per Chip:

A young coach hired in a power conference littered with coaching sharks inherited a roster filled with marginal talent, and the result has been so-so, at best.

Respectable in Season 1, miserable in Season 2, and now comes a critical third season for Pitino in terms of establishing momentum and an identity as he puts his stamp on his program.

Strangely, this also feels like a reset season. The Gophers have so many new faces and moving parts after a roster makeover that media day resembled the first day of a new school year.

“I thought my first two years were extremely critical to move the program forward, to get everybody to understand the way that we’re going to play because I was such an unknown,” Pitino said. “I do know that this year is huge and next year will be huge and last year was huge. People aren’t patient, I’m not patient, so that’s how it works.”

Go Gophers!!

Well done by Chip

This line says it all for me:

"People can accept patience if they’re given reason to believe in the purpose."

That's what this 2015-16 Gopher season is all about. ... seeing real hope for a much brighter tomorrow.

Good to see an article. Doesn't seem like much media attention on the basketball squad. Chip is using the "reset" term also, which I think Teague coined for the coming season.

It's important to note that any program can have a reset season now and then, just because of the way rosters turn over. You like to avoid a big dropoff from one year to the next due to graduations, but you can't always avoid it. That's especially true of programs who play for a big season from a big senior class.

Moving forward, I hope our "reset" seasons come after a couple of NCAA Tourney runs, not an NIT run and a no-postseason run.

Go Gophers!!

Here, here.

That WAS the idea for last season, of course. Every program has their disappointing seasons, too.

Yep. Getting Amir is also a huge part of this.

I hope "reset" turns into "reload" in years to come!!

I am still very genuinely surprised that Pitino couldn't get more than he did out of last year's squad. He had more talent than at least half the B1G teams and often didn't seem to know how to work with it. But I generally agree with Chip's take and am willing to give him some rope for the next few years.

Headline didn't do the article justice, thought it was well written and fair. We may struggle this season but it's not going to be boring. Next year I can see us being on the right side bubble and in 2018 when most of these guys are upperclassmen and next years class has a year under their belt they can really make some noise in the big ten and make a decent run in the dance. In 2018 dare I say it they could have a home game on Friday in the BTT

"His personality comes across as sarcastic and supremely self-confident, but that’s only an issue if he’s losing. If he wins, those traits will be viewed as harmless."

Does nobody else strongly disagree with this? There's nothing wrong with him being sarcastic and "supremely" self-confident. I don't think he's any more confident than the rest of the BT coaches. I don't see why sarcasm and confidence are suddenly bad in Pitino's situation. His sarcasm is funny and shows character and is completely harmless. Pitino speaking to the media is entertaining, informative, and refreshing. Most coaches are robots to the media.

Does any writer know that Buggs is not a Pitino recruit? I really think these people pay half as much attention to the team as we do. Marcus is the only one I don't want to often yell at. Am I forgetting someone?

As long as this damn Buggs is here, Richard cannot win big. He has destroyed this program. Can hardly wait for him to graduate.

Am very confident Pitino would never use the excuse of it not being "his" team until Buggsy has graduated or out of the program. These are clearly his guys now, and he's said as much. Now, some other folks on this board may use that as an excuse for Richard if the next couple seasons don't show the progress we expect, but he won't.

Right on SS. That's where I was going. Enough about this poor kid. If it wasn't because of that RS, he would have been gone by now.

I'm not sure if this is in response to me, but if it is, it doesn't make any sense. I was in no way implying that having a single Tubby leftover would somehow be a barrier to our team's success. I was merely pointing out the fact that people who are paid to cover the team don't seem to know that he isn't a Pitino recruit.

To be fair every game Buggs has played has been for Pitino and he's built for what Pitino wants more than Tubby IMO

True. I was just pointing out one of the many issues in the article.
