Gable Steveson, defensive end?

Trevor Laws.

Although, Steveson is a much more accomplished wrestler and has an Olympic future.

Did he play football in high school?

Remember when Lesnar tried to make the Vikings?

Yeah, he was remarkably close considering he hadn't played football in over a decade. If he didn't have considerably more lucrative opportunities elsewhere, he probably would have went to NFL Europe and likely carved out a role in the NFL.

He was an absolute freak athlete.

Mike Daniels was a highly accomplished high school wrestler before commiting to Iowa for football, and has made $44 million in his career as an NFL defensive tackle. Could be a lucrative career move for Gable if he decides to Row the Boat.

So he could take another wrestling year, win the NCAA championship, and then win the Olympics. After that, he could take a redshirt year with the Gophers and come back in 2022 as a red-shirt senior defensive end.

Don't wrestlers typically make good lineman (defensive and offensive)? - As they are trained in balance, leverage, etc. I would love to see him give it a go!

Yeh. That sounds right. Probably good hand / arm usage to fend off.

Lol, so he didn’t play in the NFL by choice? He was a terrible football player, the Vikings saw it and anyone who saw him play knew it. He was never taken seriously as a football prospect, ever.

I have total respect for collegiate wrestlers -- huge dedication to do what they do, and on the mat it's just them against one other person -- little the refs do to impact the outcome, it's a one-to-one competition involving strength, endurance, quickness, and strategy. Great sport. If he sticks only with wrestling, that's a win. If he does decide to give football a go, that's a double win. Hope he gives DE a try.

The problem is he can't just "try" it. If he shows up for a formal football practice, he either has to forgo any scholarship he has or they have to convert it to a football scholarship and either take one from a former walk-on or help someone figure out they want to transfer. I would be real surprised if they would do that for someone that is unlikely to want to have football as their primary sport.

Does this kick in when he shows up for a formal football practice, or does it kick in if he plays in a game? I thought it was the later, but I'm basically guessing. For example, a lot of times players from other sports will show up at another sport's practice, as a guest speaker, or just to watch.

They can watch but can't participate. I meant "show up" meaning show up to participate, but didn't say that. If they participate it becomes team related activity. I think there's a little leeway if someone throws him a pass for fun or he tries to take big Dan down on the field or comes out for one play or something, but if he's on the field running the same activities as the rest of the team, then he's now a football player who also wrestles.

Can’t say too much but I’d be watching for
Gable news after the Olympics are over...
He already announced he signed with WWE?

Obviously allowed to change mind or give the NFL a shot first.

Maybe Brock told him something like: “if you really want to give the NFL a shot, do that first, after you win the gold. Don’t do WWE first and waste that time ... pro wrestling will always be there for you”.

Oh. You’re back to using this username?
No idea on NFL. He will be playing football though.
