Kristian Williams Commits to Minnesota...

If the rumors are true, PJ will be on the phone with him all day rehashing out all the conversations they had to get him to the point of giving a verbal and hopefully reseal the deal!

I am a Minnesota sports fan in general. Therefore I get really nervous when hearing stuff like this. Of course a lot of this might be my imagination but it always seems that when it comes to MN sports - rumors have a way of actually getting worse when the reality becomes clear.

Agree----i.e.,

Rumor: "A group of Minnesota Athletes were rumored to be in an apartment with females playing Yahtzee"

Reality: "A group of Minnesota Athletes were in an apartment with females playing animal twister"

So the rumored team with Williams was Clemson right? Looks like they are full.

Yes, I know we are doing better in recruiting but last I heard we are 8th in the big ten. Not that great. I will wait to get really excited when we are third or fourth in recruiting and start beating most opponents.

Emotions rank over facts a lot here. A "jump" from 12th to 8th in Big 10 recruiting should increase our win total by....? Patience is preached but this program has been patient for 50 years. Longer than anyone in the Big 10. Meanwhile, in Purdue...

Meanwhile in Purdue? They are trying to figure how high a class they need to not get their ass kicked by Minnesota?

I agree and I am less worried about this. This is where PJ Fleck comes in to his own and can have an influence on future games because he is able to land these guys who are on the fence.

We will see of course but I know good/elite salesmen and they do not stop selling. Ever.

I hope not. If Williams is Elite, he will be in the front row of his classes all day with a collared shirt on! ; )

I do hope once he thinks things through he signs with the Gophers, but the reality is that he is just one player. We already have a nice class, and it is important players are committed and want to be here. Otherwise they are just a distraction.

Anyone have any ideas on why you would wait?

Holding out for another offer can be the only reason I can think of.

It's not like the U can throw more at him than we already offer.

Ryan Burns says that Williams wanted to wait until February all along, and that he didn't really take his recruitment seriously until after his high school season had wrapped.

He committed less than a week ago. Maybe he wants to slow the process down to be 100% sure he’s making best decision for his future. Feb Signing is only a few weeks away.

I'm kind of an impatient person. I'll have to do my best to wait.

Cue the fact checkers in 3, 2, 1....

That's the only reason any recruit would not sign in the early period. Simple as that ... you want to see what other options pop up at the end of the day.

And he knows that with how good he is, the Gophers simply *can't* tell him "hey bud, if you want to wait that is your decision, but there may not be a scholarship for you ...". He knows that is not the case with us here.

Personally, I think the Gophers, can, should, and will tell him exactly that.

I'll take a middle ground. If a top talent wants to sign with the Gophers in Feb.; that's fine. However, I like the class as it is, and I'm not concerned about signing somebody in Feb. My focus ow is on 2020 especially on Minnehaha Academy.

Still rings hollow. Coaches absolutely will take a few moments of their day in Feb to take some NLIs if those players can help the team.

Now to your point ... the coaches may no longer be putting in daily effort to pursue him any longer. They could say “we’ve put in what we’re going to put in, the offer is on the table. Take the time you need to think about it, but until then we’re moving on to the 2020 class, so you won’t hear from us until you make your decision”. That’s i can believe.

Agreed. Coach wants guys who want to be here. If he's having 2nd thoughts well maybe he doesn't want to be here.

I'd tell him we have a spot for you....until it's gone.

Must be nice to live in a world where everything is that simple.

It never is.

Plus, you don't just burn down bridges like that. It costs you nothing to leave it open. Who knows, maybe he comes back in Feb and says "I'd love to be a Gopher if you'll still have me". We will, and he'll help us win the Big Ten West. That's how it's done ...

Maybe you didn't read what I was responding to. Not saying they should pull his offer. But saying it may not be available is perfectly acceptable. That's not burning the bridge, that's being realistic.

Right. No one is suggesting they pull the offer, but if they have someone they like willing to sign, even if they don’t like him as much, you have to do it. Bird in hand.

I apologize, I did not understand. Now I get what you're saying.

Yes, *if* there was someone else who wanted to sign right now, yes sign that player. I don't think there is though ... I think we would've known about it already. It's seems to be an exact science at this point? Anyway, OK

If there is a possibility of missing out on other servicable options if we have to wait, yes.

There are still lots of good recruits that didn't sign today. Maybe a recruit got passed over by a "better" U and we can go after them. Lots of scenarios, it isn't simple, just like you said. Maybe we find someone even better than him? Or someone close who really wants to be here, sign them and give your attention to next year.

Phone call made to Darius this am saying as of right now you have a spot if you want it?

I bet they can't find a pen. Or, the fax machine is down.
