All Things "Top 5" Thread (Movies, TV Shows, Cities, Countries, Actors, Beers, Restaurants, Athletes, Sporting Events etc.)

Ok, we watched Spirit last night. Good movie, but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as you did. And I certainly don't think it's anywhere near Zimmer's best work -- Backdraft is still my #1.

I do have a minor quibble with the opening monologue that maybe soiled the rest of the movie for me. Mustangs are basically feral horses and an invasive species introduced by European settlers. So I have to disagree with Matt that they "always belong here". Sorry to go all woke on your movie...
In fairness, even the "Native Americans" were migrants long, long ago.

Top 5 Comedy TV Show Characters:

1. Cosmo Kramer
2. Ron Swanson
3. Dwight Schrute
4. Michael Scott
5. Cliff Clavin

Go Gophers!!

I will counter with:

1. Ted Baxter
2. Coach Ernie Pantusso
3. Susie Green
4. Arthur Fonzarelli
5. Artie the Producer on Larry Sanders

If the HBO show Barry sticks around, I will have to add NoHo Hank.

You guys and your omission of Jim Ignatowski

I did think of Iggy, also Louie. The scene where he is taking his driving test is about as good as it gets.

Jim -"What does a yellow light mean?"
Bobby (whispers) - "Slow down."
Jim - "Ok, whaaat....does...a...yellow...light...mean?"

Great choice with NoHo Hank.

I am going to go negative, 5 iconic songs I loathe by artists I really like:

1. One - U2
2. Everybody Hurts - REM
3. Zamboni - The Gear Daddies
4. Yellow Submarine - The Beatles
5. Glory Days - Springsteen

For Glory Days, c'mom Bruce what the heck is a "speed ball"? If that's changed to "fast ball", probably not on the list. Also, I would have added "When the Doves Cry", but I am not that huge of a Prince fan.

I am a huge Springsteen fan, and I would say hands-down that I dislike "Dancing in the Dark" far more than "Glory Days." The video with Courtney Cox just bugged me, because it was so obviously staged.

Dylan would be a separate category here, because he has had some real clunkers over the years - the whole "born-again Christian" period produced some real dreck.

Glory Days, filmed at the St Paul Civic Center.

I am with you on Dylan's born-again period, but for the purposes of this list I don't think any of those songs would be termed "iconic". For Bob, Just Like a Woman and Maggie's Farm are not favorites of mine, but don't reach the "loathe" status, at least not like the ones I listed.

I like this idea:

REM: Stand. My roommates in college used this song against me when claiming REM sucked.
U2: The Miracle (of Joey Ramone). A Bono slobbering song about someone cooler than he.
Beatles (my fav's of all-time): Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Paul at his worst which was very rare.
Radiohead: Fake Plastic Trees. I don't know why, I just don't like it.
Replacements: Talent Show. Seemed obvious they were done being great after this album/song.

Stand vs Everybody Hurts was a tough call for me. I loathe the former much more, but the latter is of higher iconic standing. Quite a Sophie's Choice.

I'd pick The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite. I never got that song and feel it doesn't really fit on an otherwise near perfect album. A lot of fans like it. I don't get it.

Another one:

I love the Nirvana Unplugged album. It's amazing. "Where Did you Sleep Last Night?" is one of the greatest performances ever.

However, a lot of people love "The Man who Sold the World" from that album. It's probably my least favorite. I pretty much always skip it. Not a fan.

I love how that starts out, "This is off our first record, most people don't own it..."

Great passive/aggressive comment for MTV grunge wannabes. Felt cool, because I did own Bleach before Nevermind. Well sorta, I made a cassette copy of it from my cousin.

Me and my girlfriend are huge fans of TLC's 90 Day Fiance shows that grows and grows all the time. Mondays and Tuesdays will be spent this summer watching that. We also love the after show "Pillow Talk" with people from the past commentating on the current ones.

We watch online links of it cause if we wait for it to be on TLC here then a show from April would air in December and who watches linear tv in these times anyway?

Onto a top 5 then of other shows we love.

1. Animal Kingdom
2. Gomorrah
3. Yellowstone
4. Ozark
5. Vida

Near impossible to rank them but I just did.

Can I just mention that The Chi is a fantastic tv series and season 3 opened really well. But the N-word used like that and the derogatory comments about white people should at least make someone raise their eyebrow but I guess in these times some people have a bigger right than others.

Weird that they did not only a tv series but also a movie about the Atlanta olympic park bombing in the same year and both were really good.

Top 5 '90's Goddesses:

1. Liz Phair
2. Nina Persson
3. Dolores O'Riordan
4. Juliana Hatfield
5. Shirley Manson

Bonus one who is little known: Anna Waronker

Top 5 '90's One Hit Wonders:

1. Toadies: Possum Kingdom
2. Harvey Danger: Flagpole Sitta
3. Lit: My Own Worst Enemy
4. Elastica: Connection
5. Breeders: Cannonball

**Calling some of these one hit wonders is maybe not fair (the whole Elastica album is great, for example), but they were all very clearly known for the song listed.

So where are all the Teen Mom fans here?

I sure miss Jenelle who stole my heart away forever though she is now fat and getting her own show on Amazon. Will Amber ever find a guy that can handle her?

Drama!!!!

Between your list and WAG, I have to add Kim Deal, Tonya Donelly, Caitlan Cary, Jessy Greene & Karen Grotberg.

Throwbacks, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Carly Simon, Ronnie Specter & Darlene Love.

If you guys don't know Laura-Mary Carter, look her up. She rocks as much as anyone AND has the looks.

Jessy Greene lived above one of my oldest friends place in NE Mpls before she went on tour with the Foo Fighters I want to say. I have a good story if we ever meet about her "accent". I don't want to do it online.

I just heard Tonya Donelly on the radio a few minutes ago. She definitely deserves to be on any list.

Listening to Velocity Girl right now. I always liked Sarah Shannon. She's a dark horse pick.
