[POST GAME THREAD] Iowa defeats Minnesota 35 - 7

Some quick hitters:

- The lack of creativity on offense was entirely predictable and hard to watch, though Iowa’s defense is really, really good
- Morgan has struggled to work past his first read at times and that struggle was very apparent tonight
- everyone has focused on the awful linebacker player this year, but they aren’t getting much help from the defensive line

Fire PJ, the Offensive Coordinator, and some of these terrible defensive players too.

The term TNTC comes to mind. In microbiology it stands for too numerous to count.

Outcoached... I got a report from someone at the game, Sanford is still running Mo, even thought the game is over.

Running the ball on 3rd and 6 deep in Iowa’s territory down 14 late in the 3rd quarter was one of the most bizarre calls ever. There can be no legitimate reason to do that. It wasn’t like the Gophers were breaking big runs the whole game.

9 starters from last years offense, 9! Like you promoted Rossi, I hope you figure out promoting Simon and getting rid of Sanford a lot quicker Fleck. Sanford couldn’t hold Simon’s jock when it comes to play calling.

I think they were considering it 4 down territory. Get 3-4 yards and go for it on 4th to get the last two.

Still a bad call, but I bet that's what they were thinking.

Why would a tight end go to Minnesota? I hate Ferentz but even his boring offense has some variation. I’m not sure why PJ gets psyched out against IA year after year.

Starting to agree with this assessment. In fairness to Sanford he didn't have the typical off season to get his playbook in and work with the players but as good as Iowa may be on defense they should not have been able to shut out our offense (not counting a garbage TD at the end).

This one is 100% on the offense. Defense held Iowa to 14 in the first half, offense has to do something/anything to help them out.

How is that possible when they lost Tyler Johnson, Faalele, and Dunlop?
Seems like you are conveniently exaggerating.

Mo has 131 carries in 4 games. He’s got to be getting a little beat up(?). It is “pair and a spare” for many reasons, one being to keep your lead dog’s legs fresh and not maximize the dings he takes each game. If we are going to run an uncreative offense, maybe switching up the backs once in a while (like Iowa did) will give the opposing defense something to think about just because of different running styles, speed, etc. Really was no reason to be running Mo over and over when down 35-0 with five minutes to go. They put Brown-Stephens (fresh) at WR near the end and it went fine. If this is the year of no rotation at RB, and 33-35 runs a game, and no bye weeks, Mo will be a shell of himself by season’s end.

These kind of performances are simply inexcusable. And the team has had three of them in four games.

The entire organization is a mess, from the coaching to the players.

Fleck and his staff are doing a poor job. His players are doing a poor job. The team is simply bad and is very likely going to stay bad the rest of the way.

So the ball is now in the coach's court.

If you truly want to be "elite", better start "changing your best" because the team's "best" right now is downright pitiful.

I wouldn't necessarily say Rossi is working out though. I like the Simon to O-Coordinator move to make a change, but I do not like anything about the defense in year 4.

We basically had 12 starters last year if you count the 6 along the o-line. There is too much returning talent on offense though to get shut out by Iowa at home.

If you plan on going for it on 4th down I can buy running the ball if it was 3rd and 3 or 4. Not on 3rd and 6.

Dunlap was subbed in for towards the end of the year and Faalele didn’t play when we beat Auburn. Same guys vs Auburn minus Tyler Johnson and Dunlap.

Top to bottom debacle of a game.
tonight was the point where it became impossible to care about this season at all so that’s kind of nice I guess.

Honestly even with it being 4th and 6 they needed to go for it, a fg does nothing there. Just a weak call by pj. They were on a 10 minute drive down 14 basically at the end of the 3rd q. PJ needs to quit being so dang conservative.

14-0 near the end of the 3rd quarter tonight, this offense should be able to score 28 points vs Iowa, and last year was at Iowa, a night game, and a full house coming off the biggest win in 50 years?

Zero creativity and way too much flapping and staring at the sidelines. Install Simon please.

Yeah, this one is on the offense not the defense. Defense did enough to keep the team in the game and they did it without a couple of starters as well. They played much better then the score would indicate.
