The Uncle Rico GH QB Experts...

Way to provide reason...

Want some reasons? Let's talk. What would you like to discuss? Winning percentage? Passing efficiency? Rushing yards? Turnovers? He's nowhere near "the worst" in any of these categories (among others), and in fact is the best in some.

Winning percentage? Really? Hahahaha

No it's not. Leidner is that bad.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but there is much more to being a QB than passing. I think what previous posters are saying is that moving the offense (without stupid penalties and turnovers) is a major factor in evaluating a QB. Just saying "Leidner is that bad" is a subjective opinion.

If you're going to make a point, back it up with facts. Otherwise your constant whining about Leidner will be ignored faster than Wren can hit the cap lock button.

What's the main point of football? Winning the game, correct? I don't understand what's so funny.

Yep and let's put it all on the QB while completely disregarding that he's had the most talented Gophers team at his disposal in 10 years... They've underachieved if anything.

I completely agree.

He can't manage a playclock, he isn't a great runner, he throws a good deep ball once in a while, but typically is underthrown, his short game isn't that great. He looks nervous and is more aiming then just throwing. He has a bad completion percentage, a below average TD/INT ratio, etc.

I think his best assets are he doesn't really get rattled and that he can get you a first down in short yardage situations.

Who's the one putting it all on the QB? You're the one saying that it's all Leidner's fault that the team isn't winning more games.

And they've underachieved? Based on what? Looking at the talent level on the team, we should be finishing in the range of 8th-10th in the conference every year. Take a look at where the Gophers have finished in the conference the last two seasons and get back to me.

But you think we should just sit on our hands and say, "Oh well. He's trying!"

First, I imagine Rodney got open because the defense knew he couldn't catch. I haven't read anyone saying keep Mitch in the lineup as long as he tries hard. Would you rather be locked in a room with a pretty girl who won't even talk to you or an average-looking one who is fun and makes you happy?

a below average TD/INT ratio

Ha - you're really a piece of work. What other made-up stats can you cite to show how much you hate Mitch Leidner? Since I can't find a leaderboard for this "stat" (given that, again, it's made up and doesn't exist), I'm going to look at his "TD/INT ratio" (3:0) and accurately point out that, if such a stat existed (which, again, it doesn't), his "TD/INT ratio" would be undefined (since you can't divide by 0, the number of interceptions that he's thrown) and by definition he would be tied for first with whomever else has zero interceptions. Last I checked, it's pretty difficult for first in the nation to be "below average". Got any more scintillating takes, brain wizard?

In Gophers losses that Leidner has started:

8 games: 101/202 (50%) 1376, 6.8 YPA, 5TD, 7INT, 221 rushing yards, 2.25 per carry.

Why are you acting like the Gophers have had no talent? They have what, 7 nfl players now that played with Leidner? I think you're looking at rivals a bit too much.

I'll gladly admit that's one thing he's gotten better at this year. Through two games.

Who said that? Relative to their Big Ten peers, the Gophers have had below-average recruiting for several years running. The coaching staff is very good at finding underrecruited players and building their talents, putting them in positions to succeed. By definition, they are overachieving. So explain to me how they've "underachieved if anything".

(P.S. It's 5, not 7. The unfortunate part is that you need at least 46 players every season to field a two-deep, not 5 total over the course of 3 cumulative seasons.)

I completely disagree that they're overacheiving. Just because a player doesn't have offers from a big time school doesn't mean that they are bad players. They may be overlooked. I do agree that the coaching staff does a great job at maximizing their talent and put them them in positions to succeed. To me that isn't overachieving. My underachieving may have been a stretch where they are probably achieving what they should be. The point I'm trying to make is if you want to take that next step, you need a better QB.

And Gray, Hageman, Brock, Maxx, Damien, Cobb, and Thompson. I'll concede Gray and split the difference. 6.

Number of current/former NFL players who entered the league in the last 3 seasons (2013-2015):

1. Rutgers 17
T-2. Ohio St. 14
T-2. Wisconsin 14
T-4. Michigan 12
T-4. Nebraska 12
6. Penn St. 11
7. Michigan St. 9
8. Iowa 8
9. Illinois 7
10. Maryland 6
T-11. Indiana 5
T-11. Minnesota 5
13. Purdue 4
14. Northwestern 3

We are right about where I predicted we'd be on this list before I compiled it - in fact, even worse. So, please tell me more about how we've "underachieved if anything". I bet Rutgers fans, with their 28 active NFL players (compared to our 8) would love to hear more about how we've underachieved.

Cobb isn't listed because he's never played a snap. Thompson isn't and never has been on an NFL 53-man roster. So you're correct, it actually is 6.

I think this is the key point that you and the Leidner bashers are making. My response is "no sh*t." Every team, if they had a better QB, would be able to "take their own next step" and win a few more games. Of course if we had Travone Boykin or an OSU QB we could "take the next step" and win 10 games. We could also "take the next step" if we had Joey Bosa or a DE that could get pressure on an opposing QB.

And what about teams that have really good QBs but are still mediocre? I would imagine they could "take the next step" if they had better CBs, LBs, O-lineman, etc, etc.

What about the Hackenburg factor? Maybe his stock is dropping, but there is a school of thought that he's an NFL draft pick. Why isn't PSU "taking the next step?" The Leidner bashers seem to have a living room couch comprehension of the game of football, despite the fact that they thump their chests about their playing and coaching experiences to validate their views that a football team's rise and fall is dictated only by the sprial.
