Gable Steveson, defensive end?

Can’t say too much but I’d be watching for
Gable news after the Olympics are over...

He's going to WWE. Chase the money no point staying in college he just needs to stay amateur through olympics

We’ll see. Fleck may have different ideas.
In a couple interviews after his NCAA title he did make it seem like he wanted to come back and win another next year. Maybe he gives football a shot in the fall, wins another natty in wrestling, then sees if he gets any NFL nibbles in the spring before making a decision on the WWE. If he DOES play football this fall I can't imagine he'd make much of impact -- at least not early in the season. Waiting until after the Olympics doesn't give him much time to prepare, and while we're talking about a complete freak athlete, we're also talking about one who has no idea what he's doing on the field.

Color me extremely intrigued.

Oh. You’re back to using this username?
Huh? I was banned until June for derailing a basketball recruiting thread too much/often.

No idea on NFL. He will be playing football though.
I would be shocked if he tries to play DL for the Gophers this fall, after winning a medal at the Olympics and signing a pro WWE contract. I would just go straight to the NFL, if I were him. Like Brock did. I'm certain a team would give him a try out.

Given the depth we have on the interior, with the transfers and the younger players we already have. I would just think that it will be too hard for him to develop all the technique -- footwork, hand punching, pass rushing moves, etc. -- in such a short time.

He's too big to play End. His path to the NFL would be as an Aaron Donald type.

But, I could easily be completely wrong. Just pulling that out of my rear end. Wouldn't be the first time!

If he's just a freak, and unblockable one-on-one in passrush, maybe you throw him out there on obvious passing downs. Line him up over a guard that you're pretty sure you can get him singled up on (as opposed to sliding the line his way) and tell him to get the QB.

With his quickness and incredible agility, I don't think he's too big to play DE on obvious passing downs. On downs where the play call is in doubt, his quickness coupled with his inexperience might be a bit of a liability (biting on fakes). Still, I'd love to see what someone with his physical gifts could do, at DT or DE, in certain situations. His presence wouldn't diminish us and it might give Rossi another difficult-to-counter weapon.

Gable? Gable?
Um, he's gonna play football. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Gable pass out at 31 Flavors last night.
Excellent - you're a great 'Hole source - you fit right in!

Trouble with the fake wrestling industry is that their loyalty to the performers is often fake as well. He might be looking at other options such as football for the long run. Who knows what really is going on.

Well not like CFB is a road to riches...

If he can walk backwards into the WWE.....I couldn't understand trying out football. If he has any personality....he could make a buttload in pro wrestling....and the possibility of a media (movies?) career.

...and eventually, politics.

Yes, a fair point.

I really think obvious passing downs would be the only reasonable way he sees the field this fall, in a Gophers uniform.

You can tell him "don't worry about the defensive scheme, you're just a wild card in here, try as hard as you can to put pressure on the QB, if you sack him that's icing on the cake, don't worry about tackling anyone else".

Then yes, you can line him up wherever you think he can get the best matchup. But I actually think with his body type that lining him up on a smaller, slower interior OL might work out better. Again, think Aaron Donald.

Titans are trying former Michigan HWT Coon at OL.

He was a terrible football player, the Vikings saw it and anyone who saw him play knew it. He was never taken seriously as a football prospect, ever.
That's just your dislike of Lesnar showing... He was a raw player, to be sure. To say he didn't have the athletic ability to play pro football is just plain asinine. If the NFL had been a priority to Brock, he would have been better served learning at the collegiate level, but he was in a hurry. The Vikings certainly didn't have the time to teach him to play the sport at that level, though. Lesnar had lucrative opportunities in pro wrestling, so he wasn't going to settle for peanuts trying to learn to play football... He made the $mart decision for himself. He was most definitely taken seriously, though...

Absolutely.

It's one thing to get invited to a rookie mini-camp or to spring mini-camps, as a try-out. NFL teams do that all the time, on guys they risk very little but you never know and might impress.

It's entirely another thing to get invited to the initial roster for fall training camp. Sure, you have a very low chance of making the final cut, but they're not even going waste their time inviting you if you have no chance at all.

Yeah really hard to know what would have happened had he put the time in.

Granted it's his call to do that or something else so I don't blame him.

He would equate to an OG or DT. Others have tried and there has been success.

"Stephen Matthew Neal (born October 9, 1976) is a former American football guard who played his entire career for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He is a former world champion in freestyle wrestling, national champion amateur and collegiate wrestler at Cal State-Bakersfield. He was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2001, and won three Super Bowl rings with the team. He is one of a handful of NFL players who did not play college football."

Well said. Lesnar wasn't willing to dedicate the time needed to become a great football player. He may or may not have ever made it but there was no doubt he had all the physical tools to be successful.

He made a run at it and when it became clear it wasn't going to be an easy transition he elected to go the quicker more lucrative routes he had available to him as opposed to put in the time and effort he would have needed to in order to make it in the NFL.

People looking back now probably realize that Lesnar didn't get his shot with the VIkings straight out of college... but they don't seem to realize that he'd already spent several years in the WWE's minor leagues and had reached the top by becoming the youngest WWE champion. Then he tried pro football... so he was considerably older than virtually anyone else who would be trying to break into the NFL (Never mind that it had been close to a decade since he'd played even high school football.) At that point, it became clear to him (and the Vikings) that it wouldn't work out. He had too much money waiting for him back in the WWE... and the VIkings didn't have the time to teach a guy who was pushing 30 how to play football.
