Ok a couple of things why the Longhorns won't get CoJo...

1. Barnes has done way less with more than any other coach in the ncaa (don't know this for sure but I'm pretty sure the Longhorns are made up of pretty much all 5 and 4 star recruits with the occasional 3 star recruit). And if you haven't noticed, their season wasn't all that much better if at all than ours.

2. Cory would have to earn his starting spot. Ok I'm not saying that Tubby has assured Cory the starting spot, because no coach should guarantee any playing time before he arrives on campus. But I am saying if you ask gopher fans if CoJo would start 100% would say that he would start and maybe 50% of Longhorns fans would say that he would start at Texas. Look at their depth at point and the 2 and look at ours. They have much much more depth than we do.

3. Texas isn't necessarily a better team than we are. Especially if Bradley goes pro.

4. He has his 2 best friends here: his blood brother Devoe and his other brother Mo. I think ESPN and I read on one of GH's forums that he also has really good friends at Texas, but he doesn't have brothers at Texas.

5. Texas' program is on the decline (they were #1 in the nation last year I think at some point and ended up being a 8 or 9 seed i think). And the gophers program is definitely on the rise.

6. I don't personally know his family, but an educated guess would be that they would want him in MN. His brother plays here, if you were his mom wouldn't you want him playing with his brother?

7. Many more reasons why MN is a good place for Cory and not just necesarrily why it's better than Texas who claims they have Cory is here: http://www.forums.gopherhole.com/boards/showthread.php?t=17272

I don't know of one single Longhorn fan that thinks we have Cory Joseph "in the bag."

So, while I'm sure your effort in compiling this post was commendable, it's really not appropriate. But, hey... if it makes you feel better, more power to you.

Well, I'm bored so I decided just for grins to respond to your points.

1. Last season was very rough to experience as a Texas fan. The team seemingly imploded. But that doesn't change the fact that in Barnes' 12 seasons at Texas he has led his team to the NCAA tournament in EVERY season he's coached. He's also got a nice streak of 11 20-win seasons.

2. I'd hope Cory would have to earn his starting spot anywhere, but to state that 50% of Texas fans would think he wouldn't be able to start at Texas is just COMPLETE bull. You are pulling stuff out of your rear end throwing it up on the wall, and hoping it sticks. You are way off base and out of touch with the Texas fan base.

3. You contradict yourself here. "Texas isn't a better team", but we are made of mostly 4 or 5 star players? Make up your mind. Either Texas has better talent overall or they don't. Texas just needs a legit PG to bring it all together.

4. Tristan Thompson is going to Texas, so yeah as you've said he has a friend there as well. But Minnesota may have the advantage here since it would be easier for the family as a whole to attend one school's games than two.

5. One bad season where we lose two PGs and our team implodes means we are on the decline? Okay, whatever you say Sir. This is another point you try to make to make yourself feel better. It's not necessarily true, but you wish it to be. Ah, to be that desperate. I pity you.

6. You already covered this in #4. Maybe repeating it again makes you feel better. I'm guessing it does.

7. "blah, blah, blah. second verse, same as the 1st."

Most of your points are redundant and/or contradictory. Congrats. After last season it would be easy for me to buy into the Barnes does less with more line of thinking, but then I realize that he's one of a very few select group of coaches that continually gets his team to the NCAA tournament each and every year, and hasn't won less than 20 games in over a decade.

But like I said, I don't know a single Texas fan that thinks Cory is "in the bag" so this whole argument is moot.

But I am enjoying the pitiful "open letters" to Cory Joseph. How pathetic can some of you be? You people seriously think that you are shedding new light on a subject that this kid has thought about for quite a while now? Do you honestly think that your love letter will sway his decision?

Maybe it's just that all of the disappointing years as a Minnesota sports fan are getting to me, but personally I do think Texas has him in the bag.

Really hope I'm wrong but I'm not expecting anything.

Cory may in fact go to Texas, I sure have no idea. I will remind you that right up until the moment Devoe said, "I am going to Minnesota", the consensus was he was going to Texas.

Just saying...

And this is also completely untrue. I don't know how many times I've read this statement on this board, but NEWSFLASH PEOPLE, Devoe was never offered by Texas. So please, give this line of thinking a rest.

god forbid there be any optimism on another team's board!

I'm all for optimism. If Joseph doesn't end up at Texas, I hope he ends up at Minnesota. I just can't stand people that are completely incorrect on subjects and assert things as truths when they are not. It's really not that hard to know what you are talking about, but apparently a lot of people around here are great at talking about things they have no clue about.

Please answer this question. How is correcting someone being against optimism? I'd really like to know.

If you are responding to my criticisms of the open letters, then fine. You can call it optimism if you like. I call it desperate and pathetic.

lol Texas fans. Rick Barnes is so overrated as a coach, ill give it to him that he is a great recruiter, but just because 11 tournement seasons in a row doesnt mean he is a great coach, just that he has great players. i mean christ look at this year. espn's #1 recruit and a 9 seed? we lost our starting pg, lost our best 2 players (assuming they would be, we dont know yet) lost our team motivater in paul carter, lost a role player/senior bostick at the beginning, had countless offcourt distractions, and we go on to be an 11 seed beating butler by 9, Mich state, Ohio state, wisconsin by 16, purdue ( sweet 16) by like 20 in the big ten tourney, and oh yea, our coach has 17 consecutive 20 win seasons and a natl championship. just becasue sports writers hype up your team doesnt mean the Texas program is anything special, not saying the gophs are, but at least we'll admit it.

Oh and you can get out of our message board. None of us try to join Texas boards, because we dont care about texas, but you joining ours makes you look like you care about the gophers, so you might as well just admit were a better team because youre more interested in our boards then your own.

Did you have any response whatsoever to the post you quoted? Nope. Didn't think so.

No but if thats your response to mine you lost the arguement. Done deal sir.

Just stop you guys. You are being 100000x more hostile than uncensored is being. Is he not allowed to voice his opinion if it doesn't go in our favor?

Did you have any response whatsoever to the post you quoted? Nope. Didn't think so.

I mean im just trashing your program and all you can say is that while I was trashing your program the quote didn't match what i said? Ok so? It wasn't about what you said im just telling you Texas basketball is overrated and would get stomped if they ever came to the barn. I mean just destroyed, cory or no cory.

Whatever you believe, I'm not more interested in your boards than Texas boards. With notable exceptions, it seems like a majority of Gopher fans are cynical losers that just enjoy hearing each other piss and moan about "how tough it is to be a Gopher fan." It's sad and pathetic. I rarely visit or post here because if I wanted to listen to a bunch of babies crying for various reasons I'd go the newborn unit at the local hospital.

And as far as leaving, no thanks. I think I'll stay. I didn't just recently join the forum to talk basketball. I'm more of a football fan, and I'm interested to see if Brewster can pull off his attempt at rebuilding the Minnesota program. And I appreciate Nadine's excellent free recruiting content. I spend more time on the football board and have had a decent experience there from time to time.

I also plan on making the trip up to Minnesota to see your beautiful new stadium when Texas comes to town. I plan to take a dip in the cleansing waters of Lake Minnetonka, and if I make a few friends via the message board to have some beers with while tailgating that weekend, I think that'd be a real good time to have.

So like I said, I think I'll stay. I'm sorry I won't leave so that some of you Gopher fans can mouth off about things and not having your completely incorrect takes challenged. My apologies to you. But I guess you can't win 'em all, eh?

Dude,

You are an easy read. I'd love to play poker with you.

You realize pretending you like the Gophers and then shrieking on about Texas and attacking anything positive on our board reveals you to be what you are...

A Texas-sized Troll.

There's no need to refute your B.S. arguments because they're not really arguments. You're here to raise the dust. Some little twisted place inside you gets off on causing pain. Go pull the wings off a fly or however you spent your time before you came here.

I'm sorry, I thought Texas beat you last season in the tourney. And I guess it's better to be overrated than not really rated at all.

Hey buddy, I'm down for poker anytime. Just got back from Vegas on Monday and double my bank roll in about six hours of play. I don't really like playing online, so maybe when I visit for the Texas football game we can play.

I haven't pretended to be anything I'm not. Numerous times on this board I've said I'm a Texas fan. But I did join the board to follow what Brewster is doing with the football program. Sue me for being interested in teams other than my own.

And please point out where I've attacked anything "positive" on this board. I've just corrected some people that keep reiterating that Devoe chose Minnesota over Texas. He didn't. End of story. Don't get so upset about being wrong.

Troll? Nope. Not really. Sorry to disappoint you. I know how badly you want to be right, but you are wrong.

And as I've already said, I'm not here to stir the pot or "raise dust". I just make corrections when people post things that aren't true and offer a different perspective. If you can't appreciate that, I'm sorry.

Or maybe when the cowboys got destroyed in the playoffs by the vikes? :D And then Keith Brooking complained about how our offense was too good for him and we ran up the score?

Remember when Texas football lost in the national chamionship? :D

I do, but for the life of me I can't remember the last time Minnesota...Wait, you know what? I can't do it. I've become a fan of the Golden Gophers' football team, so I won't trash the program. I'm really pulling for y'all next season and I think the young talent maybe start to produce better results.

And as I've said before, if Joseph doesn't end up at Texas I hope he plays with his brother as a Gopher.

6 national championships and 18 conferece titles. If you were a gopher fan youd know that.

I hate to disappoint you again, but I'm not a Cowboys fan. I can't stand the owner and I won't support any team he puts on the field. I grew up idolizing Brett Farve and was pulling for him to win it all last season. And for the record, Keith Brooking is a busch league loser.

But hey, nice try. I'm sure you'll think of something else in an attempt to tick me off, but I'm not counting on you being successful.

6 national championships and 18 conferece titles. If you were a gopher fan youd know that.

I know of the Gopher's past success. But again, you won't be successful in trying to get me to talk crap about your football program, or your basketball program. Sorry.

Actually your reasoning makes absolutely no sense!! 4-5 star players equals a better team?!?. 4-5 star players does not go hand in hand with having a better team. I'm sure i could find plenty of teams that had a better season than your longhorns, that are not made up of 4-5 star recruits.

My reasoning is that it takes a legit PG at Texas to pull all of those things together to make a better team. So in the case that Texas doesn't have a legit PG right now, you are right. Minnesota may have the better team. A slew of 4 and 5 star players has much better potential to be a better team, but it's contingent upon having a legit PG to run the show.

Point, Gopherfan3.

Ok... let's look at you...

"...But, hey... if it makes you feel better, more power to you..."

"...This is another point you try to make to make yourself feel better. It's not necessarily true, but you wish it to be. Ah, to be that desperate. I pity you..."

See a pattern?

I sure do.

And you want to have a beer. You sound like a passive-agressive a$$hole, and you want to hang out?

Show some respect. I'm all for talking trash about teams/programs but you're one of those twisted @$#$ that likes to be snide.

So, no beers?

I respect well thought out and accurate posts. Not desperately wishing things to be true to benefit your homer view posts, and pathetic "open letters" to 17 and 18 year old kids. Sorry.

Texas Message Boards

I sometimes read the Texas message boards (free ones) and I don't get the impression that most of the fans think Cory is a lock to come to Texas.

However, the media has decided that Cory will most likely go to Texas. The Jordan Brand announcers made it sound like Texas was the only school still actively recruiting Cory (Tristan + Cory - how can he pass that up). Of course, this is an easy story and doesn't require the hours, days and months we have spent trying to figure out where Cory will go.

Still think Cory will play with Devoe, but Tristan was amazing. I can see why Cory would want to play with him (friend or no friend).

You should grab a thesaurus and learn some other words besides "desperate" and "pathetic". You wouldn't sound quite as repetitive.

You respect well thought out posts? Well, write one then! You're terrible.

I suggest to you a couple of things-
1. Therapy(though I don't have a lot of hope for you)
2. Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style" ... your writing, well, needs it...
3. To actually read many of the accurate and well thought posts on this board. Selection Sunday and Gopher Lady are great. JohnnyGopher, others...

I'm sorry that you don't have friends in Texas, but cruising for them on a MN fan board may not be the best place to find them. Done wasting my time with you. Best of luck...
