Better off without getting waiver and redshirt year?

I'll admit I haven't fully thought out all of the possibilities on this, but would we be better off with Robbins and Gach not getting waivers? If there is no season (which is a possibility) we would be burning a year of eligibility if they get the waiver approved. I don't know their specific situations regarding whether they have used their redshirt year yet.

Which brings me to another question: If there is no season can everyone who has not taken a redshirt year use it this season?

If there is no season I don’t believe they will burn eligibility. The NCAA has basically already said that if you play less than half of the allowable games due to Covid you won’t lose eligibility

Nah, getting waivers can only be a positive. There’s no reason the NCAA would force players to burn a year of competition eligibility if they still have a red shirt year available. If anything, they’d be granting sixth years to players who have red shirted and don’t get to play this year due to the season being canceled.

Like Some Guy said, if the season gets cancelled or cancelled short (say they start up and then call it off before half-way), then it won’t count as one of the four seasons. Effectively the same thing as sitting the season out.

As far as the clock goes (calendar years), they could just give every player a sixth year.

The tricky, sticky thing will then be, what to do with all these extra players. Will they allow expanded rosters and scholarships? The cheap, easy, cheesy thing to do would be to simply say “sorry, nope”. Then you’re going to be squeezing out a bunch of players somewhere.

My opinion on how to take care of it: allow any player in their sixth or later year of eligibility to not count against roster limits or scholarship limits *IF* they’ve earned an undergrad degree.

Too easy, too good. Won’t happen.

Not correct. Coyle said softball players could come back. He just wouldn’t increase the scholarship limit.
