Bielema took a shot at Ohio State during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. When asked for his reaction to the league having 10 teams ranked in the latest AP Top 25 poll, Bielema had the following to say.

“It’s wonderful,” he said. “I love it. I say that with a smile, as it’s a major statement to the nation. Ohio State has one game on the schedule against a ranked team, we have eight left on the schedule. To get through this conference, it’s unprecedented. Any argument (against the strength of the SEC) is complete nonsense.”

If any SEC coach was given the opportunity to take any team in the West off of their schedule & replace them with Ohio State, I doubt there'd be any takers....

Not to go poll on you but think it's 1-5 as we lost to Missouri on New Years Day. Either way, record not good last couple years.

He's talking about the 6 bowls that will be involved in the playoffs: Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta, Cotton, and Peach Bowls.

Well ya, but would they trade their schedule for OSU's? Yes. Would they trade with the Gophers? Much better question.
 


Pretty cocky for a coach that was 2-6 last year.

I get a kick out of all the hubris coming from the SEC camps. Getting a little sensitive now that the worm has turned on the SEC a little bit.
 



Discussed ad nauseum on this board, I know, but the SEC bias is sickening. Comments like this are just dumb. Bielema and every other coach in the SEC knows damn well they don't want any part of OSU (or even a team like MN in November, like Urban Meyer said last year), but that doesn't stop the media from running wild with crap like this. "OHMIGOSH, the SEC has 10 -- TEN -- teams ranked!!" !It'll play itself out eventually like it did last year, but for these first few weeks of the season the ranking are just stupid. There should be NO rankings until midway through the season, minimum. Until that time, you're basically taking an educated (and I use that term loosely, depending on which voter we're talking about) guess as to how good a team will be. Only fans and TV networks benefit from rankings until that point...
 

A few of the 10 SEC teams currently ranked are going to end up at or below .500. How exactly is that a Top 25 team? I just hope a team outside the SEC wins the CFP. Just need to keep chipping away at the SEC bias. ESPN pimping the SEC at every chance doesn't help the matter.

Correct. They would probably try to push for a neutral site game at Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

No doubt, however if you gave them the option to swap for a Big Ten team not named Ohio State I bet you would find plenty of takers on that one. The SEC bias gets annoying but it is also undeniable that they have some very strong programs in that conference. Given the choice of playing a Big Ten Schedule or an SEC schedule I would take the BIG schedule every time.

I'm surprised none of them have complained about having to play in Missouri late in the year. Thought they would make Missouri play all their home games early in the year so no on has to travel "way up north" to play in temps below 50 degrees.

The only decent trait of this dipstick is his wife, and that only speaks to the size of his wallet and nothing else. I can't stand the way the SEC gets put on a pedestal...it's a joke much like the ranking system. What a nice convenient way to create an early excuse for his soon-to-be sub .500 team. "Well, we have to play so many ranked teams so how can we possibly win them all?" Gosh, I can just see it now and it makes me want to vomit.

Come on guys. We all know that Brett "summer's Eve" Bielema is 3x the coach Urban Meyer is.

Literally 3x his size.

But typing this, it occurred to me that Brett's Nickname is perfect for his conference as well.

Here on out, when I hear SEC I'll think. Yup. Summer's Eve Conference sure has a lot of good teams, but I don't care for that vinegary smell.

Of course he's going to say something like that. It deflects some negative attention off of his lousy record since taking over at Arkansas. There is little doubt that the SEC is a great football conference. But there is also little doubt that the SEC does not have 10 of the top 25 teams in the country. I think they was proven last bowl season when the other lowly conferences (including the B1G) put the SEC West in their place.
 

he's right. when you replace thought with sport you get SEC football. the SEC schools are very good at football, while other parts of the schools suffer.

kinda like the little fat guy in north korea running his mouth about nukes, while people starve and the lights are out
 

I hate to say it, but he is right. Looking at Arkansas' schedule, we would probably go 4-8 or 5-7. To get to 6-6 you would need to beat 2 ranked teams and not lose to any unranked teams on the schedule. When is the last time we did that?
 




Just saw it posted somewhere that Bielema was 1-5 against OSU while at Wisconsin. He should probably just shut up.
