Grayson Allen is a ....

The coach from Florida State even sent a tweet saying that it was a hustle play and not a cheap shot. This is a prime example of the media blowing things up. They wonder what is wrong with these athletes, but they are part of the reason. Allen can't walk on a court without the microscope on him. You don't see ESPN showing Dillion Brooks of Oregon every night, and he just kicked a player in the balls the other night. It just goes to show how much effect the media can have on someone.

I mean...he brought it on himself by tripping people in 3 separate incidents. That being said I agree with your larger point, this was probably nothing.

I am not a fan of Allen but I think this claim is over the top. I didn't see anything wrong in the video going for the ball. The other issues, yes, unacceptable. This latest deal is a non event.

This definitely feels like a case where his reputation (albeit very justified) is making it seem worse then it was. He was going for the ball and made a heck of an effort to save it. Anyone else and nobody would have thought twice about the play but given his history of being a dirty player people are looking for a reason to accuse him of doing something wrong.

It was just the Florida St coach taking the high road. That's what good coaches do. This is hardly on the media. This is all on Allen. Everything he does is going to be scrutinized and it is his own fault.

Was watching the game and didn't even notice this until attention was drawn to it after. Don't recall the broadcasters making anything of it either. Something just like that play probably happens every game. Guy is hustling for his team...he can't worry about what the media (or whoever else) thinks every time he makes a play for a loose ball. "Oh no...should I dive for it? What will they say on ESPN if I run into someone?"

Grayson Allen is a guy every fan would want on their team the 99% of the time he's not being an idiot tripping people. I watch a lot of Duke games, and sure he plays physical and probably talks some smack out on the court, but there is nothing wrong with any of that as long as he doesn't cross the line again.

It's a non-issue for me since the FSU coach (who would know better than anyone) didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

I've been watching basketball for 30+ years and I can't recall a single instance of someone at any level (elementary, HS, college, or pro) shoving somebody as they're falling out-of-bounds. The natural instinct is to find someone or something to grab or to put your hands out in front of you to brace your impact. If you can find other examples of someone shoving people as they're falling out-of-bounds, I'd love to see them.

I'll defer to the FSU assistant who coaches basketball for a living.

I completely agree. I've never seen anything like it and I've probably seen that play 100 times. The FSU coach is being very kind.

I'm sure he is being 100% honest and not just trying to make the issue go away. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Not wanting to rip a student-athlete and putting himself in the middle of the Grayson Allen mess?

Why say anything at all if that is the goal? Not like he was sitting in front of reporters answering questions.
