Doogie: Coyle knows this can't go on. They (Coyle and Pitino) met on Friday.

I dont know why these reporters keep bringing up the buyout, Coyle has it under control. These guys need better sources.
Because it gets clicks, which is what reporters trade in now. You can believe there will be op-eds, calls into radio shows, etc. after he gets bought out because people will be up in arms because the dumbasses think it comes from their tax dollars, or that they’ll have to jack up tuition to do it. Doogie is just pandering to the morons in the crowd to help get them riled up.

I don’t think it’s news that they met on Friday. I would assume they see each other pretty much every week.

Now if Doogie was saying they talked about Pitino’s future on Friday, that would be news.

I would offer the loudest discontent will come from those who don’t understand Richard isn’t paid by the taxpayers, but instead an independent athletic department.

Well, in addition, they don't seem to understand that we live in a society where highly paid professionals like executives and coaches have contracts that give them nice cushions if they fail and are fired. Regular folks don't get that. It is what it is.

We also live in a society where big time sports are tied to universities. The rest of the world doesn't follow that model. This is the system we chose to have and if we want to be a player in that system, payouts like this (or more) are inevitable.

Sadly that's a lot of people. They also believed they paid Joe Mauer'a salary.
We'll those people did pay gate money, paid for over priced concessions, contributed to advertising money earned so yeah they did contribute to payroll in someway

The vast majority of those people will be the most in favor of firing Pitino.

Would think any good AD has a standing weekly meeting with each head coach to do a "check in/state of the program" update, at least.

There is a more than 0% chance that Doogie himself understands none of this.

He literally always has done this and why I cant stand him. He will choose the most incoherent of replies to quote and respond to on twitter, then it is like some kind of justification for his take, because he owned the dumbest guy on the thread.

Facts no longer matter. 🤥

The handwriting is on the wall and has been for awhile imo.

Even as Doogie was talking about how they couldn't afford to let Pitino go, it was obvious the team (and the overall program) was imploding and Richard had no clue how to fix it.

The only question is how the hiring process will play out. If there's one thing Coyle has proven when looking for coaches, it's that he's ambitious and decisive, something that was lacking the last time around to the point of settling for Pitino in the first place.

I'll trust his judgment and will wait to see where it all leads.

But, yeah, I have a feeling Coyle has been working things pretty hard behind the scenes if his previous history regarding coach searches is any indication.

Excited to see how it plays out, especially with Coyle leading the process this time around.
