What the loss means for Minnesota: Points were going to be at a premium for the Gophers' inconsistent offense Saturday, so giving up 48 points to the Cornhuskers spelled disaster. Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner was surprisingly efficient in the first half, completing 15 of 16 passes for 148 yards with a touchdown. But neither he nor the team could sustain that momentum. One has to wonder just how bad things will get from here for Minnesota, a team that once was considered a Big Ten West favorite and now is all but out of the race. Minnesota's next three league games are against ranked teams -- Michigan, top-ranked Ohio State and undefeated Iowa. Yikes.

Go Gophers!!

Can't see winning on the road against Iowa or Ohio State and Halloween will be frightful. Illinois and Wisconsin at home in cold weather may be doable, but it will take a big defensive effort to stop Stave - and to pass in what may be bad weather. 6-6 and a bowl win would be very welcome in a year with this schedule and all the injuries.

They have caught the injury bug that plagued Northwestern for two seasons.

this team has took a few steps back from what the preseason expectations were. Looking back I am happy we beat CSU and Kent State or the offseason would have been horrific. I am hoping we can keep the outstate recruits we have on board through Feb

Indeed, and if the team manages that, they might make a bowl game with an opponent they could beat after the long rest. Nothing improves the temperament of fans like winning that final postseason game.

We're looking at 1 or 2 wins the rest of the season. 3 more wins would be amazing

Two wins gets us to a minor Bowl. Team will be motivated to win, regardless of the Bowl. 7-6 record would not be bad considering.

3-5 in conference will be a huge disappointment unless the last 2nwins are against iowa and wi

7-6 is only one game worse than the last two years.

Is that good or bad?

Winning the biggest rivalry game against Wisconsin is much more important.

Let's take em one game at a time. Who knows what can happen week to week. Surprises and upsets
always occur. Things have changed since preseason, and with all the injuries, if we can get to 6-6 and
a minor bowl, I'd say they've done well.

Exactly. I seem to remember two terrible, undermanned Gophers teams beating Iowa at home in November. One of those teams also destroyed a 7 win Illinois team.

For the record, I'm super frustrated too. I was so confident coming into the year I bet $100 on the over of 6 wins. It's college football...you never know. Let's get healthy, hope the team plays hard all year, and see what happens.

Two more wins would be somewhat amazing.

Beating IL at home would not be amazing.
Beating WI at home would not be amazing.

Winning @ tOSU is really the only game left that I would say qualifies as an "amazing" win.

A complaint about injuries? Really? Every single team in every sport deals with injuries. This is why you create depth on the roster. The Gophers still not there with yet another disappointing loss.
