Hey guys, I am taking a social media class in school, and one of my assignments required me to cover a live story this week. I chose the Amir Coffey announcement, and I made a storify story as the structure of the narrative.

It's only a 5 minute read, thought some people might enjoy it.

The intended audience of this story is for people who do not know anything about college athletics, more specially the Gophers. I go to school in NYC so....

Then you've selected the perfect forum. :cool02:

aside from calling the B1G and the University of Minnesota "relatively" large, your article is good. Minnesota has over 60,000 enrolled and is the 19th largest college in the US. Ohio State is 17th and Maryland is 18th, so I guess the Big Ten is relatively big as well.

I knew last season was bad, but I didn't realize it was so bad that a Frenchman defected.

You have talent

and I appreciate you sharing your story. I do believe you need to do better job of spell checking and fact checking...there are multiple errors within the piece. You have some nice photos...if it is a basketball piece why lead with two football photos (or one twice?) Definite potential. Thanks.

If I am a professor, I give this paper a C+. If you are an active student who attends class every day, and I know you on a first name basis, it is a B-.

I'm having a bit of a hard time getting past "BiG10"

Thanks for writing about the Gophers. The link is now dead so most of us will not get to read it.

Guys, the kid put in a lot of effort and and wanted to share it with us. Of course it is not quite ready for a Pulitzer Prize, but it would have been nice to show a little appreciation and positive feedback.

It's also for a class, so the writer should welcome all comments...positive or negative.

link updated, but the criticism is cool (i've even made some edits based on the feedback). the whole point of the assignment was to familiarize ourselves with storify--like learn how to embed tweets and external links. the text within the story is admittedly sloppy.. but yeah i didn't share it to boast of my work or anything. it just contains an aggregate of reactions to the Coffey decision (I read pretty much every tweet about the Amir Coffey announcement), so i thought people might be interested

Yes, but let the teacher grade him. Some regular posters get all upset when they get hammered, imagine how the kid must feel when he try's to share something he is proud of writing. I am not saying we should kiss his arse, but we could cut him a little slack.

thanks sir.

this isn't like my final project or even a serious project. it was just a basic assignment to get us to learn how to search for tweets and to form a narrative using social media as opposed to copy.

if people really want to read my actual writing, i can post a link to my blog on here. not really sure a storify story is the best example of my work

Ok, I read the post... Feel free to rip away...lol

You put a lot of work in linking tweets, etc... Interesting flow, but it is filled with random editorializations for humor and not based upon facts. I know the assignment was to use social media, but remember that most social media is rumors and opinions and not actual facts.

I just clicked because I thought storify was a typo

Your Sportify was an interesting and enjoyable read and, I might add, a hell of a lot more enjoyable and interesting than ESPN sportswriter Myrone Mebcaff's article on same. Storify is pretty cool stuff and fun to learn how to use. BTW, if your writing interests tend toward fiction, follow here on a GH, a poster with the moniker: tinyarch. He is a master of that genre. Best of luck.
