Ed Conroy leader for Utah State job

Good for Conroy if he gets it. Would be a nice job for him.

Hope Robbins stays.

Go Gophers!!
Robbins can't go anywhere without sitting out. He used his free transfer. That's that.

Unless he applies for a new waiver. Silly if the NCAA grants it, but who knows.

Perhaps this is why Conroy hasn’t been announced as an Assistant Coach as that seemed like an easy hire for Ben. I agree with @Holy Man - this is fascinating. It would be interesting watching Pitino and Conroy go head to head each year.

I don't believe that's the case. The NCAA issued a blanket waiver for this past season, which allowed most transfers the opportunity to play right away. They vote in April to change the rule permanently, which would allow all D1 student athletes one free transfer to play right away.

Would not be surprised if the rule has language like "any student-athlete who has not already transferred from a four-year institution to another four-year institution ....".

Even if given a waiver to play right away, it's still a transfer between four-year schools (as opposed to transferring to/from a JUCO).

I could easily be wrong, we will see.

It's possible. We shall have to wait and see if they vote to approve it and what exactly is the language of the new rule.

The rule is already on the books and applies for all other sports than football and M/W bball.

It was always the intention to just "simplify" things and get out of the "waiver" business by making the rule consistent across all sports. That was my understanding.

I'd rather have Tim Miles than Conroy. Unless the Mountain West is beneath him.

This could be bad... Liam has ties to Wisconsin and Iowa and now both of their centers are in the portal. If Conroy leaves you gotta think he would as well.

And McHale left for HC at Eastern KY while under Pitino’s leadership.
He was already an assistant at New Mexico. Wonder if he's getting retained?

The most realistic scenario for next year is that we are going to be very bad and that Johnson is selling playing time and a brighter future to 2022 recruits.

I'd stay put if I am Liam Robbins. He is an integral part of whatever team BJ is putting together,

Good for Ed if he gets the job. Would love to keep him on the staff, but hope he gets the HC job.

See, people want to bash the U and say no one wants to coach here or that it is not a desirable basketball school. It is a fricking B1G school and that carries a lot of wait and respect throughout the country. Even a staff that many of your criticized, has coach that other schools want.
