Maybe instead of telling us they want to be part of the Big 10, they should let Frosty know. Like "Hey Scott, FYI, if you give us an ultimatum, your going to need to get your resume in order."
 

Damn! Thought this could be a once in a multi-generation opportunity to rectify a terrible mistake.

Instead, we will be subsidizing Nebraska football for the next 50 years, the exact same way we subsidize Illinois football. Of course, we all know their men's bball team isn't worth a crap.

A guy like Frost attaches 100% of conference alignment with athletics and 90% of that football, there is more to it than athletics as the close to 400 faculty members will attest, when all is said and done the model is still based on student athletes. As long as you are supporting the bulk of an athletic program on one sport you are going to have problems, it's not just changing football it's changing collegiate athletics as a whole, make non revenue sports part of student fees. I'm guessing many would disappear but I really don't see that as a huge problem

Right. It’s about reputation. Being able to say “I’m a faculty at a Big Ten school” has a much nicer sound than saying “I’m a faculty at a school that’s academically the same thing as North Dakota State, but with larger sports stadiums”.
 

If the money in the Big !2 was close to the BTN's and TX and OK did not have their own networks NE would have left and the faculty could suck eggs.
A Lincoln sports writer summed up the rationale for NE playing and it simply was fear that their some of players and recruits have no interest in spending the year in Lincoln in the classroom if there is no football and will bail on them.

The bigger issue is the 300 million the city of Lincoln’s economy is expected to lose as a result. A lot of downtown businesses will close as a result and a lot of people out of work.

Is that any different than Iowa City, Champaign, West Lafayette, even Madison?

Everyone’s going through the same one year of crap. Nebraska needs to do much less whining, and more shutting the hell up.

sounds like solid advice for you to take. I have no issue with any school not wanting to bankrupt their communities. I’m okay with schools trying to survive when it doesn’t hurt anyone else or another school. It is also okay to question the decision makers when for instance Kevin Warren says we can’t play but his son at Mississippi State can. Or when Michigan State says it isn’t safe for football, but intramurals, no problem.

Warren didn’t make any decision. The Big Ten presidents and boards did. His job is to be the public front, of their decision.

Shouldn't be difficult for you to understand that.

Wouldn't this still happen even if they were playing? Unless they were still planning on filling their stadium with fans?

I'm assuming that number is based on having a packed football stadium every week? Even if they were to play this year, it is highly unlikely they would have anything close to a full stadium. Here in Mpls, it was going to be 1500 max.

I think cancelling football is very much a mistake and will not help prevent the spread of Covid in any way. However, the hit to the local economy is not a valid grievance.

nope. The downtown area bars and streets out side of them would have been packed. It would have significantly limited the economic damage to the city. The people going into the stadium on a game day is only a percentage of people who go downtown and spend money before and after games.

The decision has been made,
Pissing and moaning on this site or any other place is not going to change anything.
The pandemic has ruined or damaged the economy everywhere.
Unless you have magic dust to spread around to kill the virus quit whining, wear a mask and avoid crowds and wait until after the first of the year for a vaccine and get an influenza shot.
