Like college football.
Well they decided to let black people play so ... not quite as 'traditional'... and yet somehow we're all ok with it being thought of as 'traditional'.

Things change, just depends on what you choose to keep and not.

Can be traditional, and yet not for somethings.

I'm sure we could find someone objecting to these lyrics;

Minnesota, hats off to thee,
To thy colors true we shall ever be,
Firm and strong, united are we.
Rah! Rah! Rah! for Ski-U-Mah,
RAH! RAH! RAH! RAH!
Rah for the U. of M.
M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A!
Minnesota! Minnesota!
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah GOPHERS

I'm often thankful that Ski-U-Mah is a completely nonsensical possible past misunderstanding.

It's weird, it's unique... and man I'm glad it is not connected to anything.

Not the subject of the article, but reading that each member gets a $1000 scholarship makes me wish the Pride of Minnesota had the same financial support. They were able to give out some scholarships, but nothing of that nature.

They don’t have that good old oil money.

Isn't the story that the Ski-U part was overheard from Native American children playing a game? So didn't the U 'steal' from the Indians?? 😉🤣

If not caught...totally kidding here.

I predicted this thread would go off the rails, but it has been somewhat respectful up to now.

It helps that the choice here by Texas seems ... almost bonkers stupid, no matter what you think.

We can all hate on Texas a little together.

Also can all be happy we're not dealing with this kinda situation ourselves.

The racism isn't in the song lyrics itself, but in the history of it's creation and adaption.
While this could be true, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we could say this about just about every single facet of life in America today, if you really want to look hard enough, and maybe even tilt your head and squint a little bit. One big Rorschach test when you really get down to it

Tradition matters, and it’s always important to stand up to mob rule (especially when the mob is being as non-sensical as this group of non-thinkers are).

well, technically slavery was a tradition. It lasted from 246-400 years depending on your definition and who you ask in the US.

so how many slaves do you own if tradition is that important to you?

Clearly not saying much about Texas. I'm always shocked that a person of color would want to play football at a school that won't acknowledge racism as to action.
