Wow, KSTP 1500 to go all sports, take on KFAN!!

It's a start, but it won't necessarily be positive for Gopher Football.

I'm sending them my resume!

although i used to like GL i am not sure if people on this board would swap dan b for patrick r.

If they are smart--Stanley Hubbard and Co. seem to have historically a better finger on the pulse of its listeners--they will focus more on UM and less on T-Wolves. They will find that they will have far better listener numbers and could put the kFart out of business.

It may not help, but it can't hurt. Competition is good, it keeps people on their toes. This might make KFAN give the Gophers a fair and honest coverage if they think they might lose some of their audience. Or AM 1500 might decide to try to capture the Gopher fan share of the market.
We should let AM1500 know that Gopher fans are a share of the market that is largely untapped.

I suggested they should go all sports in one of the Barerrio threads. I bet Doogie's stealing ideas from Gopherhole again!

Maybe opens the door for the Gophers to move? No Dave Lee, No Mike Max, No Steve Thompson. One can dream.

Moving Gopher sports to KSTP is, IMHO, a bad idea, mostly because you can't hear KSTP west of the metro, even after nightfall. KOA, WSM, and WBBM all come in better than KSTP does.

But the comments about burying KFAN are spot on.

I was just coming in here to post this - that would be soooooo great. A move from WCCO to KSTP can't come fast enough for Gopher Football IMO.

But wouldn't AM1500 have affiliate stations that would pick up the slack, so to speak, just like they do for Twins Baseball?

I emailed their program director, I suggest others do as well. Now if Reusse would just retire or kick it.

KSTP's new afternoon lineup is:

12-2 Reusse
2 - 4 Soochy boy and Reusse
4 - 6 Soochy
and Joe Anderson stays on at 6.

If you are expecting better more positive gopher coverage by having 4 hours of Reusse in the afternoon you are all insane

You are absolutely correct! If anything the competition will be between Daniel and Patrick to see which can out negative the other when it comes to all things Gopher football related.

GAH:eek:

What about mornings and 9-12? I would expect the 2-4 slot to be filled by another personality at some point.

4 hours of Patrick Reusse wheezing into the microphone, laughing at his own jokes, and talking about women that could be his granddaughters? No thanks.

Aren't we all looking for better informed Gopher coverage, though? I don't care if Reusse bashes Brew all day, he already does. If factual information regarding the team can make it into the broadcasts regularly, KFAN loses.

Side note - I don't pay attention to Reusse on any basis whatsoever, does he actually rip the football program or is just Brew for the most part?

Four hours of Ruesse versus ten hours of PA, Common, Danny B. and Iowa Boy?

Yeah, that's an improvement by any stretch of the imagination.

Unless of course you're just praying for the opposite.

Except that WCCO can be heard out here and KSTP can't. I don't know much about AM radio, but WCCO has to be the best place to reach fans across the entire state. This isn't Metroplitan State we're talking about, its the University of Minnesota. The whole state.

Agreed, also Joe Anderson has potential for in depth and informed Gopher discussion.
I've got to wonder if the proximity to campus can't help too. Although I wouldn't expect Brewster to in studio visit with Reusse in the building.

There really isn't a market for ripping in the Gophers. It's just that with only one outlet, they can deliver whatever "product" they feel like. If the only restaurant in town only sells cold bologna on Wonder Bread, you eat it or do without.

With two stations, the owners of the station can be put under pressure. The... "talent"... on the air may have their own axes to grind, but if the owners can be made to realize there is an audience segment in play, that's where changes happen. It won't happen overnight, but they won't be able neglect Gopher fans forever, whoever gives the fairest coverage will get our share of the market.

Rip away, but at least be an informed broadcaster. Anything would be preferable to "Dead air Dan the Coma Man".

True. If this was in the works for awhile, which one would assume, why in the world would KFAN have went into the tirade against Gopherhole on if you believe the posts, both the Common AND Barrerio shows?

If explains Chad Abbott's sudden interest in people's opinions around here, but why do it in the first place? To set yourself up as a "take no prisoners" station? Doing that by "taking on" a free specialized Gopher site just seems well, odd at best.

Whatever happens, just think of the day when there's no longer any "KFAN" threads.

Okay now cue the dipstick post:

"Yeah, but they'll be KSTP threads". :D

Star Tribune article indicates that mornings will be wall-to-wall ESPN radio: Mike & Mike early, then Colin Cowherd from 9-12.

A while back on that WB sports show, Reusse made fun of that Susan Boyle woman, pointing out how hideous she was. Ever look in the mirror, Pat? You could very easily be her brother.

Maybe someone could get Reusse back on the sauce and start cooking bacon cheeseburgers in the KSTP parking.:pig:

There are lots of stations in the Gopher Radio Network. However, getting people to listen to them who don't already listen to them is a different matter. Like it or not, the place that people are ingrained to listen to for Gopher stuff is WCCO.
