Do you think we'll win enough B1G games to qualify for the NIT?

What do you think?
Do you mean 9 total wins on the season? That sounds about right.
I voted no. I don't think we'll finish 9-9 in the conference which is what we'll need to have a shot at the NIT.

Seriously, who cares if we make the NIT?
This program is in a pretty sorry state if under most circumstances a trip to the NIT is considered a good thing. It should be the rare exception with all of the local talent this area produces. If we don't make the dance next year and have to go to the NIT or worse, Rick will be out the door. Very sad that this is the results we're seeing in his 3rd year. Ugh!!A NIT appearance always depends on what kind of team you have. Do you have a senior- or veteran-laden team that had a disappointing season? Do you have a young team that has a lot of key parts returning the next season?
It's the former where I don't really care whether the Gophers play in the NIT, but the latter I would always want the Gophers to play in the NIT. That certainly would be the case this year and (gulp, possibly) next season. If it's a team with a lot of key freshmen, sophomores, and a few juniors, absolutely the NIT can be beneficial to the program. That wasn't the case with the Gophers after the 2013-14 NIT championship -- we were a major disappointment the next season -- but it can work the other way, too.

It should be a rare exception when making the NIT is considered a "good" thing. Do I expect us to be in the NIT like the teams you list, at the rates that they are, absolutely. But I believe that the expectations for the team should be much higher and obviously making the NCAA tourney should be the goal. It should be rare that we are satisfied or consider making the NIT tourney a good thing. IMOWell, what do you mean by the "rare" exception? You might be underestimating how difficult it is to get to the NCAA tournament in the substantial majority of years. Twice within the last 7 years or so, I counted the number of teams who were able to reach the tourney in 8 of the previous 10 years. On both occasions, that list was pretty small. I'm not going to take the time to do that again, but I could just point to the recent records of a number Big Ten basketball teams who have had notable periods of success: Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, and Maryland. All except Purdue have won national championships. Michigan has made the tourney in 5 of the previous 10 years; Purdue in 7 of the previous 10 years; Indiana in 6 of the previous 10 years, and Maryland in 4 of the last 10 years.

This state should expect more from their basketball team than what has been delivered recently and a trip to the NIT or another tournament is nothing to be happy with. We should always have the raw talent on our teams to expect to make, or make a strong run at, the NCAA tourney on a regular basis. Here we are talking about whether going 9-9 in the Big Ten to get to .500 will get us to the NIT. That is pretty sad. There is one situation where making the NIT is always a good thing: when your team is not good enough to be selected for the NCAA tournament. Every team wants to be good enough to make the NCAA tournament, but every year, most haven't had the type of season that gets them there. All other talk about having the "right" expectations, attitude, swagger, rhetoric, etc. is just empty nonsense. If having attitude, swagger, and rhetoric was enough to be successful, Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi would still be alive and ruling their respective countries.
