier this year. I think there is a chance he comes back but it definitely isn't a sure thing yet and I think part of it just depends on how much room they have. Watching Duffy a couple times in high school he had pretty solid control but he'd get into some control issues at times too. In his time as a Gopher he has been pretty solid but just has these hiccups where his control leaves him for a outing and he just can't get out of it, happened at Nebraska this season. Even looking at his 3 starts in Waterloo this summer he had 2 really good outings going 5 innings 2 hits no runs 2 walks and 5 strikeouts and 5 innings 4 hits no runs 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. His other outing was good too but he did have control issues going 6.2 innings 1 hits 2 runs both unearned 5 walks and 9 strikeouts but 2 balks as well.
I don't think Bridges ever actually pitched for the Gophers in a game but I remember him being a solid prospect out of high school.

Couple additions maybe. The first I'm not 100% sure on as the kid doesn't do social media and the school never announced it but I've seen him listed with Minnesota in the perfect game player of the year release.
Minnesota | Josh Kingery, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City HS
Kingery, headed to play at the University of Minnesota, was outstanding doing it all this spring. On the mound, he finished at a 13-1 record and posted a 0.48 ERA in 87 innings while striking out an astronomical 182 hitters against just six walks. For good measure, he also posted a .547 average at the dish where he slugged seven home runs, scored 45 times and drove in 32.

The second I am sure about and is a transfer I've been expecting the Gophers to land the last week or so. RHP Aidan Maldonado out of Rosemount who initially went to Illinois. Really struggled this past year but has electric stuff and I think a change of scenery will benefit him.

So that must mean Radel and Elliot are gone or raabe is being drafted?

Radel and Elliott are in the portal and I don't think they will be back. I think there may be a guy or two that is just done with baseball as well.

Alec Willis goes in the 7th round and 211 overall to St. Louis. Zack Raabe goes in the 8th round and 237 overall to Milwaukee. I'd say Raabe is definitely gone and probably comes in under slot. Willis is pretty likely gone as well. Willis could definitely go to school and be a 1st rounder in a few years but usually if you go top 10 rounds the team already has the parameters of a deal they feel good about with the draftees reps. Willis will get over slot and it looks like the Cardinals saved money on the majority of their top 10 round picks so that should help them sign him. Nothing is official or anything but I'd be surprised if they both don't sign.
Gophers will probably hit up the transfer portal for some reinforcements and there are a few guys they have already been following close so we will see what comes of it.

Goldie Willis is gone. He was going to be Seths roommate next year so sorry to see him go.
If I were MN I would go after Kellen Strohmeyer of Iowa. He decommitted from North Carolina and IOWA is all over him.
He's getting a $1 million bonus.

It looks like they have landed one of the guys I thought they were targeting in the portal. Righty Will Semb who is in the portal after spending his freshman year at Iowa now is listed on the Green Bay Booyah roster with his school as University of Minnesota.

I was bummed when he entered the portal as he threw a fair amount of innings from the bullpen.

Minnesota was among the finalists for SDSU transfer Adam Mazur. The Woodbury native was the Friday night started for the Jackrabbits and is currently throwing in the Cape this summer.

Mazur was a guy I thought the Gophers would land but saw he committed to Iowa a few days ago. Struggled this past spring but really good as a freshman and throwing well in the cape so far.

I saw Nebraska just added former Texas A&M head coach Rob Childress as an assistant. The big ten should only get stronger.

This is good for Nebraska and really no big surprise. Childress loves Nebraska, already built a retirement home outside of Lincoln a few years ago. His kids went to Nebraska for college and I believe may still live in Nebraska. He should have been Nebraska's head coach instead of Mike Anderson after Dave Van Horn left the program.

True. Pair him with their already successful young head coach and they have to be the favorites going forward in the big ten. Will Bolt’s staff has been recruiting very very well and adding Childress who is great with pitchers and that’s a tough combo

Seth Clausen to IOWA state tourney next Thursday. 0.79 era pitches last game of HS.

Other game Wentworth vs Brecht. Both D1 Kansas State and IOWA.
You all invited!

Would be a fun trip wish I could make it. Will have to try to find a stream online.

Outfielder from Hayfield that the Gophers have been after for a while.

Good for coach Hunt, will be interesting to see how 14 fills the opening.

Watch incoming Freshman Seth Clausen throw in IOWA state tournament 11 am Thursday from IOWA Hawkeyes field.

Two Gophers have found new homes in the portal as Ryan Duffy is headed to St.Cloud and Andrew Hmielewski is headed to Omaha.
Gophers added another transfer yesterday as well.

Gophers pick up Edina native and Nebraska Omaha transfer pitcher Richie Holetz. Solid numbers in draft league this summer and for the Mavs this spring.
