Both lightly recruited RB's who made it clear in practice that they were ready as Freshman. Both mentally and especially physically ready to play and excel as Freshman. Very fun to watch.

SB27 looks awesome. I love how nasty he runs. Not quite ready to put an "=" with MBIII quite yet tho

Fair. I was comparing them as Freshman. Give Brooks a few years in a D-1 strength training program and he might be down right scary.

Hey, R Smith ain't bad either. A good OL and those two will put up some yds. We're in good shape RB wise for awhile.

We got a nice 1-2 combination right now. Thunder and lightning.

Definitely similar in the open field: However, when Barber hit the line he had that knack of falling and twisting forward for a couple of extra yards.

really?

I liked what Rodrick did when given the chance today and Berkley did very well too

All four could be punishing RB's against Purdue

Check out Leidner downfield blocking too.

Will be interesting to see how Kill splits the carries moving forward. Brooks had 17 carries for 176 yds today, albeit aided by a 70 yd TD. Smith had 13 carries for 52 yds.

If I had to guess he'll plan on a 50/50 split for next week, but may shift a few carries towards Brooks if he is running well early in the game.

Rodney was quetionalble before the game with an illness. I'm sure that had a little to do with the distribution of carries. Who knows if it plays out the same way if he's healthy. Not sure it tells us much about the future. It's all dependent on the opponent and development of the game, anyway. I don't think Jerry would ever go into a game saying Shannon gets X carries and Rodney gets Y.

loved the run and the td but that last toss into the endzone from the defender we are lucky SB27 didnt fumble the ball. What im talking about is at :13 seconds on the video

Nice hole by the Oline, great downfield blocking all the way to the endzone by Carter and Leidner.

I missed the game - had another all-day commitment. Watching the highlights later, it looks like Brooks is a physical, punishing runner like Marian the Barbarian. I love having a running team; that's real football to me. Give me yesterday's box score every week and I'll be a happy Gopher!

I can't get enough of this.

The sideline went crazy after he slammed the defender to the ground.

He could be a legitimate Heisman candidate in the next couple years.

After last week we were the worst team in the Big Ten. Now after one good game, our true freshman running back is a future Heisman candidate and early entrant to the NFL Draft. I need to be added to the injury list for the concussion I've given myself, shaking my head at the ridiculousness of this board.

Apparently you didn't know that season long impact can be seen from only a single series or two. I saw DC11 written off on this board after his game at jNW. ML7 sucked after KSU, was awesome after Ohio, then sucked again after jNW. It is a bit frustrating and really the worst part of this board.

Hey now, it's what have you done for me lately, right? :)

Shannon Brooks is fun to watch, he runs with a real purpose. It also appears that he has patience to wait for the holes to open up. Once he gets through the hole, he punishes defenders.

It was still Purdue that got trucked Saturday. We'll see what happens against stronger teams going forward.

Yeah that was a great effort by Leidner. As soon as he saw Brooks break open Leidner started sprinting downfield looking for someone.

Through 3 games he clearly has talent. He's had as many long runs as Cobb had in 2 years it seems. He doesn't have great speed but his lateral quickness and power are creating long runs. With a year in the weight room I think he maybe gains another step and improves his long speed a bit but who knows. It will take a few more games to see the other aspects of his game like patience, vision, blocking, etc. I still think Smith is an excellent back who needs maybe 5 more pounds of muscle to really become e great back (he's had a few TD saving tackles made against him by guys simply slapping his thigh as he didn't quite have the strength to run through it).

Come on now, the worst part of the board is the player name/number abbreviations.

This board really needs professional help. Before the Purdue game some people were saying we would be lucky to win another game this year. Then after the convincing win against Purdue a string was posted asking when would be going to the Rose Bowl. My personal opinion is that this blog has been affected with a virus named bi-polar. Talk about manic-depressive people.
