Has the U expanded tailgating zones at all? Wish the U would be more proactive doing something like this.


The Vikings have agreed with representatives from two Minneapolis neighborhood associations on a plan that would expand the tailgate zone near U.S. Bank Stadium...

...The Vikings will do their best to ensure that the tailgating activity is respectful of the neighborhoods and that cleanup and restroom facilities would be provided....

No reason. There are still open tailgating spots on the U campus. Would make no sense for them to fight to open competing lots which would steal their revenue. The Vikings are because they don't have more than a few hundred spaces. Supply and demand is not a concern to the Vikings
 

You also have to remember that tailgating is illegal in Minneapolis per city ordinances. It is only legal where they say it is. That includes PRIVATE lots.
 

Anyone who went to games at the Humpty Dump after about 2007 knew this was coming.
 

Tailgated at the river flats this year and there was plenty of room. Also got there early enough and didnt have to pay the attendant.
 



The vikings make it sound like they just sort of discovered they didn't have enough tailgating space.

They bought huge chunks of property and developed over them..... whose fault is that?

This is just PR CYA. The Vikings want fans to attend their events at the new park, and outside the stadium rather than drink and eat their own food in a parking lot. This way the Vikings look like they are doing something for the tailgaters, but it really isn't creating much more tailgating space because of the development of many of the surface lots in downtown east.

Yeah similar to the Vikings announcing they were chipping in more token money for the stadium to put up TVs all over the place...... as if there weren't going to be any.

Boy, you make it sound like the Zig is a manipulative, slimy, greedy SO ... um ... never mind.
 

IF I were the U I would still operate the tailgate lots for Vikings fans at fairgroun

Fairgrounds lots are still viable for tailgating as long as the fee for parking can cover the cost of running the shuttles. People if there not taking the train will still need parking for going to the game and not everyone will ride green line or blue line. If it's a competitive price and the U can work out drop off spots near the USbank stadium, they should still try and offer those lots in St Paul to tailgate. I'm willing to bet the bus ride isn't significantly longer from those lots to the metrodome site and cost wise it would be about the same. I would be willing to bet the Stadium commission is going to allow it. If it makes sense for the U they should still offer it for Vikings games.
 

It would be nice if the U to put a parking spot over the "living laboratory" between the ski-u-ma lot and the silos. Revenue over the environment!
