-hearing Emily LaChapell top two schools are Utah and Iowa State but no public list

-heard rumors Amaya Battle has a finalist list but unknown how many are on it or what schools are on it as it is not posted or confirmed anywhere
 

You know what I love about the 3 that are committed? They just announced. Didn’t mess around with announcing finalists. Also listened to a Braun interview where she said “With respect for the other coaches recruiting me, I wanted to let them know as well”. That’s very mature to do in this era of making a decision long and drawn out.
 


Ok question? Amber Scalia? I saw she hit 6 3s the other night. Is she good enough to play at a D1 level?

Amber is a really nice scorer. When you watch her play, she actually looks like Sara out there with quick movements, quick trigger on 3s and strong drives to the basket. However, where is Sara is about 5'11-6'0 range, Amber is about 5'7, maybe 5'8 so would be an undersized 2-guard. She is projected as a low mid major, or high D2 level player at this time.

They might have 1 2022 scholarship left, not sure.. 2022 class is getting to big, we'll be stuck in we're young mode forever. Might be saving it for Amaya Battle, but getting the feeling she is looking elsewhere.
I think next year they need to look at that transfer portal or grad player for the front line.

They do have one left according to rumblings. My guess is they will either save it, or take Amaya Battle with it.

Also Brianna McDaniel, 5’10 G, Kenwood Academy (IL) ESPN Ranked #30, is set to announce her top 5 on Thursday.

So now they're not supposed to try and keep the top talent in the state home?

First of all, can someone remind him Hubbard will be gone and Scalia and Powell will be seniors by the time 2022s get on campus.

Second, if he would ever stop finding new ways to complain about Whalen and the staff and got out and watched these recruits, he would see that Braun and Battle can play the 1,2 and in small ball 3. As Freshman they could learn behind Powell or even play with her. Both are 5'10-6'0 range so taller guard.

Also if they are lucky enough to get Battle, Gophers will have secured 4 of the top 6 in the state of Minnesota for Class of 2022. Isn't that a good thing?!

Its quite clear if you handle the ball, your a guard these days and most teams including us will have 3 guards on the floor all the time, you just have to because shooting the 3 is such a weapon, you cant have a lot of 4's and 5s on the floor at once because a lot cant defend the pick n roll 3, or cant close out fast enough.
Battle isnt a true point guard, she is a playmaker, so I could see her at the 2 and 3 especially if Borowicz is in the game.
If Sconniers keeps developing (has to work on her agility and strength) and Kadi develops her overall game to be more consistent, this team can be special. I think Borowicz will be able to run the offense better at the PG position, but Jazz will always be a more dynamic scorer and MN runs an offense that favors the PG always getting the first look to shoot..
 

Battle isn’t even on my radar for going to Minnesota. I would honestly rather take someone who wouldn’t play the minutes of Battle, but really wants to be a Gopher. Unless Battle really wants to be a Gopher, but if that was the case I believe she would have committed.

Who says Battle doesn't want to be a Gopher? Multiple different people have confirmed she is SERIOUSLY considering the Gophers. Why would she if she didn't want to be a Gopher? And why would she rush? each recruit has their own timeline to commit. Each of the three that committed in 2022 did it when they knew or when it was the right time. Amaya isn't the type of person who needs attention so we don't see a posted top 5 or other. She goes about her recruiting on her time. If Whalen and Staff have told her that she has a spot waiting, what's the harm in her looking at options, looking into these programs and making sure she is picking the right one for her? That would mean less likely to transfer if she knows exactly what Minnesota has to offer positive and negative. Gophers 2022 class if going to be strong with or without Battle, so I don't see in harm in her taking her time to make sure she picks the right now and waiting doesn't mean she is not interested.
 

I hope I’m wrong. I hope we get a Hopkins kid, and I hope does indeed become a Gopher. I just don’t have a lot of hope.
 

I don't see where we would have an extra scholarship unless somebody transfers!

In normal years I would agree, why rush - a 2022 kid could make the decision during her AAU Jr year, but.... this not a normal year. Granting an extra year eligibility to current players squeezes the number of available scholarships, and some schools realize the kid they were recruiting, they no longer have room for. My guess the gophs are saving that last open spot for her, if not, they will carry it over in 2023.

"I was very familiar with her, just watching her play with Maya Moore and the Lynx. How she was a gritty player on the court as a point guard and knowing I could learn a lot from her."

GS: As a fellow point guard, did that make you want to play for her more knowing that she had been so successful in the WNBA?
AS: "Yeah, because I know that she's been there so she can help me get to where I want to be on the court and off the court. I knew that with her being a point guard she could help me develop my game more."

Yeah, Whalen can help your game by recruiting over you. It’s not just Whalen doing it. They all do it. A big problem with Whalen is apparently she can only effectively recruit PG’s.

Can anybody make a depth chart of what the team will look like in fall of 2022 if all the current commits stay committed and all the current players don’t transfer until then (unrealistic).

"recruiting over you?" "A big problem?" the 2022 class are all ranked in the top 5 or 6 in MN and none are PG's. Sconniers has a chance to be real good and Kadi has a chance to be elite, the coaches will need to develop and mold each of them including the bigs not playing yet
Alexia came to MN as a PG, but I dont think you will really see her there much just because she is more suited as a physical 3. As i have said before just because you are a PG in HS dosen't mean you are a PG in college, unless your talking about a kid like Borowitz, she is a true PG, so I don't see it as recruiting over somebody. Every kid on a power 5 school has to compete to keep their spot, and if you didnt sign up for that, then you were mislead.

I haven’t given up on the younger Scalia yet. She is having a good season. Always can use sharp shooters. Does Whalen take walk ons?

The junior has been a consistent scoring threat all season. The future Gophers forward had 29 points in an 85-55 victory over Chanhassen and 31 points in 72-33 rout of St. Louis Park. She has scored fewer than 20 points only once in 10 games.

Ayanna Patterson will make her college decision on March 20th, and her final five are

-UConn
-Louisville
-Indiana
-Notre Dame
-UCLA

As stated, probably a pretty good chance for Gophers remaining 2022, its Amaya Battle or no one

Scholarships are low, LaChapell is a nice player but shes not a cant miss prospect. Smith is another small pg and thats not a need either. I dont know if its Battle or no one but Id imagine the pool of remaining 22 targets is really small.
