2021-2022 Schedule

Gophers schedule to date. Schedule will have minimum of 29 regular-season games, maximum of 31. I haven't seen confirmation of Gavitt Games participation, so for now not including that on the schedule. If Gophers do participate, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a home game.

Note: 2 years ago the ACC Challenge pairings were announced May 29, and the Gavitt Games pairings were released June 6.

MINNESOTA (25 slots filled as of 5/19/21)
Nov. 9: KANSAS CITY
Nov. 12: vs. George Mason/South Carolina/Western Kentucky
Nov. 14: vs. George Mason/South Carolina/Western Kentucky
Nov. 29-Dec. 1: ACC Challenge (highly likely on the road)
Dec. 5: @ Mississippi State

ILLINOIS*
INDIANA*
@ Indiana*
IOWA*
@ Iowa*
@ Maryland*
@ Michigan*
MICHIGAN STATE*
@ Michigan State*
@ Nebraska*
NORTHWESTERN*
@ Northwestern*
OHIO STATE*
@ Ohio State*
PENN STATE*
@ Penn State*
PURDUE*
RUTGERS*
WISCONSIN*
@ Wisconsin*

March 9-13: Big 10 Tournament (Indianapolis)
So far I see 2-23

No B10 team has had close to that poor of a record in the last 19 years. I understand the hole the Gophers are in right now, but do you really think they'll be that bad?
If the current roster doesn’t change, yes. We will add some games (hopefully against bad teams) have but I honestly think the ceiling for the team is 10-11 wins.

If they go 2-23 in those 25 and go 5-0 in the to be scheduled 5, that’s 7-23 and not at all unrealistic IMO

I'll say 6-5 non-conference.

Easiest, or softest? I don’t think anything will be easy this year, regardless of the soft schedule.

I guess it depends upon that 11th game that isn't there yet unless the November tournament is a round robin. Also, we could get one of the ACC's worst in the Challenge game and that could give us a chance at home. Boston College has had as rough or worse of an offseason as us and Wake Forest lost a lot as well. Pittsburgh didn't lose the same numbers but may be weak as well.

Good point. In a normal year, easiest. This year, softest is probably the better adjective.

I still think UST is a financial win win for the program

Since UST's expenses consist of the bus ride from Anderson to Williams. They might get by with a lower guarantee.

Plus, since their gym only holds 1,500, they might bring in some fans that would want to see the Tommies live for the only time this season. Hence, a bigger gate.

Does the CIT have a selection committee?

Power Conference teams aren't eligible for the CIT. Mid-major tournament only.

From time-to-time, some power conference teams play in the CBI. It hasn't happened much in recent years although DePaul and West Virginia both played in the 2019 tournament.

I’d guess 7-4 looking at it

9-22 (2-18)

I don't think they'll be that bad in conference. Pitino's historically awful 2015-16 team won two games in conference and I think would have won a couple more had Mason, McBrayer, and Dorsey not been suspended and Joey King had not been injured afterward (the team was improving towards the latter part of the year until those events). I think the guards on this team will be better shooters collectively than the guards on that team. Mason shot 38.9% that year, Morris shot 38.9% (until he got kicked off the team), Dorsey shot 36%, McBrayer shot 32.6%, and Ahmad Gilbert shot 30.4%. The team shot only 31% from 3 that year (gave up 38.2% from three) and that was with Joey King's 40%.

Obviously, Johnson needs to add a couple of big men and he's trying. Freshman Jordan Murphy emerged as one of the team's best players that year. I'm guessing the junior Battle can probably do about as well as the freshman Murphy and Ihnen can do at least as well as Buggs (Steffon Mitchell certainly would if he comes). Treyton Thompson won't have Bakary's size but I suspect he is more skilled.

Yeah but if two guys roll an ankle we don’t have a scholarship substitute

In the end, I suspect he will fill 11 or 12 scholarships with active (not including Fox) players. Now, a couple of them may be stiffs but at least they'll be available if necessary. Not including Fox, we have 9 now so 11 would only be two more. I don't see why he can't get at least two more. We heard about the British freshman big man just cleared by the NCAA a few days ago. Ours is the best offer he has so far. Mitchell and Manley are still prospects. There aren't many new players entering the portal at this point but there are some and most of the portal players getting offers recently aren't getting very good ones so the demand among better programs appears to be slowing down considerably.

Well, a highly anticipated matchup, on the part of a few select Gopher Hoops fans anyhow.

When does official men's basketball full-practice start?
