It's hard to look forward to this weekend's contest when we know the game is likely to be like paint drying...

Wisconsin's current tempo ranking: #341
Michigan's current tempo ranking: #348

Nothing more fun than taking the air out of the ball and waiting 25 seconds into every possession before you shoot.

I really don't like the gophers' odds of beating Wiscy this weekend if Wiscy loses this one. I think they are too disciplined to have two stinker games in a row. Of course, Beilein has been terrible against Wisconsin in his career so I am feeling confident Michigan will fold down the stretch.

Man I really don't want to face another pissed off team on Saturday, just like Michigan State after Penn State. Go Badgers. Plus we might be fighting Michigan for a spot in the tournament.

I actually think Wisconsin averages more points per game than we do. I don't think the paint drying thing has applied to Wisconsin for a while.

They do, averaging 76.3 per game, 2 more per game more than the Gophers. WI scored 42 in the 2nd half last night.

Marcus tweeted the same. Glad it turned out as it did.

Maybe it'll be the Badgers facing a pissed off team.

I would have shared this same sentiment a week ago, before we let Penn State - who tried very hard to hand us a victory - come back for the win. Now it's just - meh. Gophers are what Gophers do. Who cares what the other team's mental state is:confused: No longer relevant.

That's not really hard to do given how inept and inefficient the gopher offense can be. They shoot the ball considerably better too. Not hard for slow tempo teams to outscore an offense that currently ranks #137 in efficiency.

Wisconsin shoots it at a 48% clip- terrific. We shoot 43%. We do get to the line a lot more. The shots that concern me is all the running floaters we throw up- so many shots where are guys are not squared up to the basket. Mason and Springs both are sub 40% shooters on 2 point shots- that's bad. Better off shooting a squared up three than a wild shot in close.

Interesting observations. these running floaters look so impressive when they work, I didn't realize we were that bad with them. Might be interesting if Pitino ever shows the guys where on the floor baskets are made and not made, and discount for fouls called. And then study the same for Wisconsin shooting. Might be an eye opener for the players.

Yes - you have to believe the coaching staff has access to some moneyballish advanced analytics software in which they can input shot selection data and show these players where they are finding success. It's a dynamic game and each moment of each game is unique, but it seems like you could find a way to nominally replicate previous success with the use of some analytics (not to mention common sense).

All due respect, but the Badgers are scoring more points per game than Minnesota right now. Running up and down the court at a faster pace while not actually accomplishing anything doesn't make the basketball more appealing to the eyes.

All due respect, but if the Gophers were the team with far more recent success than the Badgers, I wouldn't feel the need to defend the Gophers when someone said something I didn't like about them on a Badger message board. Other winning teams play a faster style of basketball and are still efficient.

"How dare they be critical of my Badgers on a Gopher message board!"

Simply pointing out that uptempo doesn't automatically mean entertaining. That is all.
