Close circuit to the student section: Someone needs to have an I. Dahlman "minutes played monitor" sign at the game. Cross off the zero and add another zero as the game goes on.

I guess

he thought he was a little --above--the gophers.

What's the point of picking on a 20 year old kid to try and make him feel bad? I would hope those on this forum are mature enough to have moved on. Did he make a mistake? Depends on your point of view. I'm guessing since he hasn't transferred, he's probably having a good experience there. Tough to hold that against him.

CP Gopher are you serious? What's the point on trying to make a kid feel bad? It's not as if the old timers sitting at center court are going to bring signs, but you better believe that when Colton Iverson goes to Wisconsin or the Izzone he'll be ripped on. I don't think he'll feel bad or feel like he's being "picked on" it's big time college sports for gosh sakes. If we want all kids to feel good then they shouldn't play sports beyond T-ball when every kid gets an at-bat and a ribbon for playing. This is the Big Ten for cripes sakes, 20 year old kids in the student section are going to pick on 20 year olds on the opposing team. They aren't going to rip on them for a parent with cancer or a personal misfourtune, but a highly touted local kid better be "picked on" for not getting off the bench against his home state's Big Ten foe. If that is off limits then we are truly the softest fans in the nation, which I am already beginning to wonder. I happen to think that Les' original idea is a very creative one and one that gets the point across very well without "picking on him" or "making him feel bad" and it sure beats a "Dahlman sucks" chant which would achieve the same result, but Les' idea is more Minnesota Nice.

If you think that Dahlman would have his feelings hurt and would feel picked on by that sign, then you really outta attend a sporting event played by kids older than 7.

Welcome to the Big Ten. Count me as disappointed in the student section if we DON'T get on Dahlman.

Whats the point of picking on a kid who won't see the court, and wouldn't as a gopher either? Now if it was a thanks for saving us a scholarship sign...

I am with CP Gopher on this....

you people need to get a life!! Geez, the kid made a decision to go do what he thought was best for him and you want to rub it in his face that he isn't playing much?? You all might want to move out of your parent's basements and meet some girls and just GET A LIFE!! We would have loved to have had him here but he chose to go elsewhere...MOVE ON!!!

It's time for Gopher fans to understand that we are not to pick on 20 year olds and we shouldn't hurt their feelings, therefore, we should only do the following chant to the opposing team "We've got the spirit, yes we do, we've got the spirit, how 'bout you?" Repeat this after their fans do it back to us and we can do this back and forth a few times. This will fire up the crowd, it won't hurt anyone's feelings and we can all feel good about ourselves.

Can you imagine how bad Saul Smith got his feelings hurt when he was mercifully ripped for his hair and for being Tubby's son at other SEC schools? It was brutal. I bet the UK fans retaliated with the "we've got the spirit" cheer. I can't wait to hear the Duke fans not give Hansborough a hard time this year because they won't want to hurt his feelings.

You are right..

because everyone is doing it that it is okay to be a complete ARSE!! Stan...come out of mmom and dad's basement....have fun....meet some girls....cheer for your team...and try not to be a complete d-bag!! Can't you just cheer for your Gophers without having to show you are a man by ripping on a kid because he didn't come play for the Gophers? We all will know what a stud you are even if you don't rip on Dahlman!!

I sat 8 feet from Webber when he was on the bench during the Gophers win against the fab 5 and I can say without hesitation that I unmercilessly abused him for 2 hours. He finally turned around and flipped me off...it was beautiful.

I state for the record that if I was in the student section, or anywhere in the barn, I would not hesitate to let the opposing team and players have everything I have...if I could talk the next day, I didn't do my job as a fan.

That is what makes it a home court advantage and I am not planning on giving that advantage away like CP and yellow streak...I mean Golden Shower will.

Golden Shower: Why do you keep mentioning something about getting out of a parent's basement and meeting girls? What does that have to do with anything? If you can't heckle an opposing team as a member of a student section, what do you got? You get a bunch of "Let's go Gophers" chants and the occasional "Defense" chant. Wait...defense insinuates you don't want the other team to score, which is really hurtful to their psyche. How about, "Every-body Have Fun (clap clap clap clap clap), Every-body Have Fun (clap clap clap clap clap)."

Haha nice. I agree with this. It's big time basketball. Heckling is a big part of it coming from the student section.

Actually Saul was occasionally booed at Rupp Arena by UK fans in 2000 and 2001 seasons.

I personally witnessed Eddie Fogler (South Carolina coach) berate USC students for their treatment of Saul Smith.

Home Court Advantage vs Unnecessary Taunting

Close circuit to the student section: Someone needs to have an I. Dahlman "minutes played monitor" sign at the game. Cross off the zero and add another zero as the game goes on.

If getting someone "out of his game" is the goal, I can think of a lot bigger targets to "taunt" at the MSU game. Morgan, Lucas, Suton just to name three.

Dahlmann most likely would have gone to Minnesota if the situation wasn't such a sinking ship. Give him credit for not transferring back after his first year and adding more confusion to the current scholarship situation.

Generally speaking, it's a mark of a person with low self-esteem (or a bully) to pick on the "weakest" member of a group.

JMHO

I remember some one on this board back then stating Monson and or staff didn't feel he was not Big Ten material and didn't really want to sign him. Anyone remeber?

Seriously if you think heckling a local product on the return to his home state is below the belt, then I suggest you stick to 7th grade girls basketball games. I completely agree that we should not heckle players for things out of their control, but Dahlmann CHOSE to go to MSU and with that decision comes the wrath of fans in Williams arena. Your argument about getting out of our parents' basements is ridiculous and has no relevance. Secondly, as a season ticket holder, I'm paying big money to be entertained by the players and fans alike. I look forward to MN students ripping Dahlmann without mercy.

I think I'm with drex on this one. I don't have any problem getting on players--and I certianly did my share (cleanly) as a student, but the point is to help us win. Abusing a guy who never gets off the bench won't help, and might just hurt. We've had some guys on the team who were very wel liked and appreciated by their teamates even though they got no meaningful minutes, and I think if opponents' fans had abused those guys, it would have been motivating to our players.

Verbally abusing a 20-year-old kid.........glad I'm not that frustrated with my own life.....I'm going to be at the game. Maybe I'll make it a point to let Dahlman know that he's likely to hear some crap from people with nothing better to do with their lives than heckle a college student at a basketball game.

We used to chant "Play Ho-sea (clap, clap, clapclapclap)"

How about "Where's I-saiah?"

Or even begging Izzo to "Play I-saiah!"

Either way, he thought he was too good to be a Gopher and bailed on the U and the program his grandfather coached. He sucks and sits the bench for a conference rival. Let him have it (IMO).

Really there is no point heckling someone who will never play. It really serves no purpose. I don't have a problem with moderate heckling of guys who play, especially high profile guys, but heckling the 12th man is just dumb

If we should heckle and get on some of their good players, what would be some good ones to say for Suton, Morgan, etc.?

really guys?

honestly you guy are whining about a 20 yr old that will be heckled by the student section? It's college basketball, hell it's even done in high school basketball. Last year at a Milwaukee Pius game the other team's student section started a MSU, IS TOO GOOD 4 U! chant towards Cory Lucius. If you think that heckling another team's players is too harsh for a 20 yr old, then maybe you should stick to watching 5th and 6th grade basketball.

Think about it......going to a game to heckle a kid who probably won't see the floor.......I guess if it makes you feel good about yourself.....

some of you are pathetic

Heaven forbid a kid makes a decision to not play for the Gophers because he thinks it is in his best interst. While he may not be playing at Michigan State, he made a decision that at the time he thoughts was best. Name ONE kid that was better for having played for Monson! He had no idea Tubby would be here when he made THE RIGHT decision for him!! Get offf his back!! Heckle someone that matters in the game!! Why take it out on a kid that is from Minnesota? But when you losers who will heckle him are done, go ahead and puff your chests out and tell yourselves how cool you are and how you really gave it to Dahlman!! For those of you that support me, good to know there are decent people left in this state!

Burton34= Voice of Reason

You little whiny girlymen who think it's in poor taste or "dumb" to mock Dahlmann are pathetic.

You're the reason MN is 2 out of 76 in B10 basketball/football titles since 1970.

Your justification for taunting weaker opponents falls under the category of a non-sequitur logical fallacy--your argument's reasoning (or lack there of) does not follow a logical conclusion. Your argument would, therefore, be framed as such:

Premise: Minnesota Gopher basketball and football teams have only won 2 of 76 Big Ten Titles.
Minnesota Gopher Fans don't properly "taunt" their opponents.

Conclusion: Minnesota Gopher Fans lack of proper "taunting" technique is the reason their basketball and football teams
don't have more Big Ten Titles.

But hey, who said all Gopher Fans have to be logical, intelligent human beings.

Well then heaven forbid the student section takes a few jabs at him. I guess I haven't read anywhere where they're suggesting riding him all game long, just making a poster.

I guess the student section should just give him a ribbon that says good job on it.

hey CP Gopher - please let everyone know when you decide to come down from that ivory tower

Bugger off...who needs logic when we have pompous arses like you to tell us that our enthusiasm for our sports teams defies logic. Dbag96.
