Demry Croft: Burn the 'shirt?

It's a major problem that there is no alternative to Leidner. And if nothing is done this year, there will be no alternative next year. I don't think the question is whether one of the others is better than Leidner. The question is can we begin to devolop someone to be capable. Not just to replace Leidner, but to fill in if he gets hurt. This year or next year.

They need to start finding some time in the next few games to get someone else some experience. I don't know if that's Perra or Croft. (We definitely know it's not Streveler, since they're afraid to have him throw.) If it's Croft, burn the shirt.

I also don't think the coaches will make a change because they don't want to pull the redshirt.

By saying this, you've shown yourself to be the single dumbest poster on GH. Kill will pull anyone's redshirt at any time if he thinks it will help. He's shown this consistently throughout 5 years, so I assume you know absolutely jack squat about the team.

I didn't vote because I have no opinion.

If the staff thinks there is any chance he could help, they absolutely will pull the redshirt in a second. They were close to doing it yesterday.

I think Linder is still the starting QB but that Croft should be in for maybe 5 or 6 plays. Hand off to Rodney a few times and then a play action. Streveler is to good an athlete to leave on the bench bring him in as a TE or RB or LB or S anywhere just not as the I am going to run the ball now QB.

The problem is we have no idea how good the other guys look at practice. On the one hand, Leidner played an unacceptably bad first half. That bad of a showing can't happen with a quarterback at this level, ever. Then he made some good passes in the second half, but also missed some really bad ones (including the third down pass with the wide open receiver a few yards away, a pass so easy that I would have been upset at one of my drunk in laws if they overthrew me on that route in our annual Christmas football game) before finally leading on a good game-winning drive.

We definitely have a quarterback problem, but Leidner was able to get it together for a few series. It isn't a given than anyone else on the roster could do this. As bad as Leidner looked this week, he beat those other guys out at practice.

Let's burn the shirt. In fact, let's burn the shirts for every player forever.

As for wasting a year of development, what nonsense is that from a purely analytical point of view. First, let us not ask
"can" Demry Croft win. That word suggests only ability up to this point. The question is "shall" Demry Croft win. The answer to that, no matter how you evaluate it is "yes." The mindset difference between "can" and "shall" is enormous.

Think about this:

"Can we get to the moon in 1962?"
No, we could not.

"We shall go to the moon!"
Yes, we did.

Did we redshirt the moon mission because of the word "can" or did the moon mission go forward. It is the same for Demry Croft and his ability to win or lose now and go the distance in development. Red shirting a player of his caliber is like saying the Buckeyes could not win the National Championship with their third string quarterback.

You can wring your hands all day long and fret about yesterdays abilities. But, we are not talking about yesterday anymore around here. We are playing for the moon, and to the moon we shall go.

You want to send Demry to the moon?

CS14 is 4-months away from a position change. We can't just plug him in at S this year. It will happen tho.

Did you partake in some "plant science" by chance?

Very rarely does this coaching staff do anything "risky." And going with anyone other than Leidner would be considered risky. Heck... when Leidner was hurt, they had no choice but put Streveler in, but handicapped him and didn't even help him by making him comfortable. Instead, they just minimized the risks and only let him pass when it was 3rd and long.

The moment Croft gets in... it will be the same as when Streveler's debut.

If playing another QB next week makes the team better and deeper, the coaches will do it whether it's Streveler, Croft, or Perra. I really don't think the red-shirt plays a role. We just got done playing two teams that were a combined 22-4 last year. Our OL is a mess, TE's a mess, and Gentry and Jones haven't seen the field. The goal is to be playing better every week.

The OC to DC ability is the widest gulf in this program right now, Limegrover just may not have the ability or creativity to be an OC at this level. What's particularly concerning is how poor this program looks on offense when given a long period of preparation (bowl games, TCU). Against a TCU you unload the playbook, the Gophers did the opposite.

TCU had "a long period of preparation" and 10 offensive starters returning. Did they "unload the playbook"? If so, how did that work out? With a lot of our skill players seeing their first game action in the last two games, I don't think we should be unloading. We should do what we've been doing since JK and his staff arrived: coach 'em up, practice, then execute on game day.

I think he stays on offense.

Anyone else notice CS14 on the kickoff coverage team?

So we think a true freshman holding only Mac offers outside of us is answer?

Croft is raw.

That's still a question that needs to be answered. We already have the answer that Leidner gives.

This is not going to be a popular take but it is a question I have about Croft as well. If he is the kind of talent that can come in as a true freshman and start for a BIG team it sure seems like he would have gotten far more attention on the recruiting trail than he did. Not saying he won't be a good one for us but he strikes me as a guy that may need a few years to develop before he is ready to go.

Penn State was interested in Croft after he committed and probably would've offered if he showed any interest in them.

What the heck. Let's give Streveler, Croft, Rhoda, and Perra each a quarter. We already know Mitch isn't the answer and also, I guess, that the coaches don't evaluate these players during hours and hours of practice. That would help us answer this unanswered question, no?

Can we add a third option:

"I have no idea because I don't see him in practice every day, and do not attend meetings with the team"
Then you just don't vote in the poll.
Do you realize you are on a message board?

Are you really getting upset with fans for speculating on a message board?
You might be in the wrong place.

As for me, whoever the number 2 quarterback is should probably get some time to at least see what it looks like. If that is croft, burn the shirt.

Burn the shirt. Send Croft, Streveler and Perra to the moon. Shirt for the moon!

According to Burns (guess who his sources are), the coaches love the QB recruit out of MI.

If so, and if Croft is the #2 QB, and supposedly the most talented QB overall (albeit raw/inexperienced), then yes, you pull the redshirt and you play him a series or two a game.

I would love that actually. Best time to do that is the next couple of weeks. You just assume the coaches know what they are doing... truth is, some do, and most don't. If that wasn't the case, then coaches would never be fired.

These coaches have never been fired. Oops.

Isn't Croft 6'6 and 190? If so I don't see him lasting long.

6'5'' 200 lbs according to the roster. I don't think they'd run him much if they have to play him because you're right about him probably not lasting long.

Then you just don't vote in the poll.

I didn't

Do you realize you are on a message board?

Yep, I thought message boards were a place you could discuss things. My post was related to the topic at hand, not sure what the problem is. If you didn't like my post, you could have easily just ignored it.

Are you really getting upset with fans for speculating on a message board?

Nope, not sure how you got that I was upset by anything from my post. It's just my opinion that none of us have a clue if Croft is ready to contribute. That's it.

You might be in the wrong place.

Nah, I'm right where I should be. Thanks though.

I trust the coaching staff. They watch all the film and have seen all of the throw's Mitch has made in practice or a game, some of them multiple times.

I agree, he looks terrible. But that doesn't mean a true freshman, or anyone else currently on the roster, will not be worse.
