Doubt it. They have to win first. That should have been priority. A second rate coach that was a 2nd rate player that played and coached at 2nd rate Universities isn't the type of guy that has instant recruiting success.
 






I’ve mentioned a friend of mine very intune to the AAU circles and he was adamant Ben Johnson was the coach Coyle needed to hire. Anything else would be a blunder. I’m really hoping he’s on to something!
 





Was getting myself excited about Smith. Will give Johnson the benefit of the doubt to start, but this is a bit of a head-scratcher.
 



Heartbreaking if true. Asking us to suck it up with an unproven guy. He took a job at a high quality Xavier program that has taken a dip since his arrival. Coyle must think that we’re idiots who will bow down to “one of us.” Maybe Coyle is on his way out and wanting to stick it to us before he goes.
 


I would guess that Coyle is going to demand that an experienced coach be on the bench, like Phil Martelli at Michigan. Tim Miles?

He has to do it in his first 2 years. Flat out.

Needs a 5 star signing out of the gate or this will get ugly fast.

What a reach. Seriously. I will support him, but this looks terrible IMO.

I am a big Coyle fan, but if this is true, I just lost a lot of respect for him. Is this just a diversity thing?

This is EXACCTLY what i was going to post...5 years under our just fired coach and was then an assistant at a very mediocre program. He helped land Amir Coffey and missed on all the other in state guys so where is the draw there?

This is beyond a reach.

Black has nothing to do with it, Ben Johnson can coach, people usually love the HE IS one of us MANTRA. I like Ben Johnson as a player, I don't understand the hate, head coaches have to start somewhere and XAVIER, is a good basketball school.
 


Quite a few high-major openings right now - Indiana, Marquette, UNLV, etc. I wonder where Minnesota sits on anyone's coaching wish list...

Sounds more like he's on something. Tell your friend to lay off the pipe.
