Seven Years of the Row the Boat Culture

Yeah, this is more of an easy way to make a progress report with some simple details. Obviously there's more context with everything Fleck has done as a coach but this is a good breakdown that shows he puts teams in the "right direction."

I have been pretty impressed by marketing video and print materials that they have put out since Fleck's arrival but I think this particular graphic missed the mark.

Yeah same. They've been doing great with videos and etc.

This one seems a bit off / wonky. But hey that's going to happen.

Final CFP rankings for 2014 season. Citrus Bowl.
Looks like they don't do another CFP ranking after the playoff/bowls. So were #25, then lost our bowl game, and there wasn't another ranking after that. But the graphic says it was the first time we were ranked in the CFP rankings, and we were definitely ranked for a couple weeks with Kill.

Correct.

Agreed. I'll give them the benefit of doubt, though, in that the graphic is probably intended for recruits (especially those from out of state) not fans.

I think it's bush league claiming a division championship for this year.

Why? You are not the only person to say it but I really don't understand why some are so against celebrating the fact that we were co-champions of the West. I get that the Wisconsin game was disappointing and yes they won the head to head matchup but the division is made up of more then one game. Both teams finished 7-2 in the conference and tied for the top spot in the division.

We didn't invent the title, and the conference officially recognizes us as co-champions of the West so why should we not count it?

This is the Fleckiest, PJ Fleck has ever Flecked.

I honestly thought it was a parody by someone. I couldn't believe a Big Ten University Athletic Department actually turned into a shill for a specific individual, instead of the institution/program.

Why would you include his WMU stats? Why?

I just don't get it, but they don't sell that kool-aid here.

C'mon. So say you're sitting in the living room tyring to sell a top recruit from out of state. The Gophs were strong this year but don't have a whole lot of history to brag about going back decades, way before the kid and probably even his parents were born. So there's not much of a record the Gophs can boast on their own to prove to the top recruit that the program is legitimately a contender that could also be his path to the NFL. However, the coach (Fleck) has a helluva great record combined with his prior stint to prove to the recruit that the program will be totally legit if he signs.... Thus the chart.

What about the Virginia's? How come they get a pass when the Dakota's don't?

If I remember my history correctly, West Virginia separated from Virginia during the Civil War and became part of the Union while Virginia remained in the Confederacy. I’m willing to give them a pass on that basis.

Why... not do it?

I'm pretty sure John Denver lead a revolt that resulted in West Virginia... could be wrong about that one.

Wait........39 NFL players?! Please tell me hes not counting players who got training camp invites but never played in a game.

If a player was ever on an NFL roster (no matter what kind) or received a paycheck, they will be counted. Nothing wrong with that.

It’s simple, they are selling the coaching players will get here. It’s good for recruiting. I don’t think recruits will mind knowing how good Fleck’s coaching staffs have been.

If he leaves for Notre Dame, would they something similar? UGA? USC? Auburn? Hell, BYU?

We should’ve done something similar for Wacker. We could’ve claimed 4 national titles.

I bet Wacker used his prior history in recruiting. Who wouldn't. Social media wasn't around to blow it up though.

You can’t be serious. I’m sure you’re right that Wacker used his prior accomplishments, but that’s not what’s happening here. The U is taking credit for a MAC school’s accomplishments. It’s sad.

I can't be serious? You can't be serious. If you don't think Wacker, or any other coach with prior success, didn't use that in recruiting you haven't had to sell anything ever.

It’s almost like you didn’t read my post.

So, in today's environment where recruits get their information from social media, what marketing materials would you have instead created to sell the recruits on the program? A chart that instead boasts that the Gophers tied for the BG10 West in 2019, last tied for a BG10 in 52 years ago and won a bunch of stuff before that? Would you boast about the Gophers last appearance in the 2014-15 Citrus Bowl and several other pc.com type bowls in other years? What would you do to market the program on social media? Any suggestions?

Good point. I’d expand the history and add Tim Brewster’s national title at Texas to our history. Oh wait, I recall people here making fun of him for portraying himself as a head coach with a national title victory....

If you’re a Badger fan looking at that tweet wouldn’t you laugh your ass off? How sad is it that we have to use a MAC school’s accomplishments?

It is kind of sad historically. Point is, it's not for the fans. It's for the recruits who are trying to make a decision where they want to be the next 4-5 years. Fadger fans can criticize it all they want full knowing that they might have an improving legit competitor on their western border.
