The Illini fell at home to Marshall 55-53. Alex Wittinger had 15 points (at least 8 points came late in the fourth quarter) and 8 rebounds. A 17-4 Illini first quarter was followed by a 23-10 Marshall second quarter.

Ohio State defeated Duquesne in St. John arena 89-69. The Buckeye scoring was evenly distributed: Mitchell with 18, Muvanga (15), Calhoun (13), Cooper (12) and Waterman (9).
 

Jim Foster's Chattanooga squad took apart Rutgers in the RAC 66-53. The Mocs host Indiana on the 17th.
 

Purdue has been getting blown out all game at Versyp's former coaching gig Maine. They have it down to 53-40 in the 4th now.

This was part of the Maine Tournament so Boilers play the Mississippi State/Villanova loser tomorrow.

I caught the second half. Purdue's press was a mere annoyance to the Black Bears. Maine outplayed the Boilers on both ends of the court. After Maine got up by 25, Purdue took advantage of an extended Black Bear scoring drought to get within 12 or 13. But Maine closed strong.

In another loss for the B1G, Charlotte defeated the Badgers 63-48. Wisconsin committed 20 turnovers and shot 23.8% from the field.
 


And another loss: Drexel defeated Penn State 83-60. The Dragons outscored the Lady Lions 24-7 in the fourth quarter. For the game Drexel shot 11-28 from behind the arc while Penn State was 3-13.
 

Like I said. I think the Gophers can hang with anybody with the exception of Maryland ( Yes, even Ohio State)
 


The B1G game of the day was the Stephanie White led Vanderbilt Commodores visiting the #23 Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana won 94-61 (IU led 50-38 at the half). Vanderbilt looked disorganized for much of the game committing way too many fouls and turnovers. Dahlman started, left the game pretty early and maybe made one more brief appearance. Marquette transfer Tia Elbert looked like a useful addition for the Hoosiers. And yes I've already seen quite enough of Tyra Buss drawing fouls.
 



Some interesting matchups coming this week as #4 South Carolina (future Gopher non-conference opponent) visits #7 Ohio State; Northwestern plays # 21 DePaul.

The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team will face other teams this season that like to shoot the 3-point shot. But none as much as St. Francis does.

The Badgers also will face teams that press and trap on defense. But none as relentlessly as St. Francis does.

So if nothing else, the Badgers got an accelerated lesson Sunday in an unprecedented 103-100 loss to the Red Flash before an announced crowd of 3,013 at the Kohl Center.

The game set a program record for combined points in a game, topping the 202 total in a 123-79 win over Bradley in 1982, and marked the first time a UW team has ever scored 100 points and lost. It also was the first time the Badgers hit the century mark since 2004 when they scored 104 against Santa Clara.


St. Francis (1-0) fired up 44 shots from 3-point range, 13 more than its average last season when the Red Flash ranked fifth nationally in 3-point attempts. Fifteen of those bombs went in, including a crucial one by Katie Reese with 1:52 remaining that put St. Francis ahead to stay 99-98.

Sophomore guard Jessica Kovatch scored 29 points to lead the Red Flash, while Reese finished with 27.

The Badgers (0-2) were led by junior Cayla McMorris, who had a career-high 31 points. Freshman Courtney Fredrickson scored 18 and redshirt senior Avyanna Young contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Young said the key for the Badgers was to not get caught up in the Red Flash’s frenetic style of play.

Egad, that's a bad loss. Saint Francis finished last year with a 262 RPI. No way should the Badgers be losing at home to that team, regardless of the coaching shift.
