After last year I thought Morgan had a chance to be the best QB in Gopher history and had a real chance at the Pro level. I compared him to Brees throwing darts for Purdue and killing the Gophers. That has faded a bit. Mental part is very strong but I am not as sure of physical.

I see some inconsistencies this year but he’s still making some nice plays. That little toss he made to Mo while being sacked was a heady play. But, he’s been throwing high on the intermediate passes and a hair short on his deep throws. He’ll figure it out.

  • Will still finish as the best QB in Minnesota history.
  • Has looked increasingly good each week, and I expect that to continue as the staff gets on the same page with gameplan/playcalling.
  • Made 3 or 4 pretty bad throws yesterday, but he delivered many more absolute strikes. He's so freaking good. This throw at 2:16 is something we've rarely seen at Minnesota. The read, step up in pocket, throw into an NFL window with 3 defenders nearby:
  • If you don't count Mertz's one game, Morgan's QB rating is 4th in the B1G (Fields, O'Connell, Tagovailoa).

Don't forget that Ciarrocca would keep 7, sometimes 8 (!!) blockers in to pass-pro for Morgan.

When you have all the time in the world, Bateman is eventually going to get open. Then you just have to hit him.

Morgan has been pressured far more this season, so far.

Morgan is clearly one of the best not only here in Minnesota but also in the nation. When things are at 95% success rate, funny how we get critical.

Morgan's issue has been a porous offensive line. We are clearly much better at run blocking than pass blocking. And that leads to mistakes for any quarterback. That's exactly what happened to the kid from Illinois yesterday. He got beat up, emotional and started making big mental mistakes.

Tanner looks like the same qb to me. He just needs more time in the pocket.

Morgan is a poor man's Kirk Cousins. If he makes the NFL he will be a backup. Being a backup would get him a nice basic salary. I am simply thankful we have a serviceable quarterback at UMN. That has not always been the case.

Yes, he improved from week one and two. He's a baller. The flip to Mo was sweet.

On the scrum TD, I think Bateman comes in right at the end to help one of the linemen up...ELITE.

Our RPOs are typically front side reads.
Teams this year have been sending backside pressure from an unaccounted for guy in the scheme.

we have to adjust to this. When we do Morgan will play with confidence again.

He's still completing 62% of passes this year, including quite a few bad drops from recievers ( both interceptions came in garbage time too ) There really hasn't been a ton of bad throws. And you have to remember this isn't quite the same OLine Pass protect he got last year.

I'll buy that. You can tell he just looks a bit less comfortable in the pocket so far this season. I would also say that with no spring and no non-conference, Tanner is having to do his annual adjustment process right out of the gate against Big Ten competition. Although Tanner was various degrees of good for almost all of last year, he wasn't the ridiculously efficient passer at the beginning of 2019 season that he displayed once conference season kicked in.

Change in QB coach. Sanford just isn't good at what he does. Was a miss-hire

Yes, to all. That busted play was great especially what Mo was able to do after he caught the ball.

He’s not playing as well as last year thus far. He is still playing well and not a concern of
mine.

Just making it to a pro football is a very impressive accomplishment.

Love his leadership skills and think his accuracy will continue to improve. Just heard on the Vikings broadcast that Chase Daniels has made 47 million as a back up QB. I bet Tanner would be OK with that and hope he continues to develop his game.

Morgan should end up with at least comparable college stats (very likely better) to the Purple's current starting QB. Think about that...

Who was the last gopher qb that was rumored to be an NFL first rounder.

High probability he ends up with better college stats than Cousins, so probably not a good analogy.

The two o-line guys out was a pretty big factor to start. Callahan has the O-line getting better each week and Tanner is too!

CAB as number three and Demetrious Douglas as a fourth option was nice. This year Daniel Jackson and Seth or Clay for 3 and 4?

Tyler made some great catches to help Tanner, commanded some double teams to help Rashod.

In addition to losing Faalele and Duncan, maybe Mo not as good in pass pro? Was Rodney or Shannon featured in passing downs?

Ko has missed last two games, is he best blocking TE?

Do you think UMN does better than MSU when Cousins was there?
I compare Morgan to Cousins mainly because they lack mobility, but they are accurate passers.

If next year is 10-11 wins, yes.

Didn't MSU win the B1G at least once when Cousins was QB? Very doubtful MN ever wins the B1G with Morgan as QB.
When he started they had a .500 year and two 11 win seasons. 7-1 B1G. He doesn't need that for my comparison. 10-11 wins next year works.

Backup QB in the NFL is the sweetest gig in the world. You get paid millions to stand on the sidelines and not get hit. Obviously not a dream for the players as I am sure they all want to get out there but I can think of far worse ways to make a living.

As for Morgan, tough to say how he will do at the next level. He doesn't have the measurables teams crave and he doesn't have the mobility that seems to be trending again in the NFL in recent years for the QB position. In the end though could care less about his prospects at the next level, just glad he is our QB and can't honestly believe that we have a thread questioning Morgan and Bateman (two of the best ever at their positions in U of M history) floating around on gopherhole.

Chase Daniel is a backup and has made $47 million. I’d take that.

2010 and 2011 were Kirk's big years at MSU. Both years they finished runner-up to Wisconsin, who went to the Rose Bowl both years and lost both years (boo hoo).

2010 - 11-1 in the regular season, including a win over JJ Watt's Badgers. But a stupid loss at Iowa cost them the Rose Bowl, even though they had the head-to-head over Wisc. Lost bowl game badly to Alabama.

2011 - 10-2 in the regular season, including a win over Russel Wilson's Badgers. Rematch in the first Big Ten Championship game, where they lost. Won the bowl game over Georgia.
