Make your calls. I'll go first. The record for 3-pointers made (I think) is 18. I'm saying we'll break that this year. Basically, our entire offense will be outside shooting, and at least one game we'll get more than 18 to fall.

Someone here wrote that Ben played on the nw team that holds the single bt season losing record.

I like the most 3's in a game one as I think we'll be jacking them up quite a bit.

I hate to contribute to the Debby Downer mood, but I think we could easily see a points given up in the paint record being broken. A little foul trouble and we'll be playing 6'5 guys on guys like Kofi Cockburn.

Despite my worries about the roster for this season, I have a weird feeling that coaches in the B1G at least, will feel for Ben and in the games where there might be blow outs, they'll pull their starters sooner than ppl would think.

So I don't think any bad record will be broken, but I do agree that we have a good shot at breaking some 3 point shooting records. if that is a positive or negative break, who knows. This team is built to shoot 3's or live and die by the 3....

I think this team will get a lot of steals. I think this team will give up a record number of points.

Teams should score inside the paint against the Gopher easily with marginal resistance....I will also agree with record number of points allowed in one season...

If you are correct about giving up a record number of points that would be a very bad sign. Defense was supposed to be solved with BJ and Thorson.

I don't necessarily blame the defensive schemes and things, I just think when you have so few quality posts defenders you're going to get murdered inside. Unless I'm missing something they will get killed in the paint, especially in the conference.

Losing every non-conference game, then going 0-fer in the B1G schedule. Can Ben survive not winning a single game?

Really? You make it seem like the players he’s got on the team were all from open tryouts on campus with no CBB experience.

Be careful, that's probably how we'll fill out the 12th spot for one of our "bigs". Trevon Winter would be the MAN on this team.

Minnesota likely will matchup against a mid-major, dependent on a quick-slashing offense and long range shooting also minus serviceable inside frontcourt presence, thus resulting in a few Gopher wins, although the Big Ten Conf. will be a different animal, checking talent on other rosters, my opinion only, they could go winless in conference play....

Agreed. Two things would shock me this season, one is we finish with a record above .500, the other would be we go winless. I think we have a better chance at finishing above .500

No way we go winless.
I’m thinking 6-10 wins seems right, without dissecting a single part of the schedule

one record that will be set - number of new threads on Gopher hole ripping team and coach.....
If he gets a good fall recruiting class of at least 4 guys and it feels like he has started a future here- the pressure will be off and I don't think you will see that. Lousy recruiting class? Yep, it will be ugly.

I think it's unfair for fans to put too high of expectations on Johnson's initial recruiting classes. Let's revisit Pitino's first two full recruiting classes.

First Class:

Nate Mason: good, but not great, Big Ten player

Josh Martin: left the team before the second semester and had a mediocre mid-major career

Carlos Morris: decent junior year after transferring but kicked off the team as a senior

Bakary Konate: had potential but never really developed and remained well below average for his career

Gaston: virtually worthless

Second Class:

Jordan Murphy: had as good of a career as we could have expected and then some

Dupree McBrayer: a below average Big Ten player

Ahmad Gilbert: absolutely not a power conference player and he didn't even do very well at Rider after transferring; he ended his career outside of D1

Dorsey: a total head case who wasn't very good his freshman year and completely squandered his opportunities afterward

I believe Jonathan Nwankwo was also in that recruiting class but I think he had trouble getting admitted. He went to VCU, redshirted his freshman year, transferred to a junior college after that and played one year. Transferred to Kent State and played very little there. Finished his career at an NAIA school.

Appraisal:

So there you have it. Pitino's first two recruiting classes resulted in two players of high quality who played four years and another slightly below average player who played four years. Two other players remained for four years but one was worthless and the other was well below average for his career. One player had a fair first year but didn't make it two full years after transferring from junior college. Two players didn't make it beyond their first year here and another one didn't manage to get admitted. Another player stayed two years but wasn't good enough to play significant minutes at the D1 level.

Now, consider that these recruiting classes came after a period of decent success. The first one followed an NIT championship and an NCAA tournament berth (with a win) the season before that. The second followed that period and a disappointing, but not losing, overall season.

Bottom line is that I don't feel I should hold Johnson to higher standards for initial recruiting than Pitino achieved (although I certainly hope he can do better) especially since I believe he faces a much tougher initial situation.
